I'm creating a dead god and I was thinking that I would have it be an over micro managing god. For this I was thinking his Domain/homeplane would be the astral plane. From there he could control planar travel to the Material plane and be close enough to the material plane that it would be no hassle to intervene in it. And thus because of this the rest of the gods teamed up to take him down flooding the astral with outsiders, gods, and demigods. They threw everything they had at him but couldn't kill him so they put him to sleep. While sleeping for around 100 so years his followers were all converted. Thus during the time he should have woke up he had lost all his power and now sits comatose on the astral plane.
Thoughts?

Okay, first, not dead - asleep.
Second, all the gods together couldn't kill this guy but they had the power to make him sleep but only for 100 years...?
Third, all the believers were converted in 100 years? I have a campaign where there is a secret evil sect that has been worshipping a queen-goddess that hasn't been around in 1000 years. It also assumes there are no long lived races.
Forth, assumes the god derives power exclusively through belief of his followers. If the god was as strong as you describe he would probably be something of a legend - still have believers but not followers.
Fifth, ALL the followers were converted in 100? How many followers did he have? How were they converted? Forcefully or passively?
Sixth, if the god gets power from his followers and there weren't many to begin with and a couple were left how would things change?

Last and most importantly, what role do you need this "dead" deity to play? Just work it that way. If its something you are making up there wouldn't be any established material to worry about, just create him as you need him and then work out the details later.

First and foremost. I just gave the abridged version of his past. As a second the 100 years to convert. Think how the gods would react if they had only 100 years to destroy this god power structure within the material plane. They would be frantically converting his followers, forceful or peacefully, while some would convert purely from the god going from a micromanaging state to a completely dormant state. Clerics and paladins prayer's go completely unanswered and become completely neglected for 100 years. If someone ignored my phone calls for a month and none of my friends could get a hold of them then I would probably think they were dead.

Not trying to be defensive just presenting a counterpoint. I do enjoy the help though. My purpose in creating him is just to give my character a purpose rather than just being nomadic. I've built the god to be more of a vengeful good perspective (St. Cuthbert doesn't cut it there). My character is trying to resurrect the old god, and I've left a lot up to the DM so if it doesn't fit with what he thinks it would take to rez a god then we'll go from there.

P.S. Sorry if that seemed like rambling I tend to do that on forum threads. I don't know why I think maybe it has something to do with my childhood and a kola on a trampoline. Crap I forgot I was cooking Ramen. I like the beef flavor. ITS DELICIOUS.
