| Dunamin10-17-07, 02:32 PM | I’m running a game based on the webcomic Goblins – Life Through Their Eyes (http://goblinscomic.com/), and am scouring for information on goblinoids. Could anyone provide me with or direct me to lore on goblinoid gods or history, preferably freely available online? I’ve found tidbits on Planewalker and Wikipedia, but any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dunamin |
| vorpo10-17-07, 08:11 PM | CDiv pg 124 mentions a greater god named Maglubiyet with protfolio: goblins, hobgoblins. Maybe you can do a search on that. CDiv doesn't provide much more info |

| Thanael10-18-07, 08:35 AM | The 2E accessory Monster Mythology has a lot of information on Goblinoid deities. Wikipedia has some info and more sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maglubiyet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khurgorbaeyag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bargrivyek ... Also interesting: http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/goblins.htm#deities http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20010606a If you search the Realms-L archives (http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe) for "Rinschler" and a deity's name you'll get Tom Rinschler's great Goblinoid deity writeups. |
| The Ubbergeek10-18-07, 09:35 AM | Thank you, I had a blank. :embarrass |
| ripvanwormer10-19-07, 08:32 PM | See also this thread (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=884663). |
| Dunamin10-21-07, 02:53 PM | Thanks a lot for all the input, I'll dig though and see what I can use for my game. :) If you search the Realms-L archives (http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe) for "Rinschler" and a deity's name you'll get Tom Rinschler's great Goblinoid deity writeups. I'm having a bit trouble here, could you provide me with any direct links? |

Doesn't the comic have its *own* idea of a Goblin religion and Goblin deity, though? The one the white Goblin chick is devoted to? |

I'm not heavily editing here, just having the PCs come from a goblin tribe which is predominantly True Neutral rather than the more common Neutral Evil, and houseruling goblin mechanics slightly to keep them more in line with the webcomic version. The comic still uses Maglubiyet as chief goblin god, and Duv ("the white Goblin chick") recieved her wings from him. |
| ArcTan10-22-07, 03:48 AM | Cool. It's been a long time since I've read it. The comic, from what I remember, started out far more free-and-loose with the core world of D&D (the Goblin naming conventions, Forgath being a Cleric of Herbert, etc.) until it went through the usual transition of becoming more serious and grounded and true to D&D's flavor. In a way I'm kind of disappointed (No more jokes about Herbert? No more Balors appearing out of nowhere?) but I can see why he did it. |

I'm having a bit of trouble myself locating Tom Rinschlers great articles. I know there was a thread on ENworld where someone (Filby?) listed many Rinschler links but i can't find it anymore.... Here's a better link to the list search: http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe?S1=realms-l&D=1 Search for "Khurgorbaeyag" there and go through the results. "revised goblin deities" and/or "revised bugbear deities" should work too. EDIT: Found an archive: http://www.masterao.com/articles/articles.asp?action=showsubcat&id=23 P.S.: Rip's thread is also great. |
| Dunamin10-23-07, 02:43 AM | Thanks Thanael, those Rinschler articles are great! |
