| Disciple_of_Juiblex07-27-07, 02:14 PM | (Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, i was debating between this and the homebrew forum) Ive created a custom pantheon for my setting and i wanted some thoughts about it, to see if im missing any gaps and ideas for the last few holy symbols. Hopefully you can get a general feel of each ogf the gods from their domaind and weapons. Basicly the entire world currently worships this entire group ( no general gods like Pelor or Racial gods like Garl Glittergold) and the pantheon itself is fairly hands on, like everyone has seen one godess atleast before they die and "A" will commonaly show up briefly before any major battle, as gods go. There is one godess for each alignment. Moreover each godess have 5 domains and has atleast 2 favored weapons. For various reasons ill abriviate the names fot those who might not be appropriate. Kudos for those who know where i got the insperation :P The Mother. Lawful Good. Domains- Community, Family, Life, Planning, Protection. Favored Weapons- Sheild Bash. Long Spear. Symbol: ??? (not sure yet). The mother is ultimatly the simbol for protection and health. Sometimes she apperes mysterously in a town to give it her blessing or at a marrige/birth. She does not generally condone violence but if there is no other option her clerics can fight with the same ferocity as a cleric of the advendger The Lover. Neutral Good. Domains- Charm, Creation, Healing, Passion, Renewal. Favored Weapons- Dagger, Shortbow. Sumbol: a pair of Lips. The lover often apperes at marriges or shown up to throw peaple of track when two love birds try to get away. Like the mother she does not condone violence. Also she grants her favor to many smiths, or other crafts persons. The Child. Chaotic Good. Domains- Fate, Good, Mind, Purification, Time. Favored weapons- Club, Sling. Symbol ??? (not sure yet). The child is not only seen as the most "innocent" form but it is tempered with the gift of divination. however despite this whe child has the closes link with children and from time to time there are reports of kids playing with a stange child. many of the Clerics of the child are either very young or very old. The Queen. Lawful Neutral. Domains- Greed, Inqusition, Law, Nobility, Wealth. Favored weapons- Light mace, Heavy mace, Warhammer. Symbol: A coin on a document. The queen is generally seen as a good deity however she is rather strict about the law, and when lots of money is involved peaple pray to her. She often will manifest at castles and royal gatherings or in the persuit of criminals. The Advendger. Chaotic Neutral . Domains- Courage, Glory, Retribution, War, Wrath. Favored weapons- Sortsword, Longsword, Greatsword. Symbol A sword on fire. Kind of a typical war deity. Se loves combat, but generally not just for combat sake. she apperes to those who have sworn vengence, on battlefeilds, and at compititons of phisical strength and stamina. The Crone. Lawful Evil. Domains- Domination, Knowledge, Magic, Rune, Spell. Favored weapons: Light pick, Heavy pick, Quarterstaff. Symbol An eye with a rune in the pupil. A Godess of arcane magic and knowlege. She is seen sometimes at libraries and places of arcane power. She is also the creater of the "warforged" (yea there are in my setting) and has many "Forged" who pray to her. The W. Evil woman 1. Neutral Evil . Domains- Celerity, Luck, Lust, Travel, Trickery. Favored weapons- Kukri, Rapier.Symbol ??? (not sure yet). Othen those on the road pray to her for save passege. She is also prayed to by "Steetwalkers" and rogues. She is perhaps one of the most tempermental and self-absorved. Despite this she is one of the most active, commany seen on the streets of major cities and traveling along the roads. While many wouldent trust her, she rarly is purly Molevelent. The B. Evil woman 2 . Chaotic Evil . Domains- Chaos, Envy, Evil, Hatred, Madness. Favored weapons- Flail, Heavy Flail, Dire Flail.Symbol ??? (not sure yet). The B is commonly worshiped bo those who hate the world and wish to bring distruction and ruin. Other practitioners are simply mad. some turn to her to simple get what they want, and end up lossing a part of themelves. She is rarly seen but many peaple can just feel her presence near by. The Dark lady. Neutral. Domains- Darkness, Death, Mentalism, Necromancer, Pact. Favored weapons- Hand ax, Throwing ax, Battle ax. Symbol: A skeletal hand. A godess of death, and things that go bump in the night. despite a somewhat bad wrap she has many clerics who travel the world puting spirits to rest. She rarly grants favor to those who havent experenced some sort of personal loss. She often apperes at graveyard, nighttime, and "unholy" places. She is often is considered outise the normal pantheon. Thoughts, Opinions, Suggestions? Edit: fixed a few typos, added names. gave some other info. |
| RealSorceror07-27-07, 03:06 PM | While I encourage homebrew material, gods in particular, you haven't really given me a lot to go on as far as holy symbols go. The symbols should have as much to do with the god(ess)'s history as it does with their portfolio. Examples of holy symbols from our homebrew gods include a burning pheonix feather, a winged skull, a helm and greataxe, and a star-shaped cog. I like the idea of having very involved deities. We do that a lot in our games too. It makes the deities more real and meaningful to the players. |
| Morka07-30-07, 11:00 AM | Are they all female deities? The Avenger makes me think about a Volcano deity I once read about (and updated myself). Like the volcano, a great destruction period usually precedes a fertile period, as the volcano ashes are usually good fertilizer. Worshippers are usually young women who must "pass their youth" in violent ways. They are usually seen as amazon-like barbarian, wandering the wilderness and attacking villages randomly. In truth, a young girl usually enter the "tribe", stays only a few years, before setting down in a village and raising children. But don't offend a former "tribewoman", as the sleeping volcano is rather easy to wake up! About the Dark lady, I suggest to precise the skeletal hand is in an appaising, horizontal position. Despite her skeletal hands, I suggest she might have a beautiful face, with long, gray hairs... About The W. Evil woman 1. For her Unholy Symbol, what about a Red Rose with sharp spines? That would illustrate her deceptive nature. About The Child. For her (his?) Holy Symbol, what about a Sun, or a Star, or a cluster of stars? I don't know why, it just sounds good... About The Lover. Instead of a pair of lips (which seems to limit "love" to its "sensual" side), I suggest two intertwinded hands. |

The back story originates basicly that when she first showed up that she was in fact a single godess, however once the older more established faith started to wain peaple found themselves worshoping diffrent aspects of her and she slit into the various godesses. The only exeption is "the dark lady" who at the same time emerge with the other personalities but is seen as seprate than the rest. its also said that no one really remembers the original godess, and she is thought to no longer exist. I do like your thoughts for the holy symbols. i think the rose fits "W" faily well, and stars has some logic to the child, ill have to work that out... |
