Rock has its own mythology... perhaps even its own cosmology. When a band takes the stage, they become deities incarnate, the audience all-too eager worshipers, giving sacrifice of cash, emotion, and... er... panties.

Anyone who has been to a Styx concert knows exactly of what I speak.

So it is without much of a stretch that I present to you the beginning of the most diverse, widespread pantheon known to the multiverse:

The Gods of Rock

~~

The Four
Jahn, Pol, Gerog, and Rynghol; Those that Came Before; The Quarrymen; The Eggmen and the Walrus
Greater Deities (Mostly Deceased), Chaotic Good

Symbol: Various, depending on the local temple
Portfolio: Music, alchemy, transcendence, innovation
Clergy Alignments: Any non-evil
Domains: Good, Chaos, Water, Community
Favored Weapon: Warhammer. Rynghol is said to still possess the great artifact Maxwell's Silver Hammer, but others claim that the weapon was hidden away under one of their temples.

The Four were the first of the Gods. They had been a quartet of miners - quarrymen - whom began to sing at their work. The song took flight, and they with it; soon they were bards, and then... something more. For many years, they brought the Song to the world, and all was good. In one story, they journeyed to the far north and fought with the gods of the giants, whom turned them into eggs and tried to devour them; Jahn then changed his form to that of a mighty walrus (the first animal he saw) and battled the giant gods to a standstill, earning their respect. Other tales involve their journey beneath the seas in a great yellow vessel, where they calmed the cruel gods of the deep with a gift of pure innocent love, and their truly awesome concert at Sullivan's Tavern. Then disaster struck. Jahn, the First, was seduced by a Daemon in mortal form; Yaog-Koa, the Corruptor. She slowly twisted his allegiance, and shattered the Four. However, it was in their death throes that the greatest of their Songs was created, and the last of them is held as among the greatest of all, and the echo of it is said to be at least partially responsible for the ascendancy of the entire pantheon.

Now there are but two of the Four that still draw breath; Jahn was slain and devoured by Yaog-Koa, and Gerog allowed his divinity to be drained, succumbing as to a dread disease. Pol, once the Second of the four, considered to many to be even greater than Jahn, has become a petty tyrant, coveting what few songs he still has rather than spreading them freely as he once did. Rynghol, by contrast, has changed little; he is still a being of joy and whimsy, and while he was always the least of the four, he is now the only one that has not declined. Still, his songs are sung, and still they are brought freely for the good of all. Rynghol is also said to be the only one that still resides on the mortal plane; after making peace with the sea-gods, he received a gift of land, Octopus' Garden, where he built a humble estate.

Lord Alice
The Keeper of Dragontown, the Bogey
Intermediate Deity, Chaotic Neutral

Symbol: Lord Alice's scarred eyes on a background of red
Portfolio: Punishment, retribution, redemption, insanity
Cleric Alignments: Chaotic Neutral only
Domains: Destruction, Fire, Madness, Death
Favored Weapon: A whip. Lord Alice himself is rarely seen without his riding crop.

The Keeper of Dragontown, Lord Alice is the scourge of the wicked and the end to all evils. Unlike other deities, his visage is always the same - an untamed hair of steel wire atop a rugged, weathered face, black scars burnt over his eyes and lines of the same where the fiery blood of the Dark Gods trickled from his mouth after his ascension. You see, Lord Alice was once one of a group of heroes, nearing the title of Demigods. However, Alice knew that they were the very darkness that he'd always desired to destroy, and upon their ascension he turned on his former comrades, slaying them all and absorbing their strength.

Lord Alice is insane. He is sadistic. He is dark, and twisted, and freakish - but he is not evil. For while he employs nauseating, nightmarish tactics in his retributions, they are always perfectly just, always leveled against those worthy of such treatment. He could almost be called good - again, if not for the whole "sadistic, twisted, nightmarish" thing. For his part, Alice doesn't over think his role. While he is intellectual, the insane part of him overrides any need for introspection. There needs to be a hell, and who better to run it? Indeed, the few that worship Alice among all others have the opportunity to descend to Dragontown themselves, not as victims, but as divine tormentors of the damned.

Lord Alice has few temples; those that exist are grim edifices where hymns are sung of cannibalism, debauchery, and madness, for one must know of the darkness in the world to avoid entering it. Curiously, a large section of Alice's clergy consists of redeemed villains, those that would have surely met their eternal death in Dragontown if not for hearing of the fate that awaited them - in gruesome detail. Indeed, the current Archpaladin of the faith is a mind flayer! (A purely formal title; in game terms he's a cleric/fighter)

"We can dig you a hole... deep in the ground... bury your soul down in Dragontown."

Lady Floyd
The Pink
Intermediate Deity, Chaotic Neutral

Symbol: A cracked brick wall
Portfolio: Insanity, Music, Community, Freedom
Cleric Alignments: Any non-lawful, non-evil. Mostly CN
Domains: Community, Creation, Madness, Mind
Favored Weapon: Whatever's nearby.

Lord Alice's lover and equal, Lady Floyd is every bit as mad as her beloved. The difference is that she's the cracked, harmless sort of mad; the patron of everyone driven sane in a crazy world. The somewhat androgynous, carnation-haired Floyd has shattered eyes and stilted mannerisms, but while her day-to-day behavior is an oddity, and even her manner of ascension a mystery, her dogma is a simple one: Break down the walls. The walls of emotional boundaries, that we build up as a defense from trauma, keeping ourselves from the outside world. Change the world, that the gears that crush and mangle are undone, and all are one.

Lady Floyd's temples are occasionally paired with Lord Alice's, but for the great majority of the time they are independent. Followers intake varied magical and psionic substances to break down the barriers between them - and between everything else. A truly advanced member of the Church of Floyd can feel the connection between every being, every action, and every notion that there ever is or was... holding on to it, however, is tricky. For the worthy, Lady Floyd promises an afterlife of enlightenment, where nothing is hidden.

"And everything under the sun is in tune... as the sun is eclipsed by the moon...."

well damn... I was going to add to this with my personal favorite rockers but their names all refer to things that would get me banned(again) for talking about...

maybe I'll think of someone else... but anyway, I like this, it's awesome and I can't wait to see what else people come up with.

Would you object if I added one or two of my own?

Object? Hell no, this is an open project. There's WAY too many rock bands out there for one guy to convert `em all.

Just make sure you stick a song lyric from `em at the end of the entry. Makes it easier for those that don't share your listening tastes (yet) to look up the artist you've based `em off of.

Hansin Kursht
The Guardian of the Blind; The Mystical Old Bard
Intermediate Deity, Neutral Good

Symbol: A lute with three dragons clinging to it
Portfolio: Legends, epic poetry, singing, memory
Clergy Alignments: Any non-evil
Domains: Knowledge, Courage, Mysticism, Glory
Favored Weapon:Mace*

Hansin appears as a man whose appearance changes from time to time, but he always is shown in holy images wearing a hood and holding a lute. He came from somewhere far beyond our reality, but immediately took to his self-appointed task of gathering stories from famous writers and putting them to song. Hansin's most notable trait is his fantastic voice, which sounds like a massive choir when unleashed. He is never without his companions, also known as the Guardians of the Blind, Andrinus, Markos and Fraderisk. They add their powerful talent at instruments to Hansin's majestic voice to relate the stories they know to the masses.

Hansin has also lent his voice to others, to aid in telling their stories, including the Iron Saviors, a guy named Ed and a group of grave diggers. Most notable was when he temporarily joined a god from an ice-covered earth, Jaeon Skafffir, and related a number of stories to a gathering of demons and wizards, eventually earning the accolade, The Demon and The Wizard for their own.

Temples to Hansin and the Guardians of the Blind are generally modest places, some built of stone, some in the forests and even one in an opera house. Hansin's followers are nicknamed "bards" even if that is not their proffession, and are generally more intellectual than some clerics of the Gods of Rock. They are also fond of singing, as their patron does.

Tommorow will take us away. . .far from home. . .no one will ever know our names. . .but the bards' songs will remain. . .

*Only reason I chose this was because I couldn't think of a better weapon to represent them, and since Hansi's the vocalist and always has a microphone, I picked the weapon that closely resembled a mic, a mace.

