| Space_Dragon11-16-07, 02:58 PM | For a few years, I've been slowly building up a collection of short, surrealist stories set in a topsy-turvy fantasy world. I thought it would be fun to stat the gods from my stories as DnD divinities, just for the heck of it. I'm doing the good gods first, but will do the others over the next day or two. Dagon Intermediate God Titles: The True King Under the Sea, the Lord of Fish and Grain Divine Rank: 13 Portfolio: agriculture, the ocean, tradition, community Domains: Ocean, Protection, Community, Law, and Good. Alignment: Lawful good Cleric Alignments: Lawful good, neutral good, lawful neutral Favored Weapon: Shortspear Symbol: A fish The most widely worshipped god among the common folk, Dagon is an ancient deity of great wisdom and power. According to legend, Dagon was once the pet goldfish of an elder god named Toral (who no longer exists), but somehow attained sentients and evolved into a seperate divinity. He resembles a muscular, bearded man with the lower half of a fish. Worshippers of Dagon (called Phillistines) hold tradition, family values, and respect for elders in great regard. Sacrifices of grain or meat are left on wilderness alters in the fall to thank Dagon for a succesful harvest. As he is a fertility god as well as an agricultural one, clerics of Dagon frequently preside over marriages, which are expected to be consummated at the alter. Although a fairly distant god who prefers not to interfere directly with mortal affairs, Dagon has been known to speak to those with prophetic ability, granting aid to the great heros of Phillistine mythology. When not otherwise occupied, Dagon plays videogames with his nephew, Bobby. Lumas Lesser God Titles: The Truth, The Light, The Radiance, the Photonic Wavelength Divine Rank: 10 Portfolio: transhumanism, salvation, light, the sun. Domains: Sun, Glory, Chaos, Good. Alignment: Chaotic good Cleric Alignments: Chaotic good, neutral good, chaotic neutral Favored Weapon: Katana Symbol: A brightly glowing mirror A comparatively new religion, the faith of Lumas is strongly evangelical, and is thus spreading rapidly. Soon, it is likely he will gain enough worshippers to reach Intermediate God status, and became a real competitor for his friendly rival, Dagon. Lumas has no physical form, and his followers are forbidden from making images of him. He is usually imagined as a vaguely humanoid figure made from blindingly bright beams of gold and white light. Followers of the Light, as they call themselves, believe light to be sacred, and their temples are vast, airy affairs full of mirrors and skylights designed to focus the sunlight into artistic patterns. Core to their belief system is the concept that a perfect world awaits them beyond the sun, and that earthly concerns and traditions matter little. They believe that in order to reach the sun, they must convert everyone to their faith, at which point everyone will put on glass bubble helmets and go shooting off into space (these helmets are also worn during daily services). Fortunately, they are pacifistic, and only believe in peaceful conversion. The Light whispers in the ears of all who are exposed to sunlight, or so it is said, coaxing them down the true path. Bobby Demigod Titles: The Archero, He Who Brings Peace Divine Rank: 1 Portfolio: courage, valour, the destruction of evil. Domains: Good, Destruction, War. Alignment: Neutral good. Cleric Alignments: Lawful good, neutral good, chaotic good. Favored Weapon: Katar. Symbol: A skateboard. Bobby is essentially a living weapon crafted by the good deities. A single minded and terrifyingly clever and perceptive being, Bobby is the most active god on the Prime Material. It is said that whenever a great evil threatens the world, Bobby will be born in a human body to take the fight directly to the evildoers. When physically manifested, Bobby usually looks like an average teenaged boy. In his natural state, he resembles a muscular, genderless being with golden skin and fiery orange eyes. Bobby has no real religion. Although a few cultists worship him, especially during times of strife, he usually only receives occasional lip service from the worshippers of other gods. Most interesting is Bobby's manner of entering the physical world. He is born to normal, humanoid parents, and begins life with no knowledge or memories of his true nature. He is always named Bobby (a very common name), and always displays uncanny skill with the skateboard, roller blades, or other such. Bobby has several divine and telepathic powers, which get more powerful as he grows older and recovers his memories. After achieving full power in the mortal world, he destroys whatever evil he came to defeat and then returns home, to play videogames with his uncle Dagon until needed again. Dolimur Lesser God Titles: Kicker of Asses Divine Rank: 6 Portfolio: strength, rogues, justified revenge. Domains: Good, Chaos, Trickery, Luck, War. Alignment: Chaotic good. Cleric Alignments: Neutral good, chaotic good, chaotic neutral. Favored Weapon: Whip. Symbol: Eyeball. A strange and enigmatic being, Dolimur is the god of justice, revenge, and humor. Residing in a demiplane of maddening lights and vapours, Dolimur resembles a gigantic, disembodied eyeball with thousands of black, writhing tentacles branching out for miles. Dolimar speaks often to mortals who have been wronged, urging them to take matters into their own hands. He also likes practical jokes, and might mess with you for a while just for the heck of it. Dolimur has few temples and worshippers among the humanoid races, but there are many monsters and strange creatures that worship him. Of particular importance are his Strikers; mortals of various races who have pledged their lives to the service of Dolimur, and are granted enhanced strength, longevity, and magical power. When war comes around, the nation that feels victimized will fast and pray to Dolimur for justice. A whimsical being, Dolimur is difficult to predict, and has been the downfall of many a corrupt regime. |
