I'm looking for four extraplanar deserts, for my Dry lich necromancer to build pyramid-fortresses to hide his canopic jars. The fifth jar will be with him, on the prime material plane, in his desert-mountain lair. Anyway, any ideas on where these deserts could be?

Sounds to me like you want something on the Lower Planes. I'd say your best bet is the Abyss. It has a whole bunch of lethal desert layers.

Yeah, i was thinking the Abyss, but i'd rather have them all be on different planes. This'll be, like, an epic adventure. Not epic level, epic story. There is one in Arborea (?), but i doubt they'd appreciate a pyramid-fortress full of mummies and marruspawn, with a powerful evil artifact there

Baator's layer of Stygia includes the realm of Set, which is a desert realm full of pyramids and so forth. Its layer Phlegethos is a volcanic wasteland.

Carceri's layer of Minethys is a place of stinging sand that can flay a berk alive, and mysterious buried ruins.

The Abyss, as mentioned, includes many wastelands. Yeenoghu's layer has a great deal of desert, as does Azazel's.

Pelion, in Arborea, has buried pyramids and ruins of vanished pantheons of elder gods and titans.

Muspelheim in Ysgard is another volcanic waste. Ysgard's first layer includes Marretet, the realm of the Helipolitan goddess Bast. That's a desert.

Arcadia's second layer (Buxenus) contains a desert realm (Heliopolis) where many of the gods of the Heliopolitan pantheon dwell (Ra, Horus, Osiris, Isis).

Limbo has any number of deserts, but they have a habit of transforming spontaneously into swamps, oceans, skies, snow-capped mountains, and cities of gelatinous tentacular shapes on short notice. A lich could stabilize a region into a stable desertlike plain, though.

The Gray Waste of Hades, particularly its first layer of Oinos, is a wasteland (as the term "Gray Waste" ought to make obvious).

Gehenna is certainly a wasteland on all of its layers, though it's rarely flat or sandy.

The Outlands has some desert areas, particularly near Thoth's estate.

The Beastlands have desert ecosystems, though you have to venture far from the River Oceanus to reach them.

There's also the Quasielemental Plane of Dust, which is pretty much how it sounds. It's located midway between the Plane of Earth and the Negative Energy Plane, and touches both planes.

You can of course put a desert on pretty much any plane either as the realm of a desert-affiliated deity or as the result of an ancient cataclysm drying up all the water. Desert demiplanes are also possible.

I thought the Dry Lich template was is Sandstorm. If that's true, than the first chapter of the book has a list of extraplanar deserts.

Good stuff RipVW.

There's also the spell Genesis.
Specifically, the anti- version turns any plane into a 180-feet radius area of burned out nothingness.
Maybe that's a waste ... 9th level spells can do other things.

I'm sure that the Ellemental Plane of Fire has some excellent desert.

If the lich is powerful enough, he might be able to have his own demiplane that's just one big desert. other than that, i have nothing to say that ripvanwormer didn't already say better than i could.

It does? Ah well.

I have chosen:
1) Sand desert in the prime material plane
2) Salt flats in carceri
3) Elemental plane of earth, a sandy bit
4) A desert of glass in the abyss
5) The moon

5) The moon

I always knew there was a Pyramid on the Moon! :dancin:

Hey, but what about a Frozen Desert, like the middle of Antartica? Then populate it with Xenomorphs, and you have Alien VS Predator...

It's made of adamantine  ...Or most of it is, i haven't decided yet.

And no frozen deserts, because his goal is to purge the world of water.

Hhmmm......i say try the desert layer in Carceri. Carceri is an interesting plane that isn't utilized enough.
