| ryryguy03-11-07, 08:27 PM | A philosophical question... for a LE Deity with the Water domain, whose followers sacrifice sentient creatures by drowning them, which would make a more pleasing sacrifice? A creature with water subtype or a creature with fire subtype? |
| Witch03-11-07, 08:32 PM | How are you drowning creatures with the water subtype? They can breathe underwater. |
| Richmud03-11-07, 08:46 PM | I imagine fire creatures would make better sacrifices particularly if they are CG So basically these: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/elementalRacialVariants.htm#fireElves |
| ryryguy03-11-07, 09:15 PM | How are you drowning creatures with the water subtype? They can breathe underwater. That's a good point... in this case I have a half-water elemental PC who can't breath underwater automatically. However, he does have a water breathing spell-like ability which would make the drowning problematic (but not impossible). Another potential sacrifice choice would be a mephling (fire or water) - though technically they don't have elemental subtypes, I'm still wondering the same thing. So there's no "right answer" here necessarily, just opinions... I'm just sort of wondering, would a "like" sacrifice be appreciated because the sacrifice in some metaphysical sense joins with the deity? Or an "unlike" sacrifice because it's bumping off an enemy? |
| Witch03-11-07, 09:18 PM | Perhaps beings with the water subtype would be considered good willing sacrifices, while those with the fire subtype unwilling? |
| Doom_Linnorm03-12-07, 04:20 AM | I'd say so, but there are plenty of water associated creatures that need to breathe.... like aquatic mammals. (Whales, Dolphins, Seals etc) You can also drown water breathing animals in "dead water" which doesn't have sufficient oxygen. (usualy due to eutrophication) |
| Witch03-12-07, 06:35 AM | I'd say so, but there are plenty of water associated creatures that need to breathe.... like aquatic mammals. (Whales, Dolphins, Seals etc) Water associated =/= water subtype. You can also drown water breathing animals in "dead water" which doesn't have sufficient oxygen. (usualy due to eutrophication) Is that purely real world, or does it have any reference in D&D? |
| Weiser_Cain03-12-07, 07:48 AM | Drown your brother or your spouse, family subtype trumps all in evil department. |
| Richmud03-12-07, 09:36 AM | Is that purely real world, or does it have any reference in D&D? I'm certain that D&D rules for airless water exist, I just can't remember where. Might be in stormwrack but I'm not certain |
| spncrbrrtt03-12-07, 11:10 AM | Drown your brother or your spouse, family subtype trumps all in evil department. especially younger siblings. ;) |

| Doom_Linnorm03-17-07, 12:39 PM | Water associated =/= water subtype. That isn't important. It is an aquatic creature and therefore associated with water. Still, I'd say that a fire creature is a more pleasing sacrefice then a water creature for a water deity. Since if you worship a water diety obtaining water or aquatic sacrefices is much easier then fire sacrefices. |
| Warforged Goblin03-17-07, 01:46 PM | I'm certain that D&D rules for airless water exist, I just can't remember where. Might be in stormwrack but I'm not certain Yes, it is most definately in Stormwrack and works like you said it does. Now, if you're looking for a good sacrafice, go for one of your god's rival's clerics. Heck, take 'em all on a "pleasure cruise" and sink it. If your water god likes sharks and/or other aqautic creatures, call some and have them feed to their fill. Appeasing your lord AND a free lunch. SCORE! |
