Anyone out there make any rules up on slowly becoming a God?
Like how many followers it takes or gaining abilities as you level or such?

It's up to the DM. However, common factors include sponsorship of a god, killing a god, or doing some fancy trick while having worshippers already.

Full rules for becoming a god are in Ascension (http://www.immortalshandbook.com/ascension.htm).

Well, someday I will write something up :P

Apart from the already mentioned stuff I would probably create a new class for it.
20 levels of outsider hit dice (Most of the gods seem to have those :) )

At abut level 10 they would gain divine rank 0 and at level 20 DR1.
(You can fill the level between with acquiring their domain spells as spell like abilities they can cast at will)

To increase rank by worshippers I would go by the rules of 3 and declare that they need 3 times more worshippers per rank, assuming 1000 as a base.

That should be some groundwork to use until you get something official or something better comes along.
(Make sure the god class has some high prerequisite to enter, or everyone would use it as a starting class)

Go on a quest in the boards and search for Mith_The_Godling, he has a Godling class where you can become a god in 20 levels. I like it. :evillaugh

The Outsider HD is very much unecessary. Mainly because it makes the gods all the same (Boccob can fight like a 60th-level fighter, and Kord can cast spells like a high-level cleric. Just use class levels.

OP, if you're the DM, then it's up to you whether or not a character should become a god. Basically, once they fufill the prerequisites, they'll become a god. There was a thread which had four interesting paths to divinity, I'll try and find it.

You can buy the "Immortal's Handbook" - which goes into some detail on this.

In my campaign setting, we have a deital challenge in place for characters who are invited by the gods to enter. Usually a character has to be 40th level (ECL) before a god will consider inviting them, and they usually don't enter the challenge itself until ECL 60. They are herded into a large temple filled with the most hideous monsters that my group, and myself, could come up with. The temple itself has thirteen levels, and potential candidates must reach the top, and destroy the temple guardian before they are granted divine spark. This is also a device of the elder gods of our world to end deific wars before they happen- I can't tell you how many times different player characters of opposing alignments have tried to kill each other during the challenge. The elder gods don't want these small, personal battles becoming god battles that threaten the cosmos. In other words, they let these squabbles take place before the participants get Bigby's Tactical Nuke. :)

Rank 0
Creatures of this rank are sometimes called quasi-deities or hero deities. Creatures that have a mortal and a deity as parents also fall into this category. These entities cannot grant spells, but are immortal and usually have one or more ability scores that are far above the norm for their species. They may have some worshipers. Ordinary mortals do not have a divine rank of 0. They lack a divine rank altogether.

Rank 1-5
These entities, called demigods, are the weakest of the deities. A demigod can grant spells and perform a few deeds that are beyond mortal limits. A demigod has anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand devoted mortal worshipers and may receive veneration or respect from many more. A demigod controls a small godly realm (usually on an Outer Plane) and has minor control over a portfolio that includes one or more aspects of mortal existence. A demigod might be very accomplished in a single skill or a group of related skills, gain combat advantages in special circumstances, or be able to bring about minor changes in reality itself related to the portfolio.

Rank 6-10
Called lesser deities, these entities grant spells and can perform more powerful deeds than demigods can. Lesser deities have anywhere from a few thousand to tens of thousands of worshipers and control larger godly realms than demigods. They also have keener senses where their portfolios are concerned.

Rank 11-15
These entities are called intermediate deities. They have hundreds of thousands of mortal worshipers and control larger godly realms than demigods or lesser deities.

Rank 16-20
Called greater deities, these entities may have millions of mortal worshipers, and they command respect even among other deities. The most powerful of greater deities rule over other deities just as mortal sovereigns rule over commoners.

Rank 21+
These entities are beyond the ken of mortals and care nothing for worshipers. They do not grant spells, do not answer prayers, and do not respond to queries. If they are known at all, it is to a handful of scholars on the Material Plane. They are called overdeities. In some pantheistic systems, the consent of an overdeity is required to become a god.25 so from what i get to get a DR1 have a level around 40 or up and have 300 to 540 people who worship you like or as a god.DR2 has 600 to 1200 worshipers, DR3 has 1201 to 1800 worshipers, DR4 has 1801 to 2400 worshipers, and DR5 has 2401 to 3000.

If you slay a god, you take his/her/it's power. Simple as that.

An emporer could have a nation of a couple million worshipping him as a god (Hell, most ancient empires did that), but that doesn't make him a true god. If anything, it'll make the gods jelous and start smiting at random.

Not really. Most emperors of such kind considered themselves a god among men, not a god among gods. Take for example Naram-Sin, king of Akkad. He portrayed himself as high above average humans, but still far below true gods.

Maybe it isn't about worshippers but some overriding emotion/idealism/arrogance on the part of the mortal. The number of worshippers is merely a testament, a side effect, to certain popular ideas and concepts. But one could still be a secret god, unknown to the people like Takhisis in the DL series.

Well it might be unneccary, but most gods in deities and demigods do have those.
And I like any hombrewed rule to be consistent with the published material.

The only way to ascend which is covered by the rules is the Dragon Ascendant PRC.
