Ok, so as far as I know deities can't enter Sigil, however I think I may have found a backdoor that uses the following steps:

The deity summons as many loyal followers as he has divine ranks
The deity invests each with a divine rank making them proxies (the god now has 0 divine ranks).
The deity enters Sigil where he waits for a few months (so LoP's future sight can't stop him from entering Sigil once he reveals his divine status).
Using a Time Stop loop the deity calls back all his divine ranks (1 per standard action).
The Deity waits for another month (so the first time the LoP notices him he is fully powered up).
Do whatever it was that drove the Deity to wanting to access Sigil in the first place.

What do you think, a possible back door or just plain suicide?

0 rank deity is still a deity, so he still would not be allowed. He would need to lose the 0 rank also. And if he were allowed, after he gets his ranks back, he's gonna confront Her Serenity. Suicide.

I don't think when he gives his last DvR away he would be DvR 0, he simply would have no DvR's at all, 'though I agree confronting TLoP is suicide, but still, who knows what these crazy godlings are planning these days :P.

On the bolded bit... how do you figure out how long that is? There's no real information about how far she can see or even if she can, and she isn't just doing everything at random (which happens to look like a pattern)

Considering that it was, what, a couple of thousand years ago that her Serenity turn Darkwood into a pretty bauble, I think that she's pretty foresighted.

It would work, to a point.

Finder Wyvernspur successfully entered Sigil by temporarily shedding his divinity, so that part's not likely to be a problem. Vecna got in the same way.

Confronting the Lady of Pain with his divinity restored would've been a problem. Most deities, remembering what happened to Aoskar, wouldn't dare try to reassume their godhood within the city limits.

its an interesting theory to say the very least. something to consider with my gaming group. but its all about whether or not any deity would actually give up all of his divine rank, especially if he was divine rank 20 just to get in. then you have a problem. the place your going is like the black market of the multiverse. there are umptymillion people inside sidgel, im assuming your deity is epic level. so you take his level and thats the percent chance that someone will know him, even without his divine rank.

so say your 75th level. thats a 75% chance that someone will recognize you. unfortunatly this means that if news travels around cidgel like it would around a very big city, someone would recognize him and eventually it would be known that a ver important person was visiting cidgel. this would bring about the LoP's attention, and im no expert mind you, but a deity trying to sneak in isent exactly something she wants to see. so you would have to hide from the instant you entered cidgel for it to have any chance of success, but otherwise its a great plan.
i give it two thumbs for creativity, now we just need to find a god of rogues or something thats willing to share his divine rank long enough to get in and who happens to have people that he could trust with those divine ranks.

Hmph :embarrass goes to show there's no orignal thought hey.
Well atleast I feel good for figuring out a way to get one over the LoP (and its official to boot!).

As for how do you know how long to wait, well a DvR 20 Deity would probably feel safe waiting twice aslong as he can see into the future.

I still don't know what to do once said deity gets into Sigil, but atleast the first stage is taken care of.

A better way, would be to become a gm and just have the LoP trip down the stairs break her neck and die for good as the opening scene in the campaign.

The more I read of 'her', the lamer she is.

Man, you'd think Her Serenity kicked your puppy dog, or stole your lunch money in 3rd grade or something.

As for how do you know how long to wait, well a DvR 20 Deity would probably feel safe waiting twice aslong as he can see into the future.

And I'm suddenly taken by the picture of an elderly barmy huddled under a makeshift shelter in the Hive, clutching a blanket around his shoulders against the faintly acidic rain, rocking back and forth with a wild look in his eyes.

A group of tieflings wanders past and they hear him muttering to himself, "Almost time almost time almost time... cannot call them back before it's time... not yet not yet not yet..."

One of them pauses and against better judgement leans in and asks the poor old fool what he's talking about. The old barmy gets a wild gleam in his eyes and works himself into a fit. "I'm a god you know! I'm a god! When She's not watching, I'll make Her pay! You'll see! Just you wait!"

The tieflings laugh at the tramp and leave him sitting there in the rain, still muttering to himself, lost in his own delusions. A block away as they wander into the Bottle and Jug, away from the rain, one of the tiefers recalls something his grandfather told him years before about a crazy man just like the one they'd seen, a crazy old man that he'd seen, and his grandfather before him had seen. A thousand years had passed since that nameless man entered Sigil with dreams of power and glory, needing only to wait for the moment that Her Serenity no longer watched him, needing only to wait to call to his proxies to return his divinity and restore him to his deific glory.

A thousand years had passed, and so had his proxies. One by one they'd abandoned their god, taking his divinity for themselves, or delivering it to other rival gods, some even selling it like the choice sweetbreads of infants to any archfiends willing to pay for the chance to dine on the fragments of divinity. A thousand years had passed and he had nothing left but the eager hope of toppling The Lady, but oh he had to wait, he had to wait until the time was right, and then he would be the victor.

You see, not all Mazes are physical things. Not all Mazes are imposed from without.

She actually flayed my first dog. He was stretching as she passed by(looked like he was prostrating in worship) and she flayed him. My second was mazed for sniffing at the first one's corpse.

Shemeska, the way you phrased that just made me imagine Cthulhu in that position. O.o

I thought Faction War was meant to happen in the Planescape present, not thousands of years ago?

The Labyrinth Gem was destroyed in the Planescape present, but the gem itself was created (and its inhabitant imprisoned therein) untold millennia ago.

Ah, right. Am I to infer a second Darkwood, then, or is Rowan a time-traveller? I recently managed to get hold of a copy of Faction War but have not yet found time to read it.

Rowan got himself mazed in the present and found his way back out, but the Lady had boobytrapped the exit so it let him out 500ish years in the past. He'd used a wish to prolong his life, so when he got locked up as a barmy for claiming to be a factol, he got stuck in a cell enduring centuries of crazy attempts to cure his 'insanity', which resulted in him being genuinely barmy when released in the present again. The players learn this through the adventure.

When he tried to use the gem containing the soul of the ancient wizard, destroying it and the wizard's soul in the process, the Lady dumped him in a slaver's merchandise thousands of years back in the past. He remembered that he was out to get the Lady, and managed to make himself an uberwizard, then went to challenge her. He got the ritual all set up and ready to go to take over Sigil when the Lady stuck him into a gem. The same gem which he'd destroyed along with it's occupant in the present to try to take over Sigil. And at that point he remembered the whole thing... and knew he'd damned and destroyed himself. But even then he didn't know if the Lady had planned her actions or was stuck following the script of events that had to happen because they had already happened. But he had a LONG time to think about it before he would destroy himself.

You may want to put spoiler tags on that kind of thing.

I love that ending though. Hurrah for unity of rings.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of adding the spoiler tags. FIxed now.