I gave it my best shot:

The Led Lords
Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, John Bonham
Greater Deities

Symbol: A crashing airship symbolizes the [Led Zeppelin I] Each member is also represented by their own symbol. [Untitled Album]
Portfolio: Magic, Music, Rune, Travel
Clergy Alignments: Any Chaotic
Domains: Chaos, Magic, Rune, Travel
Favored Weapon: Warhammer.

Hailing from lands of ice and snow, from where the from the midnight sun where te hot springs flow, yon power trio plus lead vocalist carved their legacy into the face of rock. Though they wre all bards, each was strikingly different. Robert Plant was a lore keeper of the days of old, and Jimmie Page delved deeply into arcane secrets. John Bonham is famous for dueling-weildings great clubs in combat. Meanwhile, John Paul Jones was almost famous for his elusive nature.

There is some debate over the ascension. Some myths tell that from the very beginning the band was destined for greatest. Others claim that they stumbled onto a stairway to the heavens, which allowd them to ascend. Either way, there is little denying their impact on the plane. Many of their adventures merely came about during their travels, over hills and the ocean and then past mountains, to a golden land known as California.

Unfortunately, Bonham's love of mead brought about his dowfall, and the group splintered. Recently, however, a son of Bonham has surfaced, and the Led Zeppelin may once again take flight.

I hope Bon Scott and Brian Johnson will be honored with thier own places in this mythology. Maybe with the legendary Hell's Bell as an artifact. I'd do it myself, but I have no little trouble just writing a simple post like this, let alone do any justice to Rock Gods them.

Elvis the King
Greater Deity, Neutral Good

Symbol: Sideburns, blue suede shoes, rhinestones and satin
Portfolio: Music, weather, hounddogs
Clergy Alignments: Any
Domains: Animal, Charm, Death, Good, Magic, Nobility, Strength, Sun
Favored Weapon: Hips

Before even the First Four, there was the King. His mere name caused mortals to swoon, and he granted the Gift of Rock to an undeserving world. It is said that he was a mortal, a mere carter before he ascended in an instant of rockabilly ecstasy.

He has since "left the building", and believed to have ascended to a realm even deities cannot acheive. Still, his avatars have been spotted in taverns throughout the realm. His priests are unmistakeable, dressed in sideburns, white satin shawls and singing their lord's praises.

Thank you very much.

The Man in Black
Greater Deity, True Neutral

Symbol: A burning ring of fire
Portfolio: Travel, prisons, "the line"
Clergy Alignments: Any neutral
Domains: Darkness, Fire, Liberation, Luck, Protection, Travel
Favored Weapon: None

The Traveling Man is recognized because he is always dressed in black. He is said to visit those who have been imprisoned, justly or unjustly, offering comfort, release and redemption. He's walked the line and passed through a burning ring of fire. Enigmatic and soulful, his power is often underestimated.

I have a bit too much on my plate as it is, and I'm not sure I could do the great band justice. I'm not the best at statting up anything. ;)

When I find some extra time again I can try and do it, it will be awhile though so if anyone else would like to then feel free to.

Akk'dekk
Teyente, the Dirty Deed, He of the Grand Balls
Intermediate deity, Chaotic Neutral

Symbol: A lightning bolt
Portfolio: Thunder, Explosions, Goblins, Genteel government
Clergy Alignments: CN, N, Some CE and CG
Domains: Trickery, Destruction, Nobility, Weather
Favored Weapon: Axes

Called "Teyente" by the Orcs (a name that translates into 'Explosive One'), Akk'dekk is the greatest of all goblin gods that have ever been. With scraggly terrier-like hair jutting out from around a foppish cap, childish shorts pulled high on his fuzzy legs, Akk'dekk strikes a somewhat comical image at first. That image is almost entirely offset by the dichotomy of his existence; as a war deity, he is ruthless. No tactic is too underhanded, no deed too dirty to be done. As a result, many mercenaries also pay him due. Legend states that he once charged into battle on behalf of a small goblin tribe entirely unarmed; no sword, no knife, nothing, and dared an entire army to attack him. He then exploded, taking all but a few scouts with him, and reconstituted himself. Akk'dekk is something of a nuisance in that way - he has died hundreds of times, and each time his death has been incredibly destructive, but each time he comes back, coated in soot and otherwise none the worse.

The flipside of Akk'dekk is a surprising one - he loves the trappings of genteel royalty and courtly life. It is not merely suggested, but outright stated that out of all the gods, Akk'dekk has the grandest balls of them all. Granted, there are those that take that statement in an entirely unhealthy, perverse way... but those freaks are best left out of religious discussion, right?

"Yes, I'm back in black..."

The Tyrant
The Harvester of Sorrows, The Sandman, The Master of Puppets
Greater Deity, Lawful Evil

Symbol: Four barbed arrows arranged in a square, one point running in each of the cardinal directions.
Portfolio: Fear, Death, Pain, Anguish, Control
Clergy Alignments: LE, NE
Domains: Evil, Law, Darkness, Destruction
Favored Weapon: Greatsword or spiked chain

None would have ever called The Tyrant good; sympathetic, perhaps, to the plight of the warrior. Wise, perhaps. But those days are long gone. The Tyrant became jealous of his songs; he killed the demigod Napp who dared to share them, along with the songs of countless others, and stole all his tunes back. So complete was his recall that he actually stole his very name back from the world; if anyone still remembers what his true name is, no one has the guts to say it aloud. The Tyrant is usually depicted as a pale human with short blonde hair, spiked with sweat, clad in iron armor.

The Tyrant's dogma is one of control through force, and it is visible in his dealings with the mortal realm. His temples enforce a strict theocracy in the lands they're built in; the church-run militias constantly war with surrounding areas to expand their lands and secure new worshipers. The new sheep, in turn, must pay exorbitant sacrifices to the temple for the (mandatory) privilege of hearing the Tyrant's songs. The worst part? With his army enhanced by nigh-immortal Sandmen, voodoo 'fixxxer' priests, and other things that should not be... all of whom are controlled directly by archpriests... there seems to be no stopping his advances. The Tyrant's one weakness seems to be alcohol - his fuel, his fire, and the one vice he desires.

"Drain you of your sanity.... face the things that should not be!"

Nice job Mr. Seth. I have GnR started and should have them finished tomorrow. Mine are nowhere near as creative as yours though Seth. Basically at the moment all I have is they are CE and the domain of destruction (Appetite for Destruction) and of course I've worked some on creating Axl and Slash as seperate gods from the band. And I've gotten the pics for their symbols ready. As I said though it should be ready for posting tomorrow.

Guns N Roses
Guns 'N Roses
The Appetite of Destruction, The World's Most Dangerous Band
Greater Deity, Chaotic Evil

Symbol:
http://www.freewebs.com/ericnorsbootlist/classic%20sheild.bmp
Portfolio: Controversy, Tardiness, Intoxication, Riots
Cleric Alignments: Any Chaotic
Domains: Destruction, Chaos, Plant, Death
Favored Weapon: Revolver pistol or a rose shaped weapon of any kind.

The Guns N Roses are best expressed as an entity created as a merger of two other gods, Rose of the Hollywoods and L.A.Guns. The two other gods were powerful in their own right but together they created a creature of pure destruction and chaos. New Rock Gods were spawned as followers of GNR became gods themselves, Prince Axl Rose and Slash for instance. This great god of chaos and evil has reigned unmatched for centuries and is evolving and adapting to its new victims even today. This embodiment of chaos causes riots wherever it is present, no dwelling has withstood its presence for long. Guns N Roses has become a feared and hated presence among its pantheon, mainly due to its great cleric-turned-god Axl Rose. The God known as Nirvana has a special hatred for GNR and plotted to destroy him before the Nirvana lost its most powerful cleric, Kurt Kobain.

Guns N Roses has itself recently broken a part of itself off to create a new god of Rock known as The Velvet Revolver. This split has been rumored to be in part due to the events of the Spaghetti Incident but details even about the incident are full of Lies rumors and half-truths. The Velvet One seems to be as chaotic as its parent god and took most of the more powerful clerics with it upon its split. The entity known as Guns N Roses has not weakened much from this split and retains its greatest cleric-god Prince Axl. Axl has in fact implied that the Velvet Revolver is in some twisted way part of Guns N Roses master plan, despite even the Velvet One's disdain for its parent.

Followers of Guns N Roses are often found to be wearing this pendent (http://www.grindstore.com/UserData/Poster/Poster_991_30801.JPG), it is often enchanted with various powerful magicks granted by the god entity himself.

