| TimelordSimone06-22-07, 05:12 PM | Okay then... Designing a pantheon/comsology for an upcoming campaign, I have decided to add another coexistant-with-the-material-plane plane. Basically there will be: The Material Plane, the Ethereal Plane, the Shadow Plane, and the Dream Plane. All are coexistant. The Dream Plane is basically a plane of the subconscious. Only one person has ever managed to travel there in physical form, and he died. (He also then became a god...) So when people dream, their subconscious mind is on this plane. When people cast Dream or Nightmare and the like, they take their conscious mind to this plane. (This idea came about, because we wanted a god of fear who dwelled in people's nightmares. He's the guy who found a way to shift his physical form to this plane.) I'd like to know what you guys thought of this idea, and see if anyone had any suggestions. Also, I need a better name for it. Thanks in advance! Timelord xx |
| Rerecros06-22-07, 05:21 PM | there is a well established plane of dreams, Dal Quor, in the eberron campaign setting. Dal Quor, the Region of Dreams When mortals dream, they psychically project their minds to Dal Quor, the plane where dreams play out. Dal Quor is ringed with dreamscapes -- small, temporary envelopes of pseudoreality where dreamers live their dreams for a short time. Within the ring, however, exists an entirely different world. Magnificent domed cities called up from the formless void of dreamstuff spread across the inside of the ring of dreamscapes, allowing the quori who live there easy access to their food supply -- the psychic energy of dreaming mortals. Beyond the cities of the quori, a roiling boil of dream-born landscapes melt, burn, grow, and dissolve without any rhyme or reason. Tales persist of a calm eye at the center of this storm, but they are most likely figments of some half-remembered dream. |

| Ordbyrht06-22-07, 11:27 PM | Timelord, have you checked out the 3.0 Manual of the Planes? It focuses on the Great Wheel/core cosmology, but it also details a few optional planes, including the Region of Dreams. Unfortunetly, my books aren't with me at the moment, so I can't give you any real detail, but it's a good start for your own Dream plane. The Region of Dreams section in the MotP draws from the AD&D Planescape book A Guide to the Ethereal Plane which includes a few more bits on the Region of Dreams and includes a little (three paragraphs worth of) information on the Demiplane of Nightmares. If you're interested, you can pick this up, in pdf format, for five bucks at DriveThruRPG.com (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/), RGPNow.com (http://www.rpgnow.com), or any similiar site. Only one person has ever managed to travel there in physical form, and he died. This idea came about, because we wanted a god of fear who dwelled in people's nightmares. He's the guy who found a way to shift his physical form to this plane. I like this a lot. |
| Gray Richardson06-23-07, 02:39 AM | Not only is there a variant Plane of Dream in the Manual of the Planes as mentioned above, in 2e, the Great Wheel cosmology included a demiplane of dream at the border of the deep ethereal if I recall. |
