| fair_dm04-03-07, 06:13 AM | Where can i read about how i can create/get a plane(demiplane)? If i don't remember wrong there is a spell, but can you decide every aspect of your plane? I mean like time, gravity, size etch. And can you get another to create the plane (with mind control), and then kill him and take the plane for yourself? Thanks;) |
| Sorcen_Anenooata04-03-07, 06:26 AM | Genesis (http://www.colugo.org/jmcmurra/SRD/psionicPowersGtoP.html#genesis) is what you mean I think. I know theres an arcane version but I cant seem to find it yet, It may be epic. EDIT: Here it is: Genesis Conjuration (Creation) Level: Sor/Wiz 9, Creation 9 Components: V, S, M, XP Casting Time: 1 week (8 hours/day) Range: 180 ft. (see text) Effect: A demiplane coterminous with the Ethereal Plane, centered on your location Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No The spellcaster creates a finite plane with limited access: a demiplane. Demiplanes created by this power are very small, very minor planes. A character can only cast this spell while on the Ethereal Plane. When he or she casts the spell, a local density fluctuation precipitates the creation of a demiplane. At first, the fledgling plane grows at a rate of 1 foot in radius per day to an initial maximum radius of 180 feet as it rapidly draws substance from surrounding ethereal vapors and protomatter. The spellcaster determines the environment within the demiplane when he or she first casts genesis, reflecting most any desire the spellcaster can visualize. The spellcaster determines factors such as atmosphere, water, temperature, and the general shape of the terrain. This spell cannot create life (including vegetation), nor can it create construction (such as buildings, roads, wells, dungeons, and so forth). The spellcaster must add these things in some other fashion if he or she desires. Once the basic demiplane reaches its maximum size, the spellcaster can continue to cast this spell to enlarge the demiplane, adding another 180 feet of radius to the demiplane each time. Material Component: A crystalline sphere XP Cost: 5,000 XP. |
| Khael04-03-07, 06:29 AM | On the SRD: Theres the psionic power genesis, and I think an epic spell. Both only make demiplanes though(A full plane is somewhat... by the rules the gods don't have that kind of power(I think)) And no, the time, gravity etc. are as the material plane, the size is in the spell/power (It starts out small, but grows/can be increased). |

The SRD site I favour being down at the moment, but I've now been able to check.) And add in the further limit: You cannot create any life (no plants or animals) with the spell/power, those must come after, you just get to pick stuff like sunny, rainy, plain-terrain etc. |
| Yadot04-03-07, 04:41 PM | The limit to time etc. is only for the psionic power as it explicity forbids it. The arcane version is created on the Astral and one can manipulate the time trait with it. |
| Khael04-03-07, 05:01 PM | True, psionic genesis states this about the time, but its the psionic genesis that puts the demi-plane on the astral, Arcane genesis puts it on the ethereal which I think (but may be wrong) is as material plane time. |

Psionic genesis is on the Astral, all other forms are on the Ethereal. I strongly suspect the psionic version of the spell working on the astral was a typo on the original author's part, because demiplanes had, prior to that point, been something unique to the ethereal plane, literally by their definition and the definition of the ethereal. It doesn't make sense on the face of things to have demiplanes on the astral. That said, I can wiggle my way around a mild distinction between demiplanes on the ethereal and "demiplanes" on the astral that leave them different in origin and theoretical nature but effectively the same thing in practice. Astral "demiplanes" would essentially be psionically stabilized thoughts made manifest on the astral in a similar way to how the "wind" of the astral is literally stray thoughts drifting through the void. |

It doesn't make sense on the face of things to have demiplanes on the astral. In fact, it might makes sense. The Astral Plane is related to many Psionic Powers: Astral Traveler, Astral Caravan, Astral Construct, Astral Seed. It also specifically states that you can travel there using Astral Caravan. |
| Shemeska the Marauder04-04-07, 11:15 AM | In fact, it might makes sense. Except that it goes against the very definition of what demiplanes are, where they are, and how they're formed. Psionics link to the Astral is the only thing that vaguely gives us a way out of the contradiction, but it still ends up stretching and partially redefining just what sort of "demiplane" the psionic version is creating. |