The creature of Guns N Roses itself usually appears as a multi-armed, half invisible, large mouthed, red beast. The beast often spews forth various small 4-limbed red skulls from its body as it moves. The creature is known for destroying and consuming metal arms and armor with the same ease and voraciousness that it consumes flesh with.
(I cant post a link to the red creature due to the CoC but basically do a image search for Appetite of Destruction and you''ll see what I mean.)

Prince Axl Rose
Prince Axl Rose
The Betrayer, The Master of Fueds
Intermediate Deity, Chaotic Evil

Symbol:
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x74/geneticthylon/Gunsandroseslogo-1.jpg
http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/7024/starsr9.gif
Portfolio: Controversy, Tardiness, Abuse (Child and Spousal [Because of his childhood, not his personal life]), Riots
Cleric Alignments: Any Chaotic
Domains: Destruction, Chaos, War, Death
Favored Weapon: Revolver pistol or a rose shaped Mace (usually doubles as a voice amplifier, AKA microphone).

The greatest cleric-turned-god spawned from the great entity Guns N Roses, Prince Axl has remained loyal to his parent god and has remained the driving force behind it for its entirety. He is ruthless and powerful cleric and stops at nothing from making himself and his parent god the most powerful and perfect beings in the universe. He has been there throughout the years inciting riots and assaulting defectors personally. When questioned about his actions he always seems to twist the situation so that he was right all along. Regardless of what some will say thisalways seems to be truth and his followers cite this whenever needed.

As a human child and before his ascent to godhood, Axl was mistreated by his family and forced to watch his mother brutalized as well. It has been theorized that this is the reason behind his creation of the entity Guns N Roses and for his ruthlessness as a god himself. His longtime friend Slash, has recently left the worship of GNR and began his own project entity along with other powerful former clerics of GNR. Despite everyone turning from Prince Rose, the great prince still believes in his cause and pursues his goals with the same ruthlessness as always.

Slash
Slash
The Prince of Guitars, Prodigy of the Pick
Intermediate Deity, Chaotic Evil

Symbol: A skull covered by long curly hair, wearing a black tophat and sunglasses, and lazily smoking a cigarette.
http://www.alltshirts4you.com/images/4747_large.jpg
Portfolio: Tophats, Guitars, Intoxication,
Cleric Alignments: Any Chaotic
Domains: Destruction, Chaos, Darkness, Death
Favored Weapon: Axe (Generally doubles as a guitar)

As a child Slash was a prodigy of natural aptitude in the magical arts and of creating and playing music. As he grew into adulthood his natural abilities pushed him to a slight arrogance as he grew more and more powerful. He fell in with worshipping Guns N Roses in its early days and with his prodigal abilities, Slash quickly rose through the ranks and became a powerful cleric of the entity of GNR. He helped the god to gain many followers with his shows of magic and promise that following the god GNR would grant them such powers as well. During this time, Slash was able to ascend to godhood himself due his great shows of might that granted him worship. Soon though he grew tired of Prince Axl's strange and abusive ways and began to set himself up a project god.

This new god was first known as Pit-Snake and would be Slash's way out of the church of GNR while still retaining his powers. The Pit-Snake god was not able to gain enough worshippers and was remade into a new being called Velvet Revolver. With this new god Slash was abe to steal away many of the powerful clerics of GNR and suddenly left the worship of Guns N Roses. He lost some power at first but quickly gained it back to become on par with Prince Rose in terms of power. Slash is now pressing his new god forward and doing quite well for himself. He awaits Axl's next move with Guns N Roses anxiously and denies any claim that he or his new god is part of Axl's plans.

If any of you are familiar with Grimjack the comic book, there is a great, great issue where Grimjack goes to a dimension where soundwaves are massive weapons, and so rock bands are actually truly powerful gatherings of people. However, this pantheon would be stuffed so full with gods. :P

Who would you consider to be the over-diety/ies?

Point the first - exactly. Hundreds of deities, ranging from the mighty Hansin (see above) to the loudmouthed, self-aggrandizing Manowar; from the pacifistic, amneisac Seeker to the blind fury of the Slayer. Even Rhoysh, the only deity known to the multiverse to be atheistic.

Let that one settle for a bit...

Point the second makes point the first a little more understandable - the Overgod of this setting is The Song; the Divine Chords, the Perfect Tone. Inherently unknowable, for to know The Song in its entirety is to know perfect omniscience; such enlightenment could only lead to the death of one's temporal form or to utter insanity. And yet, each of the Gods of Rock knows - instinctively, from years of honing their craft - a tiny, infinitesimal shard of The Song, which is evident in their music.

At least one more God of Rock from me by 11 PM central.

I personally think if we were to add rappers, they'd be as fiends, with a few traitors to the song such as Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, once devotees of the song that chose the methods of rap as a quick rise to fame and power to promote the song, but can now never know the entirety of the Song because of their treachery.

But they became too powerful, and too defiant, and for their cosmic crimes were banished to the most insignificant planet in the universe...

Millions of years passed, and they slumbered, until the pollution of your world de-thawed these creatures from their ageless coma...and now they stride the world, living gods, dedicated to one goal, the destruction of the human race, and the eradication of existence itself! Wait- that’s two goals!

The Working Man
Intermediate Deity, Neutral

Symbol: A pentagram with the figure of a reeling man inside it.
Portfolio: Atheists, Intellectuals, Gamblers, Irony
Cleric Alignments: N
Domains: Luck, Mind, Protection
Favored Weapon: Crossbow

Rhoysh is a paradox; he has ascended to godhood, but rejects all claims to such. He says that he is naught but a man in the form of a god, as are all others. As such, he has no worshipers, but instead followers of similar mindset. That is not to say that he rejects all forms of the divine: indeed, he would have to be blind to not acknowledge the power of The Song.

The teachings of Rhoysh all center around the rejection of dogma and the dignity and freedom of mankind. He states that fate is an illusion - that it is nothing but circumstance, a cosmic roll of the dice.

The Spawn
The Original Prankster, Bob
Lesser Deity, Chaotic Good

Symbol: A flaming skull
Portfolio: Cynics, Rebels, Sailors, Youth, Lizardfolk
Cleric Alignments: CG, CN, NG
Domains: Scalykind, Good, Chaos, Trickery
Favored Weapon: Warhammer

No one's quite sure where the tenor lizardfolk known as The Spawn came from; a coastal community, for sure, as he professes a deep love of the sea and beaches. It's known that for a lizardfolk he harbored a long-standing hatred for the exploitation and heartbreak that cling to most relationships like cold to ice, especially relationships where sex was involved - unlike most of his kin that just see it as something to do before eggs are laid. Many of his songs are against such things. Others just scream out against the current state of the world, and the stupidity and shortsightedness of the sentient races. But at the end, he's not afraid to laugh at things: some of his more lighthearted songs involve high society brats posing as street toughs (poorly) and the plight of bathing in prison.

The Spawn is always viewed as a short lizardfolk with dull white-gold scales, usually with an Axe at his side and a warhammer strapped to his back. His followers rally against all that is stupid and corrupt in the world, knocking down the walls of hatred, manipulation, and idiocy. Some people think of them as a militant (if severely goofy) branch of Lady Floyd's faith; in practice, this isn't too far off the mark.

"Knock down the walls - it's a lovely view! Knock down the place - you're alone, it's true. Knock down the world - it's alive in you!"

Hybrid
The Crawling One, The Screaming
Lesser Deity, Neutral Evil

Symbol: A warrior with dragonfly wings
Portfolio: Betrayal, Fear, Despair, Vengeance
Cleric Alignments: NE, CE, LE
Domains: Evil, Charm, Darkness
Favored Weapon: Razors

All remember Hybrid's rapid ascension to power; his dark music, a corruption of The Song's power, had a bizarre and undeniable appeal to the young, and thousands upon thousands were lost to his dark cult. Thankfully, he had but a tiny shard of The Song within him; his songs quickly grew repetitive, the hooks fell, and his power dwindled. His cult has been battered down to a tenth its previous numbers, but those that remain are the most depraved and self-righteous of all their numbers. For the time being, it seems that no one will be able to rid the world of their influence... unless one of the Gods themselves descends to fight them.

