Are LN clerics of St. Cuthbert permitted to cast spells with the [evil] descriptor? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-10-07, 11:43 PM The flavor definitely indicates no (St. Cuthbert doesn't tolerate Evil at all), but I don't know about the RAW (nor care much).

However, if Cuthbert were completely against evil, he'd be Lawful GOOD, rather than Lawful Neutral, which indicates that he's not actually completely averse to the idea, since actions dictate alignment ... meaning, he's obviously not been 100 percent good.

Maybe he got bored and kill one of his Paladins. Or maybe they wanted a LN deity that normal characters would worship.(Besides Wee Jas)

He did a few evil things and his alignment drifted. All taken care of. :)

07-11-07, 08:22 AM Given that St. Cuthbert isn't actually Good himself, I'd suggest that it may be possible, but there had better be a good reason for it. I suspect this to be like many police forces with firearms: every time you use it, you had better be prepared to provide a detailed account of when and why, and it had better be satisfactory to your superiors.

07-11-07, 12:50 PM Given that St. Cuthbert is an exception to a couple of other rules (he's LN but his clerics cannot be LE, and his LN clerics cannot choose to channel negative energy), I think it's reasonable for a DM to rule that his LN clerics cannot cast evil spells, even if the rules allow it.
