| Xanaphia_Undomiel09-27-07, 07:23 PM | I was just wondering. Surely gods have the power to make themselves REALLY massive and animal shaped, so if you kill it and butcher it could you take it home and sell it as food? And how much would that much meat cost? Also, in Unearthed Arcana it talks about metamagic components, ie components that are optional and give the spell a metamagic effect. So what would the heart of a god do as a material component? |
| RealSorceror09-27-07, 08:45 PM | Uh, y'know, in most cases thats gonna be cannibalism.....which is frowned upon by most people. Also, I'd think that would more or less be considered blasephemy of the worst kind by Clerics everywhere, and they'd pretty much go out of their way to put an end to your shenanigans. And lastly, some deities just don't look very appetizing. I mean, who wants to eat Vecna? I guess if you really liked beef jerky... |
| ripvanwormer09-27-07, 09:15 PM | Requiem for a God (http://www.amazon.com/Requiem-God-Monte-Cook/dp/1588461041) goes a long way in answering these questions. |
| sciborg209-28-07, 01:03 PM | i think eating god-flesh would be like eating a pound of LSD...and having almost been attacked by a friend hallucinating he was in Hell (a maze kinda like Dis actually), its not the best idea. :( |
| sevenslayer09-28-07, 02:44 PM | You know how they mention power components in the DMG? I think part of the heart of a god would be a suitable component for like 5000 xp!!! |
| Bloodsoul09-28-07, 09:41 PM | Are gods crunchy and good with catsup? |
| Zousha_Omenohu09-28-07, 11:01 PM | Probably not. If they were, Tiamat would have eaten them all by now. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash09-29-07, 12:38 AM | I was under the impression that their corpses hardened over time into a sort of astral rock. So if you love eating dirt, then I suppose they might be edible. |
| ArcTan09-29-07, 02:53 AM | Someone's read Towing Jehovah, I see. |
| ssvegeta55509-29-07, 07:43 PM | I bet it tastes like chicken. Just like everything else. :P |
| El_Machinae09-29-07, 07:51 PM | There might be a market for some type of astral algae, that can digest god-rock. Though I guess the nature of the astral plane makes it tough to geneer such an organism. Still, the concept of eating the flesh of killed gods is a pretty cool one. Lots of mythologies have god-eating myths. |

| AtomicKitKat09-30-07, 05:42 AM | I bet it tastes like chicken. Just like everything else. :P Very few things actually taste like chicken unless you slosh it about with chicken stock. Something that is far, far too common these days.:weep: |
| Fabius Maximus09-30-07, 07:59 AM | Eat them? No. Mine them? Hell, yes. |
| Triyu10-06-07, 05:18 PM | I'd go even further and say you can even eat certain living ones. :D |
| Witch10-06-07, 05:22 PM | Uh, y'know, in most cases thats gonna be cannibalism.....which is frowned upon by most people. | Rohano10-08-07, 02:52 AM | I suppose there are a few things to clear up with a DM when a god dies before you eat godmeat. Does the god explode on death? Does the god become a mass in the astral plane, home to a city of gith or whatnot? Does the god simply fall over dead? If the god just falls over dead... and you grab a knife and have a meal... Do you explode? Do you gain some kind of benefit? Do you immediately get shanked by every celestial or infernal being in a 25 mile radius for such a blasphemous act? If the god explodes or vanishes... Is there any residue leftover that you can collect and ingest? IE cosmic dust? If the god becomes an astral mass... Is it basically the same material as ectoplasm? In which case, does eating it do nothing but make you get horrible indigestion and very likely a lot of vomiting? I think I'm gonna establish in my current homebrew that anyone born a god will explode on death (and an astral mass will result) while ascended mortals will leave a corpse... IE St. Cuthbert's corpse would be an old fella in knightly regalia with his famous cudgel. Vecna would be a somewhat damaged lich. But there'd still be an explosion as their divinity is "astral mass"ized. However... if you remove a god's divinity and leave them an epic outsider character... stab them and eat them, by all means. Might then be a unique spell component or something (not 5000 xp worth of component but perhaps a bit more than a regular add-in). Now someone's going to go stab Zeus and cut themselves some Greek steak. I know it. And someone's gonna either explode or vomit blood. |
| ImpossiblitiesAreEndless10-08-07, 03:06 AM | I think some infernal beings would be laughing their heads off(sometimes literally) As they don't like celestial gods, and probably not each other much either I think they'd enjoy it. Of course any celestial one would stick you on the top of their smite list. |
| Mr_Seth10-08-07, 07:26 PM | I think we've got the seed for a new epic-level prestige class... the God-Eater. |
| Zousha_Omenohu10-09-07, 07:31 PM | Why would we want a prestige class dedicated to that? Think of the calories man! |
| Ventus_Frago10-10-07, 12:11 PM | In modern Theology the act of eating the dead bodies of your god is done every sunday, in communion. As well, it is forbidden to eat an aspect of god since it will end creation and wake the dreamer, thus all the cows in India. Real world application to your game means you can make it do what you want it to do. |

O.o; More over, communion is not the literal act of eating the body of Christ, and even if it was(as Catholics and some others believe) the body is considered living and not dead. Anyways, moving back to DnD. In my campaign the gods remain unstated, with the exception of Demigods. But if a God, kills another one an absorbs it's divine essence(as determined by each God*) it gains certain divine powers associated with the defeated God. In the Nine Truths religion Sembia, the original Chaotic Evil God of the Nature's Wrath, killed Lenidie, the original Lawful God Goddess of Nature's Bounty, and took her mask, donning it over Sembia's own to become Len-Sembia, God of Nature. The masks of the Nine Truths are their Divine essences.) |
| Zebppir10-11-07, 08:35 PM | you can eat dead gods they will taste divine;) |
