| G_Mancer06-17-07, 10:27 PM | i have a tribe of barbarians with Fire Heritage (and improved FH)... and i'm looking for a decent way for them to have a leader with alot of connection to the plane of fire. i was looking for substitution levels or feats or something, but other ideas are welcome. tribe contained goatfolk with ancesters of half fire elemental- protecting one of the few open portals to Fire plane. |
| Mai_ariti06-18-07, 03:44 PM | How about a substitution level that removes one use of rage per day but allows the barbarian to give his weapon the flaming special ability while he is raging. Alternately, replace the fastmovement or uncanny dodge with Fire resistance. Last, you could rule that they don't rage at all but instead draw upon the Elemental Plane of Fire. Replace the normal rage ability changes with various, more elemental, alternatives... Perhaps they can set things on fire or they can cast heat metal. On the other hand, you could just give them a heat shield, all creatures that strike them with a melee weapon take 1d6 points of damage and those who grapple them take 1d8 per round. This is less versitile but gives a strong 'fire' flavor. |
| Andyr06-18-07, 05:25 PM | IIRC there is an Elemental Warrior PrC in either Manual of the Planes or the Planar Handbook. Perhaps the leader could have levels in that, and/or be a fire genasi. |
| RavinRay06-18-07, 09:05 PM | There's also a barbarian/fire-related PrC (it has either the word "rager" or "berserker" in it) in an issue of Dragon magazine that had a lot of articles about the elements (and the ecology of the salamander as well). I'll look it over at home and describe it. There might also be fire-related options in Sandstorm or Unearthed Arcana. |
| blackjackg06-19-07, 01:43 AM | Blazing Berserker feat from Sandstorm. You gain the Fire type when raging. |
| Millenia06-19-07, 02:22 AM | Don't forget to give the barbarians fire-related items as well. Perhaps a flaming weapon, or fire-resistance armor, or a resident mage who likes to use fire spells. |
| mwbeeler06-19-07, 02:33 AM | You might try switching out their damage reduction with an equivalent ratio fire shield. |
| RavinRay06-19-07, 05:42 AM | I got the Dragon issue, it's #314. The firestorm berserker PrC is suited for barbarians, because it needs a chaotic alignment and rage. It also gives a breath weapon and fire aura at certain levels. |
| G_Mancer06-20-07, 10:20 AM | thats a pretty neat sounding class... that i'd like to play. but this family of 4 ixibians has 2-4 barbarian lvls each... so they dont have DR yet or +2 weapons. maybe i should make them a higher encounter? the party would be going into the Elem plane of Fire afterwords anyways... probably....hopefully.. |
| Upper_Krust06-20-07, 07:30 PM | Hey G_Mancer! :) What about Boiling Blood? The angrier these Barbarians get the more their blood boils, their skin could go reddish, they could steam, or even glow at epic levels, their skin becoming red hot. Maybe breathing fire would be a way to vent this...? |
| G_Mancer06-20-07, 09:17 PM | i upped the EL and had them take 1 or 2 lvls or Elem Warrior. that was a really good idea. |
