| FoxYerSox05-11-07, 05:03 PM | ok guys my char needs a god. he's a sky sailor (varient of the dred pirate and rogue) but i have no idea what god to take, it can be any god from either greyhawk, faerun, ebberon, or kirin. (long story) any help is welcome |
| Naderion05-11-07, 05:55 PM | Aerdrie Faenya is the elven godess of wind and birds and Chaotic Good. |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard05-11-07, 06:26 PM | Copied from other section.... For Forgotten Realms, go with Shaundakul. He is the god of travel, exploration, and the winds. Seems to fit well into your concept. He's CN and has the feel of the windswept traveler. |
| primemover00305-11-07, 06:56 PM | Valkur might also be a good choice as a god of sailors form FR. |
| The Ubbergeek05-11-07, 08:23 PM | There is the elemental god of Air in FR too, whom I forgot the name. :( Flarghanan (spelling?) of Greyhawk have a brother in the sky, forgot his name also. :( |
| primemover00305-12-07, 09:07 AM | There is the elemental god of Air in FR too, whom I forgot the name. :( Akadi, mistress of Winds... though she's flighty and doesn't really acknowledge her worshippers much. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash05-12-07, 09:30 AM | Fharlanghn or his sky and stars-wandring sibling Celestian would both work nicely. Both can be found in the Living Greyhawk Deities document (Under 'Campaign Documents' (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/welcome)). |
| Ouranos Harpy05-12-07, 09:01 PM | You could try the Raptoran deities from 'Races of the Wild'. -Tuilviel Glithien: The Head Honcho of the Raptoran pantheon. She has a nice nocturnal, shadowy feel to her. - Lliendil: A fickle storm deity, think a semi-benevolent Talos. Obsessed with weathern patterns, whirlwinds, thunderstorms and the like. - Talos: plenty of info on him. Just search the internet. - Stormnamus (sp?) : The Storm & Good Cloud Giant deity. |
| ElberethSilverleaf05-17-07, 01:21 AM | In the real world you have Thor- god of lightning & thunder, and my god (I'm Jewish) Yahweh- god of mountaintops, lightning and thunder, Also there is Zeus- lightning for sure, not sure what else... |
| Darth Syntax05-17-07, 01:30 AM | Zeus was pretty much your generic sky-god really. His name even comes from a compound meaning "sky-father". Ouranos (Zeus' grandfather) was also a deity of the the sky. |
| ElberethSilverleaf05-17-07, 01:34 AM | You're exactly right Darth. (duh and I once took a classical Greek history class at Uni) |
| The Ubbergeek05-17-07, 03:44 AM | The Indian-europeans have left all over eurasia, from india to the end of europe descendant cultures - and a aprt of those cultures are pantheons of gods who strangely nearly always have basic outprints - there is by example always a Sky-Father, be it Indra, Zeus/Jupiter, Teutanis (I think), Odin/Wotan, and a probable slavic relative. |
| Thanael05-17-07, 06:03 AM | As for Greyhawk: Velnius is the Oeridian God of the Sky & Weather. Osprem & Xerbo are gods of the Sea and Sailing See also: http://www.wizards.com/rpga/downloads/LG_Deities.zip |
| Orion7205-17-07, 01:22 PM | For something a bit different, how about Bahamut? He's not specifically related to the sky in source materials, but... if you consider the typical Mother Earth/Father Sky deity pattern found in various places, and apply that to the Draconic pantheon, it becomes clear that Bahamut is the Sky as Tiamat is the Earth. Since your character isn't a divine spellcaster, he shouldn't be too concerned with his patron deity's domains, and dragons are powerful symbols of 'strength in the air'. Just throwing this out as something different. |
| El_Machinae05-18-07, 07:43 AM | I recommend Odin. He's good(ly) and encourages people to travel and strive their utmost. Plus weather is certainly within his theme. |