Hybrid's songs are twisted and deranged compared to the holy force of The Song; there is no righteous fury, there is only self-destructive angst. There is no victorious revelry, there is only deprival. There is no ballad, there is only the chant. It is small wonder, then, that both Hybrid and his followers are wraithlike and withered in appearance; Hybrid himself is a hairless, bone-thin figure, clad in armor that looks like shabby dragonfly scales, replete with giant wings jutting from his back. His rituals often involve mass suicide; usually of dominated individuals who were about to leave the cult.

Jetro Tianull
The Whistler, The Teacher, The Minstrel in the Gallery
Intermediate Deity, Chaotic Good

Symbol: A minaiture image of Jetro himself
Portfolio: Seasons, Poetry, Mirth, Revelry
Cleric Alignments: Any non-lawful, non-evil
Domains: Community, Creation, Plant, Air
Favored Weapon: Broadsword (longsword, for the purposes of the rules)

Jetro is widely regarded as an eccentric but lovable deity. He appears as a human with wild hair and beard, dressed in a long coat and standing on one foot, playing a flute. There are those wisemen who say that he's thick as a brick, but that is because they don't know how it feels to be so. Jetro has always had a soft spot for the people who live close to nature, like farmers and such. He has a retinue of companions that travel with him, with members coming and going throughout the years, though one follower named Martinius Barren has been with him almost since the beginning.

Jetro's music has changed throughout his time in this world almost as much as his companions. He started with the almost standard version of The Song at the beginning, but went in many directions since then, some songs being cheery folk tunes and songs from the wood, while others have been more pessimistic and melancholy. He enjoys performance greatly, gleefully prancing about piping on his flute.

Jetro's followers are usually older than most, but there are a few among the youth who admire him. Temples to Jetro Tianull usually have a stage of some sort, as live performance is part of the magic of his music. They also usually have a small amount of alcohol, but never any of the more serious substances that other faiths are familiar with.

The Airsmith
Just the Airsmith, you dig?
Greater Deity, Chaotic Good

Symbol: A winged "A" rune, in varied alphabets.
Portfolio: Love, Lust, Freedom, Rebellion
Cleric Alignments: CG, NG, CN
Domains: Good, Chaos, Air, Healing
Favored Weapon: Steel-toed boots

The Airsmith is omnipresent. While among the oldest of the gods, he is still incredibly vital, and still brings his music to the world in person. The Airsmith has always been a deity dedicated to love - specifically, the more physical aspects of love. A master of the double-entendre, few of his songs are without at least one memorable one. In his view, music is what you make of it, a powerful force - and, when used properly, a powerful weapon. The Airsmith is always seen as a tall, wiry fellow with thick, rubbery lips and a large nose; the effect is one that gives him character, rather than one that taints his charisma with comical effect.

In his early days, the Airsmith was dedicated entirely to love and lust; nowadays he is somewhat more pensive. He recognizes that his wild advances left more than one partner jaded, and sees the darkness spreading in this world. There is only so much a single entity can do - even a deity - but he and his chosen are bound and determined to make a stand against the bigotry, idiocy, and other evils that abound in this realm... especially those that have infected the system, driving many against the holy purity of The Song.

well, there's two ways to do something like this, either one form of music is the true song and all others enemies or pretenders, or all music is a tiny aspect of the song. I personally would rather do the former with rock, and variations thereof, the true song and rap, even what little of it I like, an enemy. However... with the later it certainly opens up the possibility of sub-pantheons for each genre and rivalries between pantheons. Having heard an accoustic soft rock cover of "Boyz in the Hood", I personally see rap as an abomination of music, the lyrics can be perfectly fine when set to another style, but the style is what I view as bad.

in short, you do it your way, I do it my way and we always preface our stuff with IMO or IMC.

Force
The Heart of the Dragon, The Fury of the Storm
Intermediate Deity, Chaotic Good

Symbol: A sinuous dragon wrapped around a blade
Portfolio: Barbarians, Cold weather, Dragons, Willpower
Clergy Alignments: CG, NG, CN
Domains: Strength, Glory, Fire, Alacrity
Favored Weapon: Greatsword

Force began life as not one, but four great warriors of the frozen wastelands. They journeyed to the Land of the Sun to the south, driving out the darkness that dwelt there, shattering the curse that prevented the Song from manifesting its divine powers in those blighted lands. Legend has it that in the final battle they destroyed five legions of the dark lord's soldiers before they could even unsheath their blades, such was the speed that they came upon their foes. United in glory, they were raised to godhood by the great Dragon-God; so linked were their wills that instead of becoming four gods, they became one, the Heart of the Dragon. That title became less an honor and more literal as the strength of the Dragon-God waned, his people cut down by a great inquisition. The Force stepped in, and through their intervention were the dragons saved - while cut down to a tenth their previous number, the race still draws breath, and Force is still able to aid them.

Force's dogma is one of triumph through superior willpower; it doesn't matter what methods you use to defeat your foe, as long as your heart is pure, your intent true. Magic, might, it's all the same effect in the end - victory. He is typically seen as either a mighty beast dragon with eyes of flame, or as a mighty human barbarian. In either form, his voice is a chorus, his footsteps thunderous. He is never seen to strike a foe once; rather, his blows come as a raging hailstorm of flame. What seems to be one blurred stroke will hit a hundred times, rending to bits what was before it.

Lesser Deity, Neutral Evil

Symbol: Three Human Males in Siluete
Portfolio: Death, Depression, Fire, Blasphemy
Clergy Alignments: CE, LE, N, NE
Domains: Death, Earth, Evil, Fire,
Favored Weapon: Dagger

Three young men of Chi-town were drawn together by their mutual disgust in the gods and their dissatisfaction with the world that they had created. They saw the world as a dark and dreary place and wanted to change it for the better, but felt that they lacked the power to do so. Research into world changing magic led them to a much debased version of the teachings of The Song. In a well intentioned, but foolish effort to master the power of The Song, the three young men performed a dark, but powerful ritual. The ritual involved the consumption of strong liquor, the letting of blood, and the lighting of hellish fires. When it was completed, the three found that they had bound themselves together in the the fires of the underworld. They had gained a portion of the power of the song, but only in damnation and undeath.

Lesser Diety, Chaotic Evil

Symbol: A batwinged inverse cross
Portfolio: Death, Unjust War, Darkness
Cleric Alignments: CE, NE
Domains: Death, War, Darkness, Evil
Favored Weapon: Mace

Hailing from a northern land of darkness, where many such black dieties are spawned, Marduk was formed for the sole
purpose of spreading blasphemous evil across the world. First released upon the world during the winter solstice of
992 P.C., as a vessel for the evil lich Morrigan Hassakson to spew his dogma of dark glory and pure malice, it quickly
became a force to be reckoned with. Some centuries later it became even more powerful as it added its patronage to
all who wage unjust and evil wars. This expansion to Marduk's portfolio gained it even more followers, and this dark
god rampages across the northern countrysides even now.

Symbol:A rose on a bloodstained angelwing

Domains:Good,Cold,Ocean,Passion(BOED)
Favored Weapon:None

The Lady of Snow Whispers, Tarkia was the only one to ascend to divinity from a group of bards known as rhe Nightwishing(Nightwish). This happened when the others, amazed, but also fearing and envying the power she had gained, abandoned her and left her to freeze in the northern mountains, in full view of the ocean. Then, understanding her ominous fate she walked in a white dress towards the ocean her singing voice echoing through the night breeze and when she reached the water, she closed her eyes, ready to sink in. Nevertheless,that did not happen, for she was suddenly walking in the air, towards the heavens and into the luminous halls of the upper planes wher she found herself as a deity of immense power. She held no spite to her former friends and now watches over bards of the northern lands, instructing them to the ways os her music; a music gentle to move the heart, but also vibrant enough to motivate the scared. Tarkia appears as a raven haired human woman of great beauty, dresses in white and exuding a radiant light.

Greater Deities, Neutral Good

Favored weapon: None

To many the decision to cast out the haughty Tarka from their band was their doom from possible Godhood. Indeed many did not understand. But when they walked away and found another voice to carry their portions of the Song. The Wishmasters were born again. They once again sang of the dark wonders in a lost chest. Their sang their anger and how their dreams were shattered, And their dreams again once found in far away Shahara. Till the day came, in some small concert room when they voices rang to their worshippers and once again the Glorius Song came to them in their highest voice. They ascended ever more to go on and carry their words but only to those that would forgive and listen to them once again...

