Does Pelor have a beard? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-14-07, 11:58 AM There's this one guy in my gaming group who says "By Pelor's beard!" everytime something happens, and I keep telling him that Pelor has no beard, but he ignores my comments. So, I decided to go ahead and ask here. Does Pelor have a beard?

(just for kicks) Will Obad-Hai finally ask Ehlonna to the prom? Will Heironeous and Hextor finally forgive each other and join forces in the name of neutrality? You will find out next time on, "As the Planes Spin"

Looks like he has a beard to me. Not sure of the officiality of the first picture, but the sun's rays definitely form a beard in the second.

He's a god, which means basically all his body parts are as much metaphorical as real. He could have a beard and be clean-shaven simultaneously. He could have a female aspect as valid as his male one.

But yes, in his Deities & Demigods illustration, and in his holy symbol, he has a beard.

07-14-07, 07:51 PM There was a picture of a beardless man in DRAGON's Core Beliefs: Pelor article, but I don't think this was intended to be a picture of Pelor himself. The picture in Deities and Demigods definitely has a beard.

To be honest, it makes sense for a him to be bearded. Most Pelorite sum imagery seems to include the idea of sunbeams as Pelor's hair, radiating in all directions. That includes downward, which translates into a beard.

Otherwise you (if you are the DM) can just say: "No, I shaved Pelor last week and now he has no beard. The end"

If you are not the DM, then team up with him. It is always a good idea to have a greater god... Erh.. I mean DM.. at your side.

On the other hand, there are certain things that should remain the purview of the players, and catchphrases are one of them.

If it's your character, you should be able to say "By Wee Jas' beard" if you want to. Sure, maybe Wee Jas doesn't actually have a beard, but that shouldn't limit your ability to use that catchphrase.

07-17-07, 08:59 AM Just wait until your resident arcanist (if it isn't you) is able to cast plane shift, and you'll be surprised at how easy and how difficult your quest truly is.

The gods got ****** at what was happening in the world so some of them made a new one(and transferred all the good people there, then blew up the old one) and things are a little bit different. Anyways.....

The gods got ****** at what was happening in the world so some of them made a new one(and transferred all the good people there, then blew up the old one) and things are a little bit different. Anyways.....

Oh, I see. Oh well, looks like you'll just have to do this the hard way then. More XP that way anyway!:D
