| celtredleg03-11-07, 08:12 PM | I just got a large bunch of slightly oversized houseflies from the local dollar store. I seem to remember some sort of fiendish fly, but either am haveing a bad research day, or a bad memory day. Anyway, anybody know where to find evil nasty flies?? They are just to nasty looking to not use somehow. |
| RavinRay03-11-07, 08:20 PM | You might want the chasme, a fly-like tanar'ri from Book of Vile Darkness and updated in Fiendish Codex I. Check out the evolution of the chasme (along with other demons), from 1e to present here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/alumni/20060626a). |
| Gray Richardson03-11-07, 08:45 PM | Aren't kocrachons also fly-like fiends? |
| RavinRay03-11-07, 09:19 PM | They seem more beetle-like to me, but I suppose they fit the bill as well. And the insect-like ice devils, and wasp-like advespas. |
| Angelflesh03-12-07, 12:07 AM | There is a Giant Horsefly in Tome of Horrors III (Sword & Sorcery) which you could add the Fiendish template to if you are looking for nothing more than fiendish fly and not an actual fiend. If it's too big, you can add the Miniature template from the Book of Templates (Goodman Games) to scale down as far as you like. Just my 2cp. |
| Zumarai03-12-07, 12:16 PM | They would definitely serve Baalzebul (Lord of Flies – little devils), formerly Baalzebub. |
| ripvanwormer03-12-07, 03:12 PM | There was a creature called a demonic sawfly in Dragon #252. That was way back in 2nd edition days, though. |
| sciborg203-12-07, 03:17 PM | Felisin stared at the fly-shrouded creature standing wordless before the squatting priest of Fener. She could see no exposed flesh, nothing of the man himself - the flies had claimed all of him and beneath them he lived in darkness where even the sun's heat could not touch him. Felisin felt something shiver in her soul as the buzzing rapidly shifted, forming words that she could understand. 'Secret… to show… now…' 'Go on then,' the one-time servant of Fener growled,'show me.' Perhaps Fener acted then, the swatting hand of a furious god—Felisin would remember the moment and think on it often—or the secret was the mocking of immortals, a joke far beyond her understanding, but at that moment the rising tide of horror within her broke free, the numbness of her soul seared away as the flies exploded outward, dispersing in all directions to reveal… no-one. --DeadHouse Gates |
| Tarascon03-12-07, 04:49 PM | In Green Ronin's The Cavalier's Handbook, there is an mount presented that is a tremendous fly (a fiendish version is included). That might be what you're thinking of. |
| celtredleg03-12-07, 08:47 PM | Thanks fpr the suggestions. Thing is, they are only about small size at DnD minis scale, so som,e of the larger suggestions wont quite do it. So I will steal the stats from some other small flying beastie and who will ever know?? |
| Singer_of_the_Song03-13-07, 01:20 AM | You could also use them for the spell that makes a jumbo-sized vermin. |
| RavinRay03-13-07, 02:27 AM | Maybe you can modify the hellwasp swarm (it's in the SRD as well). |
| celtredleg03-13-07, 10:01 AM | Yes, thats one I have looked at. I suppose in the end it doesnt matter that much. There should be some sort of fly monster, after all most of us find them disgusting. Thanks for all the thoughts. |