Are you in your sane minds? Nightwish was destroyed at the moment Tarja left. I can agree that Annette's voice not bad, but still it is not metal what they are playing now and everybody I knew that listened to them now refuses to even hear the new songs.

I am going to forgive you this time and post another one.

Randonashadel was the first bard maiden to be guided to godhood by Tarkia. Child of a human family, she quickly took up the life of a bard and became a traveler. Wherever she went, audiences stood amazed, until one day she sought shelter from the rain in a wilderness temple of Tarkia. She stayed there for 2 years and when she left she was as deeply in touch with Metal as anyone could be. Gradually she gathered her followers and one night Tarkia appeared in her dream and instructed her how to find her way to divinity. One day, the forces of evil gathered an army led by ancient dragons and malicious fiends. Randoshanadel gathered the people on a nearby hilltop and sang the Ice Queen. The skies went instantly black and a great snowstorm brewed that buried the attackers in instants. And then Randoshanadel vanished in a burst of light, her last words echoing in the silence: "Stand your ground,my friends. I will watch you from the divine halls".

"Stand my ground,I don't give in
I won't deny it.
Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside
If I don't make it, someone else will
Stand my ground

Gentlemen, let's not start a flame war here. I've heard Nightwish both before and after Tarja left, and I think both of them have equal merit. Annette doesn't have the same operatic quality as Tarja, but she's getting there. I personally find the band's decision to basically mock Tarja in some of their more recent songs as a rather petty move, but who can blame them for being upset by the events that led to her dismissal. Besides, Tarja seems to be having a successful solo career and on the whole, they seem to have simply gone their separate ways. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for a pretty song but to me there doesn't seem to be enough of a difference between the old and new Nightwish to complain about, so let's just drop it and move along. Thank you.

The Elder are said to be eternal, and among the first to give the gift of Rock and Roll to man. At a time when the meaning of the song was lost on many of their contemporaries they reminded them that the meaning of the song is the meaning of life, to make love.

Each is said to wield an artifact of great power. The Starchild carries a shield with a shattered mirror face, when shown to an opponent it shows all the evil they have committed in addition his right eye tattooed with a star can see past, present, and future it is said it carries other powers as well. The Demon wears a codpiece that makes him irresistable to women of any race. It is said that atleast half of all half-demons are his children. He uses his bat-like wings to fly over his opponent and then breathes fire down upon them and uses his sonic axe to finish off any survivors. The Beastmaster possesses a large cross medallion giving him the ability to commune with all nature, both feral and fauna. He also has the ability himself to turn into a large cat, no one knows if he can take other forms. The Space Ace carries a very special bow. It is said that all the stars in the sky were shot from his bow, it is said that few can rival his knowledge of the song, the others making music only to elevate his.

Symbol: A skeletal figure in a parade master's uniform
Portfolio: Death, Loss, Sadness, Revenge (of the Sweet kind)
Cleric alignments: N, CN, CG, CE
Domains: Chaos, Death, Darkness, Madness
Favored weapon: Dagger

The Romantic is a fusion of five bards, though it has not always been this way. Girard, the one that orchestrates the construct, was a storyteller before he witnessed a tragic massacre that drove him into the life of a bard. Originally, Matt Pelyssyre was the one that formed the being with Weye. They acquired Torou and Mykey, Girard's brother, along the way to their first Songs, and finally, they got Iyerowe from the ashes of Pynce Prep, another group of quasi-deities. After releasing the first two groups of their Songs to the world, Pelyssyre was expelled from the entity for unknown reasons, and Bryre was absorbed into the consciousness. The grief and sorrow that fuels their Songs has led those that would be jealous of their music to label them as "not rock". The label "emo" has been placed upon these gods for their emotional music, but Girard angrily rejects such claims as those of pretenders.

Rock is the language of the gods.
The voices of good deities sound like Rolling Stones, Dragonforce or Rhapsody of Fire's incredible riffs, while those of evil deities resemble the disturbing and macabre guitar rape of death metal and punk.

Demons and Angels alike can be swayed by rock in its various forms.
One particular prestige class can even banish outsiders by challenging the individual to a rock off; judged by the gods of rock, and some times by Olidimara, patron deity of Epic Metal. Such challenges may not be declined by lawfully aligned outsiders, but chaotic ones tend to be haughty and generally always accept anyway.

Favored Weapon: Scramasax

Born ere Atlantis Fell, enthroned forever in eternal glory amidst the aeon-veiled ice-shrines of Ultima Thule, Bal Sagoth are an entity utterly unto themselves, transcending both time and life in their station of immortal majesty.

They have beheld and recorded all the ages of the world, from the great cataclysms that befells Lemuria and Atlantis, to the noble sacrifice and heroic glory of the imperial legions of Hyperborea in their desperate struggle against the cacophonous wraith-horde of Angsaar, the Dark Liege of Chaos.

They have beheld the the blackened orb which burned bright over ancient Lemuria.

They are blessed by sidereal flame which engulfed the high seat of power in Ultima Thule

They command that martial sorcery woven in the pitiless throng of epic battle

They are students of the astral power permeating the multiverse and the might of the cosmic codex

They have observed the rise and fall of glorious Atlantis

And they speak the blasphemies contained within the Chthonic Chronicles

They have seen oblivion and damnation.
They have seen truth, and enlightenment.
They have seen the closure of the Great Circle Without End.
They have seen the Sixth Great Cataclysm.
They have seen the alpha and the omega,
They have seen the beginning... and I saw the end.
The end of all there is!

Bow down to the supernal majesty of Immortal Bal Sagoth!

And so, enrobed by tendrils of Starfire, and swathed in the raiments of lunar mist, the immortal liege whose sceptered empire is eternity, sits enthroned and brooding over his darkened realm once more.

Kain Hannser
The pixi, the smiling God.

Greater Deity, Chaotic Good

Symbol: a Ying-Yang symbol inside of an embroidered triangle.
Portfolio: Happiness, Freedom, Life, Light.
Clergy Alignments: CG, NG, CN.
Domains: Good, Sun, Travel (Maybe one more? I´m stuck here and I don´t have my books at hand).
Favored Weapon: Spear (The flying V).

Kain Hannser is a god that embodies happiness and positiveness. Often depicted as a pixi, or similar roguish kinds of fey, he is best known for the founding of Hell-we-win, a group of demi-gods and lesser gods that would soon become broadly worshipped among the various lands, and reach Greater Power status. Growing disenchanted with his companions, and desiring a greater freedom to act in whatever way he pleased, Hannser parted ways with them to persue other activities, and gaining a good amount of his Light and Sun portfolios. He plays an important role in the tale of heroes such as the Iron Saviors, and as been known to join forces with Hansin Kursht during his own ascension to godhood, supporting him and both of their faiths have been allied ever since. In the world of Avantasia, his avatar is often seen as a dwarf that answers to the name of Regrin. He is often backed by three divine servants named Zimmer, Richto and Schlachter, and with them, and the current integrants of Hell-we-win, is about to embark on another journey to lift the spirits of his followers.
It is often rumoured that he has precognized the Armageddon, and that he will be among the gods to judge the souls of the dead that day. The most widespread belief is that he will be in charge of defending the mortal´s acts so that they can reach the Heavenly planes, but not until the time has come. Apparently, one of his mottos is that "Heaven can wait", and meanwhile one should "do whatever you want, but do it with all your heart*".

"Let us fly away, let us praise the days
When the lust for the life is stronger than the fear.
Though we shiver and shake and we sometimes need a break.
It's the lust for life that never disappears."

The Rocker

Some times a bard will come into contact with a deity and hear his voice. Moved by the experience, he gains the ability to play stringed instruments in an unusual and supernatural way in an attempt to simulate the voice. Any lute, harp, mandolin or Shamisen becomes capable of making the same sounds as an electric guitar.

Races: Beings all over the multiverse have musical tradition and can become bards, therefore the possibility of becoming a rocker is not limited by race.

Alignment: A rocker may be of nay alignment, but alignment affects the kind of music the Rocker may produce. Good rockers play uplifting, heart stimulating riffs and heroic lyrics rythms akin to epic metal, while evil rockers play disturbing and disheartening themes with no real melody, and may be accompanied by guttural singing with macabre lyrics.

