| mtrpcic02-25-07, 03:15 AM | Is there any Deity thats favored weapon is the Katana? I want to play a Favored Soul with a katana, but I don't wanna waste a feat taking the proficiency. Any help? |
| Paragon_of_Tyr02-25-07, 03:21 AM | Eilistraee of the old Drow of the Underdark followers use a Katana/Bastard Sword as a favored weapon. Nowadays in the FRCS 3.5, it's just a plain bastard sword. Apart from that, I don't recall any deity having a Katana as a favored weapon. |
| Calmar02-25-07, 03:58 AM | Since you use bastard sword stats to represent katanas, I would say, any deity with a bastard sword could allow katanas. :) |
| The_Shaman02-26-07, 10:52 AM | True, right now katanas are equivalent to bastard swords. Besides, I find it easier to imagine Eilistraee or her bladedancers with a katana-esque sword than something as heavy as the typical bastard sword (now, Kelemvor might prefer something heftier when he goes a-smiting). On the other hand, you can use a Shaman from the OA book and go for the War domain. A war-spirit or an ancestral spirit might perfectly well wield a katana. |

Just on an aside, a katana is the same weight as a bastard sword in the game, and slightly heavier is real life. |
| Zumarai02-27-07, 04:57 AM | Hachiman? |
| lint trap02-27-07, 03:35 PM | Hachiman? Gesundheit. |
| Rogue Shadows02-27-07, 04:27 PM | WotC goes to great lengths to convince its players that a katana is simply a masterwork bastard sword, so any D&D with a bastard sword as a favored weapon also has katana as a favored weapon. |
| Melpomene02-27-07, 05:02 PM | However, as the Bastard Katana is an exotic(ish) weapon, there is by needs going to be a very small (and very cheesy) selection of dieties offering it. |
| crimsonwolf02-28-07, 08:27 PM | meh exotic wep proficiency or wepond focus feat.... both balance out lol |
| gimby02-28-07, 09:08 PM | As it stands, a katana/bastard sword is a 2 handed martial weapon. As the war domain gives you: Free Martial Weapon Proficiency with deity’s favored weapon (if necessary) and Weapon Focus with the deity’s favored weapon. Then you get MWP:Katana/Bastard sword, making this a strictly suboptimal choice. Go Kord for MWP:Greatsword instead :) |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht02-28-07, 10:06 PM | As it stands, a katana/bastard sword is a 2 handed martial weapon. Nope. One handed exotic that can be used in two hands as a martial weapon. |
| d2447866702-28-07, 10:15 PM | I believe he was saying that as it only gives martial proficiency, the greatsword would be a better choice. |
| Bob the Efreet03-01-07, 08:25 PM | Right. So you'd gain MWP: Katana/Bastard Sword, but NOT EWP. Thus you could only two-hand it. This is much better than (for example) a favoured weapon of spiked chain. In which you would get no proficiency at all from the War domain. |
