I read about this briefly a while ago but don't know much about it. Anyone out there know about it or what book/s do?

There is no elemental plane of blood. Not an actual elemental plane anyway.

The term comes from two places, the first being a pair of articles on wizards.com:
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/sb/sb20030208a
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20030314a

The "elemental plane of blood" is just something chosen by some clueless mortal though, and it's entirely uncertain if the creatures that come from there are simply drawn up from some random god's domain, or a region of the Abyss for instance, or an applicable demiplane.

My feeling however is that cosmology wasn't a concern when the creatures were written up for that article. I'd peg them as coming from a demiplane, and then I'd create a nifty backstory for said demiplane. Or I'd have them coming from a region of the ethereal or inner planes touched by the Demiplane of Dread, which is where the second reference to a "blood elemental" but not any elemental plane of blood comes from.

Ravenloft had blood elementals which were water elemental corrupted by contact with the Mists, but the Ravenloft critters have no connection with the critters created in those above linked articles.

I think the wiki entry for Far Realms mentions the plane of blood...any reasoning or someone just made a ("hey") boo boo

Wiki is hit or miss. One needs only to see how many times some unregistered IP pops in and writes something along the lines of "Asmo is an overgod!!1!!" to know to take it with a grain of salt and a boulder of caution.

If the Far Realm wiki entry talks about the plane of blood, they're probably making a leap from Piscaethis the Blood Queen having 'blood' in her name, and/or one of the original web articles raising the option of 'blood elementals' coming from outside the cosmology, and thus lumping it in there.

which book is it mentioned in though? all I remember is that the book had a series of healing spells by the same character who found the blood elemental.

I don't think it was mentioned in a book.

This article would be what you're thinking of, I believe.

I seem to remember four Ravenloft elemental planes, one of which was Blood (the others were Pyre, Grave, and, err, I can't remember). Problematically, I can't remember where I found this, so it was probably on some unofficial fansite.

Planewalker.com has an article on Ravenloft's intersection with the Cardinal Elemental planes, creating the demiplanes of Blood, Grave, Pyre, and Mist. The article can be found here (http://www.planewalker.com/entry.php?intEntryID=9359). It's written by Sword_of_Geddon, with other contributors from the Wizards boards. I'm not sure if Sword still frequents these boards, but if anyone can contact him, I'm sure he can shed some light on this.

As far as I can tell, Ravenloft's Elemental planes are fan-created. To my knowledge, no Planescape book makes mention of the Demiplane of Dread interacting with the Elemental planes. Though A Guide to the Ethereal Plane mentions a possible connection between Ravenloft and the Demiplane of Nightmares (In The Inner Planes Xanxost the Slaad makes mention of possibly stumbling into Ravenloft's mists by misinterpreting the mists for naturally occurring vortices to the Quasielemental plane of Steam, but that's a different subject all together). I don't have any searchable pdfs of the Ravenloft books, so I am unsure if it was mentioned in any of them.

EDIT: It looks like Sword hasn't logged in since last January.