Prerequisites
Class Ability: Able to use bardic music
Spells: Able to cast at least one spell with the sonic descriptor
Skills: Perform (strings) 10 ranks

Game Rule Information
Hit Dice: d6
Skill Points: 6+int modifier
Attack Bonus: As Cleric

Instruments of Destruction (ex): A rocker of 3rd level or higher gains a +1 bonus to caster level for casting sonic based spells and language dependent spells such as suggestion, as well as a +1 bonus on the saving throw DC of any spell related to sound. This bonus increases to +2 at 6th level and to +3 at 9th level.

Wolf and Raven (ex): A rocker of 4th level or higher may sing and play the strings to produce dual bardic music effects. He may inspire courage and fascinate, or inspire competence while using countersong, et cetera.

Heart of a Dragon (ex): A rocker of 5th level or higher may now add a 1.5x multiplier to his charisma modifier for the purpose of perform checks.

Jam (ex): A rocker of 6th level or higher may make an impromptu rock performance to inspire awe or produce greater effects. He makes a perform check with a +10 bonus.

DC 20: Rock the Socks off, also known as a song of legend. Those affected must make a will save or have their attitude suddenly shift in the direction that which the Rocker desires for 1d4 days. He may inspire love, happiness, despair, lust, envy, greed, generosity, anger, fear, aggression, bliss, courage, irreverence, or piety.

DC 30: Change Lives, also known as the Song of Destiny. Any humanoid whose alignment is within a step of the Rocker is hereafter treated as friendly. Any who were previously friendly will now become helpful. This manner of song is dangerously capable of creating fanatics, it is up to the DM how to handle them. Any creature whose alignment is diametrically opposed to the player must make a will save or have his alignment changed to match the Rocker's; if he makes the save he is shaken for 1d4 hours.

DC 40: Massive Monster Mama Jam, also known as the voice of the gods. A rocker may focus this song onto a specific outsider and force it to return to its home plane unless it makes a will save.

DC 60: Master Exploder. Effects unpredictable. Up to the DM to decide. Breaking of instruments or killing of allies is nixed.

Cry for Eternity (ex): A rocker of 7th level or higher has attained legendary status, a legend that shall never die. Due to the supernatural nature of this status, a rocker no longer takes penalties for aging. Bonuses still accrue, and he still dies when his time is up. However, his life span is significantly extended. Even if the rocker isn't epic, treat him as having the Long Lived epic feat.

The Touch (su): Starting at 8th level, a rocker may inspire further feats of heroics in people who have been severely injured. His inspire courage ability from now on heals one hit point of damage per round to all allies, stabilizing injured characters who are in the negatives, and awakening those who rise above zero. Furthermore, the affected characters become immune to fear and demoralization effects.

Through the Fire and the Flames (su): At 10th level a rocker is a paragon of inspiration. If he spends 2 bardic music uses for the day and spends 1 full round rocking (as if he were casting a spell for 1 rounds). The song must be an epic ballad about the many heroes of the rocker's chosen deity. Those who hear the song or feel its vibrations underfoot gain a +4 sacred bonus on all attack and damage rolls, and saving throws. In addition, the affected parties gain Damage Reduction 10/ Epic, and Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, and Sonic Resistance 10 for 1 round per level.*

Not to mention the `effing Who, the Moody Blues, Hendrix, ZZ Top, and Jon Bon Jovi.

Rock is an insanely broad classification. You can stick about 1/4 of all modern music under that banner, and while you can pigeonhole all day long, at the end it comes down to one simple exchange:

"Yeah, but is it rock?"
"Well, yeah."
"`Nuff said."

The Ape Gods
Reavers of the Undead, the Simians
Intermediate Deities, True Neutral

Symbol: Several. The most common symbol of the Ape Gods is the visage of a gorilla with glowing eyes.
Portfolio: Insanity, music, experimentation, cooperation, illusion
Clergy Alignments: Any
Domains: *tbd*
Favored Weapon: Whatever you can get your hands on.

The Ape Gods are four mighty bards who ascended to godhood after discovering the Song - while among the monkeys of the jungle. A vapor trail dragging behind them, they were brought to the home of the pantheon, to rock forever. Unique in composition, the Ape Gods are of four entirely different viewpoints and alignments. Myrdahk the Dark was a warlock in life, and maintains a steady view of chaos and evil. His cunning was what assembled the group now known as the Ape Gods. The Dented is neutral good, possessed of a gentle nature and permanent empty-headed smile; an eternal headache causes him to drink and indulge in trollweed heavily. The Axe Princess is chaotic good, once a child warrior, a legendary figure that was used by tyrants for their conquest, until she broke away and devoted herself to the cause of freedom. And Rushael, bard proper and formerly-possessed son of rich merchants, is lawful neutral, his honor coming above all. Yet despite all this, the Song is what matters, and it is this point that the four congregate around, that which allows them all to bend to accommodate the others, and yea even to allow other gods to make music with them. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The end can justify the means, if the end is glorious enough. The band is more important than any of its members.

"And if time's elimination, then we've got nothing to lose. So please repeat the message - it's the music that we choose."

Favored Weapon: Any Axe (always have at least two basses and a guitar, sometimes three basses)

The Rivermen have been in existance for many ages; however, they have been active on and off for varying periods during their existence. This group originated in a mystical city of legend called Shi-cah-goh, a city of Winds and wide-shouldered people. However, over the years, the constituent deities of the group have changed, occasionally after one of the periods of dormancy, but also during their active years. Two of the deities are known to have fallen; others have left to attend to other matters. However, due to the many works that they have left in the world, all ten of the members still have some measure of veneration due to being part of the group at some point or the other.
The group is neutral ethically, but has more chaotic leanings; however, they fight against evil in many forms, especially against oppression, and thus give no power to evil. They watch over water, those who travel the water, and lovers, as well as many others. They are a mighty force to be reckoned with, even in this day and age.

That was so fun, I'll try another one:

Meat Loaf (can't come up with a cooler name than that! It just wouldn't be the same)
Like a Bat Out of Hell, I'll be gone when the morning comes
Intermediate Deity (Formerly Greater), Chaotic Good

Symbol: His own name; also, a motorcycle
Portfolio: Riders of any steed, Love, youth, music, Giants, actors
Clergy alignment: NG, CG, CN
Domains: Chaos, Good, Travel, Earth, Air, Animal, Destruction
Weapon: Unarmed, pole arms (mike stands)

Meat Loaf is among the largest of the Gods, and one with an up-and-down past. Since riding out of the Lone Star decades ago, he has become a potent force in the world, and is known by many of those in the world today, especially an odd cult at the Churches of Rocky Horror around the world. However, in his time as a deity, he has fallen from his pinnacle, and has spent much of his time climbing back up to his former place of glory.
Meat Loaf fights one foe above all: The Bat. An ancient monster who haunts the world, Meat Loaf has been fighting against this hell-spawn for most of his divine career. This monster has destroyed many a city under ML's protection, and he continues to hunt it to this very day.

The Tradewinds.

Also, sweet writeup. I saw these guys in concert a few months back, and I learned three things...

1) Rock knows no age. They played hard, they played well, and fragged if it wasn't the best performance I've ever seen... period. I lost count of how many pairs of panties were thrown onstage!

2) Styx needs next to no editing. Their live work was just as clean and tight as any album.

3) You do not take the stage after Styx. REO Speedwagon made this mistake... they were good, yes. But in comparison? Mediocre.

Getting back on topic -

Byb Dalon
The Free Wheel
Greater Deity (Neutral Good)
Symbol: A rolling stone
Portfolio: Windstorms, storytelling, lost love
Cleric Alignments: Any good
Domains: Good, Windstorms, Oracle, Fate
Favoured Weapon: none; Byb does not encourage warfare, but does not prevent his clerics from defending themselves

Byb was born in a small village, but once he left it, he never settled down. The Song was always a part of him, and his works were epic in scope, always drawing massive crowds whenever he found the time to preform. In time his fame grew, mainly by word of mouth, but as it grew he began to hide himself. He did not desire the massive adulation placed upon him, but it led him to transcend his mortal form and attain godhood. Even now, he is not a very overt god, but none can doubt his impact when he makes his presence known.

Depends on the setting. The Cayma in the Red Steel setting had pottery grenades. That was 2e, though. For 3e, you might have to go to Ravenloft as published by Sword & Sorcery.

