Can Warlock Invocations be used to qualify for Dragon Disciple? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-15-05, 09:55 AM I'm trying to find a PrC with good synergy with the Warlock class. Don't have my books in front of and Search is down. Do invocations count as "ability to cast arcane spells without preperation"?

If so, Is Warlock 10/ Dragon Disciple 10 a good build? Eldritch blast won't scale unlike other PrCs that have spellcaster progression, but the addition of 7 more invocations isn't bad. Also, around the time I think eldritch blast damage starts to tank, the Breath Weapon attacks starts to pick up (i'll take the extra breats feat to make it worthwhile).

Are there any other PrCs that are worthwhile for the Warlock, or is Warlock 20 going to be the best until some more PrCs are released?

Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

03-15-05, 10:16 AM Warlocks don't cast spells. Although they have an arcane caster level, they can never qualify for an "ability to cast N level spells" requisite (as opposed to "ability to cast spell X" which can be met with an invocation that duplicates the spell).

Sentinel of Bhranni (sp?) from BoED is often tossed out as a possible full-caster PrC that provides some useful abilities for the exalted Warlock. For the most part, the only PrCs the Warlock qualifies for are less than full progression (or are Wild Mage, which is pretty useless).

03-15-05, 03:32 PM Well there is a homebrew feat called Eldritch Knowledge that Parion created. But its usefulness to you depends entirely upon your DM. Basically, this feat allows you to qualify for PrC's that have a set arcane spell level requirement. This is based upon your invocations: Least -1st lvl, Lesser - 2nd lvl, Greater - 3rd lvl, Dark - 4th lvl. The requirements are Knowledge (Arcane) 8 and Spellcraft 5.

03-15-05, 03:43 PM the white dragon spawn & 1 level of la buy off would give you the caster level at no loss. But to be honest if your DM lets you do this, there much better off just letting you qualify as a warlock.

If you really want to play a warlock dragon disciple just ask your DM, they shouldn't be against because it won't be that good IMHO (14 BaB means your poor in combat)

03-16-05, 10:51 PM Magical training lets you cast cantrips as a wiz or sorc, and can be used to qualify for the dragon disciple prc. But I think those 2 classes don't have any sort of synergy.

03-16-05, 11:02 PM the dragon disciple bonus spells are gained as if you had a high ability stat, to my knowledge you don't gain additional incantations for having a high ability score...
if you talk with your GM this shouldn't be a problem since you'll be getting more incantations with no increase in caster level.
