| awaken_D_M_golem03-23-07, 04:27 PM | Not sure where , or even If this fits in ... p.66 When the Crystal Mind, an entity as large as a moon, appeared in the sky a generation ago, the world changed. Creatures and people began to develop strange mental abilities never before seen. These mental abilities were not spells, yet could alter the world by mere will. Psionics was loosed on the world. p.67 The appearance of the Crystal Mind as described in the opening paragraph of this section is one such titanic shift. By its mere presence, the Crystal Mind sets up psionic resonances tha in turn loose psionic ability into the world. Now, it isn't clear to me how the gods fit in with this. They might have had psionics themselves, but were unable to get their followers to use psionics. Or even the gods didn't have psionics before the CM showed up. Kinds affects the Mind Flayers and Aboleths a bit, either way. What do you think ?! |
| Ordbyrht03-23-07, 05:18 PM | Not sure where , or even If this fits in ... It doesn't fit into Rip's lower planar timeline. It's just an example Cordell gave describing how a DM could establish a campaign-based reason for placing psionics into his on-going, or newly developed, campaign world. |

Or even the gods didn't have psionics before the CM showed up. Kinds affects the Mind Flayers and Aboleths a bit, either way. What do you think ?! It's just being presented as an option for introducing psionics into a campaign where previously there had been no psionics. It isn't being presented as a source of all psionics in the multiverse ever or as psionics only starting recently. And psionics probably predates the existance of gods (99.99999% sure on that). |
| ripvanwormer03-23-07, 08:33 PM | It sounds like an important event in the history of at least one particular world, but what world this might be is unclear. It's not Oerth, which doesn't have a new crystal moon in its sky, and which has known psionics since at least the mortal life of Zuoken over a millennium ago. None of the other official game worlds have crystal moons either. While this world might have only had psionics for a generation, other worlds have had it for much longer, and have had it without the benefit of a crystal moon. Athas has had psionics for 14,000 years. Krynn and Mystara, on the other hand, have never had psionics and may never have it, unless perhaps the crystal moon decides to visit them. I like the idea of a moon of crystal migrating across the Material Plane, seeding worlds with psionic energy as it goes. There might well be a place on one of the timelines for something like "One generation ago: an unknown world is bathed in psionic energy by a mysterious crystal moon [XPH, pages 66 and 67]." I mentioned the Apocalypse Stone on one of them, and that's an equally local event, barely worth paying attention to anywhere but the world where it happened. It's not clear if they mean a human generation or a generation of a slower-maturing species like githyanki, gem dragons, or elves. |
| awaken_D_M_golem03-24-07, 03:00 PM | And when an Arcanaloth says something predates the gods, we know that's the truth ... ;) I think the Crystal Mind goes away after the seeding, moving on to other pastures. With the entire D&D world either psionic or DM-prissily not , maybe the CM has far realm(s) -ified itself ? The CM prolly knows CloudMind power ; maybe it's color is transparent. Krynn and Mystara don't "have" psionics. Maybe nobody has trained anyone in Knowledge Psionics ? That's some nifty magic there , oh thank you. ---------------------- Total side-bar : Do you find my posts incomprehencible ? |

| ripvanwormer03-24-07, 05:53 PM | Krynn with no psionics? Maybe I misread some of the newer books... I'm not sure what the newer books say; most of my info on Dragonlance is 2e-era. They might have relaxed things since then; I know Krynn has bards and monks now, where it didn't used to. |
| awaken_D_M_golem03-31-07, 04:40 PM | Well , if Krynn now has Bards ... Psionics was slightly less of an appendix than Bards in 1st Edition. Q : Anybody know about Psionics before 1st Edition ??? That was before I got in { ... insert baby in diaper smiley ... } |

The official line is that Krynn doesn't have psionics, according to this website: http://www.dlnexus.com/fan/rules/13193.aspx |