Favored Weapon: Bastard Sword

Hmm~ The Gods are one thing... but what of the dressings that go with them? The godly artifacts, avatars, and servitors mentioned in their songs...?

~~~~
The Piper's Flute
Major artifact
A shining silver flute rests here, gleaming with a light that belies the dim surroundings. As your fingertips touch it, you can feel - and hear - a faint, whispering breeze about you, that fades an instant later.
This is the very flute once played by The Piper, the avatar of the Led Lords. It fell to earth after his ascent to the heavens, climbing the very winds. The flute has passed from bearer to bearer over the years, always finding those worthy of its latent power.
To an evil, materialistic, or selfish bearer, the flute is a simple masterwork flute, beautifully made but otherwise mundane - and, somewhat frustratingly, the keys stick at inopportune moments. As a result, about one note out of ten will be misplayed. To a bearer who is unconcerned with material matters and pure of heart, however, the flute will gladly lend its powers. In the hands of such a person, the tone it emits is pure and piercing as the north winds, yet soft as a summer breeze, and the air around them never seems to stay still for long.
Those that play it gain a +3 bonus to Perform (flute) checks. This grows to +5 if the bearer has 5 or more ranks in Perform (flute), +10 at 10 or more ranks, and +15 at 15 or more ranks. In addition, the bearer can use bardic music abilities as a bard of level equal to his hit dice - if the bearer already has those abilities, the save DC of each is increased by the number of ranks he has in Perform (flute).
The Triggerman
The Underhand, The Watching Death, The Sick One
Demigod, Chaotic Neutral
Symbol: Any crossbow or pistol
Portfolio: Sadism, Assassination, Hunting, Anonymity
Cleric Alignments: Not applicable - see description
Domains: Ditto
Favored Weapon: Wheellock pistol
The Triggerman is Lord Alice's hound, a murderous bounty hunter of Hell, sent to collect those that would escape to the material planes. He appears to be a tall, slim humanoid, clad in a grayed leather overcoat and broad-brimmed hat, until one sees his face. He has no eyes, no mouth, no ears - his head is an almost entirely featureless mask of flesh. Despite this, he can hear, see, and even speak - although his terrible, raspy voice never seems to come from him. The Triggerman is not worshiped per se - he is entirely a servitor of Lord Alice, and as such any who revere him are Alice's worshipers - or, on occasion, a follower of Lady Floyd that has been horribly wronged.
The Triggerman is often encountered on the material planes, seeking those that have escaped Dragontown. PCs may be enlisted to help him - he isn't especially proud, and has no problems offering pay in the form of magic items to those willing to hunt alongside him. However, the PCs will inevitably find that the Triggerman is ruthless, single minded in his pursuit of his quarry, and absolutely sick. As long as his quarry is evil - and any who have escaped from the clutches of Lord Alice most assuredly are - the Triggerman has no qualms with making his foes hurt before dragging them back to the underworld from whence they came.
It is worth noting that the Triggerman's pistols never run out of ammunition; they do not break or misfire, and bypass all damage reduction. Otherwise, they are treated as +1 wheellock pistols.
The Dark Carnival
The Jugglers, Fa'ii'go
Intermediate Deities, Chaotic Good
Symbols: A deranged clown's face, a gleaming cleaver-like hatchet, a butterfly.
Portfolio: Showmanship, salvation, liberation, bawd, wrestling
Clergy Alignments: CG, CN. Some rare NG, and many CE that actually worship the devils that the Carnival stands against.
Domains: *tbd*
Favored Weapon: Hatchet
A conglomeration of lesser demiurges animated by the Song, the Dark Carnival is a spectral construct of judgement. At the end of time, it is destined to consume all, and through its exhibits, judge the souls of all mortal beings, sending them to their destined reward or punishment. The Carnival was, however, unwilling to simply bide its time, waiting to throw the souls of an increasingly corrupt and twisted world to the devils. As it grew in power, it chose a pair of no-account, no-reputation bards and gave one a vision. A vision that would lead many to their redemption.
Acting as The Carnival's prophets, the bards (rechristened the Violent Juggler and Shag the Twain) had a hard go of things. They were widely feared for the misunderstood prophecy; they chose to tell of the darkest and most violent pieces of the revelation first, and their inherent bawdy, vulgar sense of humor and disrespect for lawful faiths turned many off. But time passed on, and at the end, many were shocked and stunned to see the two were, in fact, true followers of the Song - and that they had ascended to the power of demigodhood, although they have since kept much of their power concealed, preferring to live as much like any other mortals until the end of time.
The Dark Carnival lashes out at all that is corrupt, greedy, and noxious in man. Their holy songs, the six "Fool's Cards", are six warnings against the behaviors that will cause one's damnation. The first warned against ignoring the disenfranchised, destitute and helpless. The second warned against deception, and blind hatred. The third was a condemnation of greed and selfishness; the fourth decried necromancy, all selfish and wasteful uses of magic, and all evil thoughts. The fifth was a study of duality, of righteous wrath and choking corruption, and the sixth tied all five together, finally revealing the true nature of the Dark Carnival.
There are no permanent temples to the Dark Carnival. Rather, there are several large always-travelling canvas churches. Whenever one stops, it holds a large festival to go along with its services, replete with wrestling competitions and a large carnival-like sideshow. The faith of the Dark Carnival is still not widely known; most people only hear the darkest of their hymns, and see their highly theatrical antics as praising the darkness that they war against.
In truth, there are a small number of ignorant sub-cults that see the Dark Carnival as a construct of the devils, who take only a few of the hymns and twist them to create a culture of violence and death. These evil groups are agressively hunted out and purged by several faiths, including the temples of Lord Alice.
We believe in life legit!
If you're hearing what we say,
Why do you throw your soul away?"
Rage Kage & Jables
Tenacious D
Lesser, Chaotic Good
Symbols: A Jade Pick (or any other material that shows as green)
Portfolio: Rage Kage represents Hunger, Music & Trickery. Jables is a patron of Music, Luck and Chaos
Clergy Alignments: CG, CN.
Domains: Music, Chaos, Good, Luck, Trickery
Favored Weapon: The Axe (Weapon of All True Rockers!)
For much of their lives, Rage Kage and Jables were penniless bards, living on the generosity of passersby, until they learned of a mighty artifact. This artifact could catapult any being's musical talents into that of godlike proportions. As they journeyed towards their goal, Rage Kage was ensnared by succubi, before realizing that Jables, and the Music, must come first. Casting away the succubi, he rode to meet with Jables once again. The pair now re-united, continued towards their destiny. Sneaking through a mighty citadel, they gazed upon glory, the tooth of Mephistopheles. They grabbed the mighty item and narrowly escaped the guardians of the citadel.
However, the tooth of such a vile one is not without deep evils, and right before the duo went on to use the item, jealousy weaved it's way into their hearts, causing them to squabble over it with anger and hatred, eventually shattering it. The magic undone, the pair realized how foolish they'd been, but it was too late, from the tooth a great devil appeared, and surely they would be killed. But Jables sprung up, and challenged the Devil to a battle of music. The Devil's magics were strong, and created a fearsome riff that shook mountains. Though not even the dark magics of Ba'ator could defeat the musical fusion Rage Kage & Jables created when they united. The Devil was cast back into the layers of Ba'ator, defeated. Thinking that was the end, the duo went into the tavern they had been preparing to play for. As they began to strum their lutes, a sound so pure, so cleansing, so powerful, so...Metal arose from their instruments. The shattered tooth's powers had left the artifact and entered the souls of Jables and Kage, raising the two to become Bardic Deities. The show they performed that night was so Metal that many in the audience took up the cause of the two, starting a new religion in the realm. Now, Clerics and Paladins everywhere work to continue their legacy, these holy men and women are known as...
Tenacious Defenders.
Ronzer the Trant
He of the Elongated Spikes, Master Self-Destruct
Greater Deity, Chaotic Evil
Symbol: A length of rope, loosely coiled.
Portfolio: Anger, Lust, and Depression
Cleric Alignments: NE, CE, CN
Domains: Destruction, Madness, Chaos, Evil, Trickery
Favored Weapon: Bite attacks (any of his clerics who do not naturally have one gain a bite attack which deals damage as a creature one size smaller than they actually are.)
The rise of Ronzer the Trant is a mystery to most. While most lay people assume that he arose from and speaks for an often-misinterpreted cult dedicated to nihilism, unwavering acceptance of free expression, and an intolerance for society as a whole, the loose cult reviles the very mention of his name, feeling him a product of the society they claim to reject.
