| Bluehero04-18-07, 07:54 PM | I am planning on having a major city in my next campaign be set on Carceri. The players have visited many of the other planes throughout other campaigns, but I've left the neutral evil ones alone for the most part. However, when I looked into it, I found that one of the reasons I had never really used Carceri was the lack of information on it. The only official inhabitants I can find a tarterian dragons, 3 demondands from fiend folio, and thats about it for unique inhabitants. So, I could use some more info, really any kind will do inhabitnats, history, times you've used it, etc. Anything you've got would be appreciated. |
| Shemeska the Marauder04-18-07, 08:04 PM | Yugoloths are also native to the plane, though their presence isn't remotely on the same level as on the Gray Waste and Gehenna. Mostly you'll find them on the first layer of Othrys, especially around the (as yet unfinished) Tower of Incarnate Pain. The 'loths and demodands will kill one another on sight, with even more mutual hatred for one another than the tanar'ri and baatezu. The worst fighting is always within the family so to speak (there's a shared origin for yugoloths and demodands early in the history of the lower planes). Additionally, you'll find Plaguebrushes, Vaath, and Gautiere native to the plane. Petitioners of course will be all over the place, with each layer of the plane populated by NE/CE souls who adhered to a particular type of traitorous evil during life. Edit: Next issue of Knowledge Arcana (10 I think) there might be a city in Carceri detailed. We shall see. ;) Also, I've used Carceri quite a bit in my campaigns. Lots of use of Othrys, and the Tower of Incarnate Pain there. I've also sent PCs to the Scarlet Jungle of Cathrys and an Angkor Watt style palace there, and later in the same campaign to Porphatys and Agathys (where Apomps the demodand creator/god/rogue baernaloth made an appearance). All of those locations and events in the campaign appear in my Storyhour (see link in sig). |

| PunkRockBard04-18-07, 11:20 PM | We woefully need a revised Manual of the Planes. Their Carceri section doesn't even have Demodands (weren't "core" at the time when that was important) let alone much else. The book is well written..but so much has changed in 3.5 planar settings.....revisions are needed. |
| Bluehero04-20-07, 11:15 PM | Thanks a lot for the info, it's very helpful. Does anyone else have anything? I'm still pretty curious, and I'm sure there's got to be some more info about carceri out there somewhere... |

You don't how long I've been looking for that thread! (Or too lazy to find it for myself.) I'm compiling my own private encyclopedia of Planar Data made here on the boards and that was a big part of it. Kudos man. |

I loved the picture in my Planescape book, of a scared looking fighter, his shield held over his head, in a gloomy jungle of huge, vine-enwrapped trees, some spindly long-beaked goblinoids with bristly hair pointing at him with no doubt ill-intent. Let's see, Carceri....The Gehreleths or Demodands of course, they are native and unique to this plane. The vaath of course, got to have them! Baatezu, tanar'ri (or devils and demons) and yugoloths wander through (though in Planescape, yugloths are NOT natives). Also find from time to time imps, quasits, hordlings, and larvae fairly commonly. Nightmares can be found. Vargouilles. Bloodthorns. The guatiere, a unique Planescape race, is found on the deserts of the layer of Minethys. Titans of course, that is where many of them were sent in exile. I would think the bar-lugra demons, the orangtanish ones, would be a good addition. They are said to go native as it were and form their own tribes and governemnts. The Scarlet Jungle would likely be crawling with snake types, very poisonous frogs (imagine a bullywug whose very skin was poisonous). Given that the Scarlet Jungle drips acid and is very dangerous for any but fiends to go through without considerable and hard to come by protection, many organisms would either be immnute to acid and poison or have protection (maybe slime or mucus coated?) There is a layer of the abyss, home to among other things the bullywug and yuan ti deities, which has many similiarities to the Scarlet Jungle and might be worth looking at though if you belifve it is actually more hospitable. Believe it or not I was cruising the web and came across this posting and actually jointed the Wizards Community just to reply. If you give me some time and some feedback, I will see what I can come up with. Warning though I am more of an idea man these days, as I use a 2E house rules campaign and don't use 3E or 3.5E. I have some of the books but don't play it. |
