JulesCARV 07-26-06, 01:20 PM	This question has probably already been done to death, so I'm sorry to bring it up again, but can an artificer scribe level 9 wizard/sorcerer spells (and the druid spells on the blighter list) at level 12, level 9 cleric spells at level 7? Let's say you have a wizard 5/rogue 4/virtuoso 1/sublime chord 9. The sublime chord is a 19th level character with 9th level spells: nothing special there, but what's interesting is that his caster level is only 14. Could a wizard 5/sublime chord 9 thus craft a scroll of wish or the like, as a caster-level 14 scroll? What about an Ur-Priest, with no previous spellcasting ability (or cleric levels, which are discounted), who has a caster level equal to his Ur-Priest level. He can cast level 9 cleric spells at level 9, with caster level 9 (a lot of 9s there...). If he happens to have scribe scroll, could he make 9th level divine scrolls with caster level 9? Assuming, of course, sufficient resources, a high enough Use Magic Device check, etc. A blighter can cast a limited selection of 9th level druid spells by level 9, and must be a druid 5 before entering, and druid and blighter levels stack, and can thus cast a few 9th level druid spells with caster level 14. You know my next question regarding scribe scroll, so I won't repeat it :). I'm sure you see the implication here for artificers. Since an artificer can scribe scrolls as if she had a caster level two higher than her artificer level (for everything but CL dependent effects), does that mean that an artificer can scribe scrolls of level 9 wizard/sorcerer scrolls at level 12? Level 9 cleric spells at level 7? Assuming, of course, sufficient resources, a high enough Use Magic Device check, etc. I guess unless the RAW has already handled this issue, I'd rule that artificers can only impersonate spellcasters that get spells at caster level = (spell level x 2) - 1 or higher.
Pinky's brain 07-26-06, 02:28 PM	My DM houseruled that if a spell occurs on a full casting class list I have to use the level and minimum caster level of such a class ... in theory though, if the item can exist at a lower level/caster level then the artificer can make it. Of course caster level prerequisites aren't that hard to meet anyway, there are a fair number of ways to get bonuses to caster level.
