What I have is a 20th level Duergar Psion, with his 18th level Duergar Cleric crony. Is there anyway to get it so the Cleric can change into a Choker, and gain the extra standard action, like the Psion will do?

If it matters, I have the books in my sig, plus MMIV, CPsi, and those are probably the only new ones.

Both of these NPC's are starting with teh elite erray for stats. I haven't built them yet, but if anyone has any build ideas, let me know.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

Easiest way is the Animal domain with its Shapechange domain spell.

Also, strictly speaking, the psion needs a feat (metamorphic transfer) or spends XP to gain the ability to use Quickness; it's not as simple as just Metamorphosis.

Level Adjustment: —
These vicious little predators lurk underground, grabbing whatever prey happens by. Its hands and feet have spiny pads that help the choker grip almost any surface. The creature weighs about 35 pounds.

Chokers speak Undercommon.

COMBAT
A choker likes to perch near the ceiling, often at intersections, archways, wells, or staircases, and reach down to attack its prey. A choker attacks creatures of almost any size, but prefers lone prey of its size or larger. If one is very hungry, it may attack a group, but it waits to grab the last creature in line.

Constrict (Ex): A choker deals 1d3+3 points of damage with a successful grapple check against a Large or smaller creature. Because it seizes its victim by the neck, a creature in the choker’s grasp cannot speak or cast spells with verbal components.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a choker must hit a Large or smaller opponent with a tentacle attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and can constrict. Chokers receive a +4 racial bonus on grapple checks, which is already included in the statistics block.

Quickness (Su): Although not particularly dexterous, a choker is supernaturally quick. It can take an extra standard action or move action during its turn each round.

Skills: A chokers has a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened.

also notice this:

Skin of Proteus: This psychoactive skin continually affects the wearer as the metamorphosis power. While in a form other than his natural form, the wearer does not appear to be wearing the skin.
Moderate psychometabolism; ML 7th; Craft Universal Item, metamorphosis; Price 84,000 gp; Weight 2 lb.

and notice this:

METAMORPHIC TRANSFER [PSIONIC]
You can gain a supernatural ability of a metamorphed form.

Prerequisite: Wis 13, manifester level 5th.

Benefit: Each time you change your form, such as through the metamorphosis power, you gain one of the new form’s supernatural abilities, if it has any.

You gain only three uses of the metamorphic ability per day, even if the creature into which you metamorph has a higher limit on uses (You are still subject to other restrictions on the use of the ability.) The save DC to resist a supernatural ability gained through Metamorphic Transfer (if it is an attack) is 10 + your Cha modifier + 1/2 your Hit Dice.

No matter how many times you manifest the metamorphosis power on a given day, you can gain only a total of three supernatural ability transfers per day.

Normal: You cannot use the supernatural abilities of creatures whose form you assume.

Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Each time, you can gain one additional supernatural ability.

but he needs to be a Psionic creature to take a psionic feat
Psionic feats are available only to characters and creatures with the ability to manifest powers. (In other words, they either have a power point reserve or have psi-like abilities.)
which they are
Naturally Psionic: Duergar gain 3 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class.

so your cohort wears the Skin of proteus and to CONTINUALLY have the choker form, and due to Metamorphic transfer feat...he gets its Quickness also

Carnivore, I like you. I mean, I really really like you. LOL, that is exactly what I needed. If I had my books unpacked, I probably would have found that, but only after a LOT of reading.

In addition, are there any cool combos anyone has noticed for a psion and a cleric working together? Kind of an oddball question, but who knows?

Tempest, I knew about the feat, but I couldn't look it up, so didn't mention it. Thanks, though. However, you mentioned he would have to spend pp to gain the ability? Is that the augment to it? Can' remember off the top of my head. Even so, I forgot about the animal domain. That is nice to know, thanks!!

does metamorphic transfer work for a supernatural ability with no "uses", though? It says you can only use the ability 3 times a day, so does that mean my psion and cleric could only do the Quickness 3 times a day?

Your guess is as good as ours. There's a small number of terribly worded things in the XPH -- Bestow Power, Metaconcert, the area augment of Hostile Empathic Transfer, and Metamorphic Transfer come to mind.

No one's quite sure how it works with continuous effects. Permissive DMs say "yes, but it costs you a use for as long as you're transformed". Restrictives say "no, works only with triggered abilities". Hardlines say "It costs you a use each round it's in effect."

Yet another thing we've been waiting for errata on for years...

Thanks, everyone. Any build ideas, by chance? I was planning on going straight Psion and Cleric, but perhaps a Prc or two would be good, here? They are bad guys in the campaign, but not the bbeg. I have done a pretty good job making characters of high level, but I realize that one use bad guys are a different story. Not sure about the items or feats that I should give them, as they only have to live for one encounter.