Wherever he originated from, it is obvious that he bears some part of the Great Song within him, even if his verses are a twisted portion of it. He is known to scream at his opponents in righteous anger, begging them to kill him, but none have yet succeeded, and thus the Wretched, as he calls them, have all been put down. Most of them, he has dispatched with either one of his innumerable nine-inch-long iron spikes or with teeth.
His priesthood are an odd lot, focusing mostly on introspection and self-loathing, but often turning that loathing on the world as a whole in order to spread The Trant's glory and anguish. They are jealous of any that find happiness, especially those who find love.
The protectors of man, The Dead remember the before-time. Before elves, dwarves, and halflings arose. When man was the only species there was... man and the constructs. The constructs created to make their lives easier, whom were brought under control of The Good Doctor, the madman whom enslaved the world. They remember the First Son of Light, the great construct who was created to liberate them when mankind would not fight for themselves. They remember how the First Son died in vain, and how the second, the Avenger, was born. They remember that the Avenger fought off thousands of the constructs, begging the crowds to come and fight alongside him. They remember when the First Son reappeared, on the side of the constructs, and dueled with his brother. A duel he lost on purpose, in the hopes that the crowds would remember the Avenger's victory, to give hope to future generations...
They also remember what happened afterwards. The Avenger's mind was broken. He left the crowds to their inevitable death. But it was not to be - for a few listened. A few were moved to action. A few survived.
And these few became the fathers of the next breed of what became the modern strain of humanity. These Proto-Men.... these deities, watching over their errant children, making sure that they remember the one great lesson of the First Son of Light -
"If these people tell this story
To their children as they sleep
Maybe someday they'll see a Hero
Is just a man who knows he's free..."
The Bogeymen
The Things that go Bump in the Night, The Monsters Under Your Bed
The Bogeymen are followers of The Tyrant. They were created by his twisted song, to forever scour the earth, feeding off of fear and pain. Bogeymen are, in fact, a larval form of a more powerful, nigh-immortal demigods - Sandmen. Although, in recent years, only one Sandman has been able to exist at a time. Perhaps this is because of the linked nature of the Bogeymen - they were all spawned of the same being, the first Bogey, Old Boh-Geiimon. Perhaps it is because of the twisted mental state of their creator. Perhaps it is something entirely different.
Bogeymen all look somewhat different. They have horribly deformed faces, usually with bony outcroppings, and large mouths with teeth that may be jagged, zipperlike, or huge flat crushing molars. Their flesh from the neck up is usually a pale, granular grey substance, and their eyes - anywhere from two to five clustered about their face - glow a pale amber, red, or orange. Below the head, the bodies of Bogeymen are formed of a black, stringy substance, which is somehow related to the Plane of Shadow. This gives their forms a strange sort of flexibility and adaptability, but light still harms them terribly.
Bogeyman adventurers are usually servitors of the Tyrant, sent forth to do his bidding. A few renegades exist, who harvest pain and fear on their own, seeking to devour enough to unseat the current Sandman and take his power - or denying their nature, trying their best to become beacons of hope, terrible only to their foes in the endless wars that wage across the land.
Bogeymen are usually neutral evil; few Bogeys ever become good.
RACIAL TRAITS
+2 CHA, +4 CON - Bogeymen are anything but attractive, but they have horribly forceful personas. They are also quite durable.
Abberation, Medium-size, Base speed - 30 ft.
Darkvision - 60 ft.
Scent (EX) - As described in the MM. Bogeymen can "smell" through their skin, and pick up pheromones - especially those produced by fear - quite well.
Light sensitivity - Bogeymen are dazzled for 1d4 rounds when suddenly exposed to light (daylight or stronger) and take a -1 to all rolls while in brightly lit areas unless they can somehow protect their eyes and cover their shadowflesh. In addition, they take 1.5x damage from spells with the light descriptor.
Fear Feast (EX) - Bogeymen do not need to eat or drink. They "eat" by being in the vicinity of someone who is afraid, devouring the ambient emotions. They need to devour an average of three "meals" a day over a week, or face starvation. A Bogeyman can feast on the fear of any intelligent being in combat by sustaining a grapple for one minute, being in the area of a Fear effect with at least five affected beings, or being in the same room with someone having a nightmare.
Adaptive form (EX) - Bogeymen can shift about their forms with some degree of ease. As a result, they can gain any one of these bonuses at a time:
-1.5x carrying capacity and no reduced speed in heavy armor
-+4 to all Escape Artist, Move Silently, and Hide checks
-+6 to all Intimidate checks
-Two claw attacks, dealing 1d4 damage each with a crit of 20/x2.
-A fly speed of 30 ft with clumsy maneuverability. In this form a Bogey takes a -4 STR penalty and cannot carry items, as his arms become wings.
-A reach of 5 ft, or a reach of 10 ft with a -2 STR penalty.
It takes 3 minutes to retwist their bodies to take advantage of a different ability; they can change the ability gained by Adaptive form a number of times per day equal to their constitution modifier plus one.
Base language: Common. Bonus languages: Any. The more languages they know, the more effective their whispering into the ears of their victims...
Favored class: Any, chosen at first level. Beguiler, Fighter, and Knight are the most common choices.
Level adjustment: +3
The Dark Carnival
The Jugglers, Fa'ii'go
Intermediate Deities, Chaotic Good
Symbols: A deranged clown's face, a gleaming cleaver-like hatchet, a butterfly.
Portfolio: Showmanship, salvation, liberation, bawd, wrestling
Clergy Alignments: CG, CN. Some rare NG, and many CE that actually worship the devils that the Carnival stands against.
Domains: *tbd*
Favored Weapon: Hatchet
A conglomeration of lesser demiurges animated by the Song, the Dark Carnival is a spectral construct of judgement. At the end of time, it is destined to consume all, and through its exhibits, judge the souls of all mortal beings, sending them to their destined reward or punishment. The Carnival was, however, unwilling to simply bide its time, waiting to throw the souls of an increasingly corrupt and twisted world to the devils. As it grew in power, it chose a pair of no-account, no-reputation bards and gave one a vision. A vision that would lead many to their redemption.
Acting as The Carnival's prophets, the bards (rechristened the Violent Juggler and Shag the Twain) had a hard go of things. They were widely feared for the misunderstood prophecy; they chose to tell of the darkest and most violent pieces of the revelation first, and their inherent bawdy, vulgar sense of humor and disrespect for lawful faiths turned many off. But time passed on, and at the end, many were shocked and stunned to see the two were, in fact, true followers of the Song - and that they had ascended to the power of demigodhood, although they have since kept much of their power concealed, preferring to live as much like any other mortals until the end of time.
The Dark Carnival lashes out at all that is corrupt, greedy, and noxious in man. Their holy songs, the six "Fool's Cards", are six warnings against the behaviors that will cause one's damnation. The first warned against ignoring the disenfranchised, destitute and helpless. The second warned against deception, and blind hatred. The third was a condemnation of greed and selfishness; the fourth decried necromancy, all selfish and wasteful uses of magic, and all evil thoughts. The fifth was a study of duality, of righteous wrath and choking corruption, and the sixth tied all five together, finally revealing the true nature of the Dark Carnival.
There are no permanent temples to the Dark Carnival. Rather, there are several large always-travelling canvas churches. Whenever one stops, it holds a large festival to go along with its services, replete with wrestling competitions and a large carnival-like sideshow. The faith of the Dark Carnival is still not widely known; most people only hear the darkest of their hymns, and see their highly theatrical antics as praising the darkness that they war against.
In truth, there are a small number of ignorant sub-cults that see the Dark Carnival as a construct of the devils, who take only a few of the hymns and twist them to create a culture of violence and death. These evil groups are agressively hunted out and purged by several faiths, including the temples of Lord Alice.
"(Screw) the devils!
(Screw) that (feces)!
We believe in life legit!
If you're hearing what we say,
Why do you throw your soul away?"
This is awesome. I'm surprised that there aren't any female rockers being mentioned though - Joan Jett, Heart, Blondie.
Since this thread seems to have come alive once more, I decided to re-post my original comment.
I'm not versed in the tracks of the Oz-man enough to stat him out, but...
The Man of Iron
Traveller of Time, Wretched Avenger, Lead-boot
Demigod, Chaotic Evil
Symbols: An iron skull, lead boots
Portfolio: Revenge, constructs, metal, cynicism
Clergy alignments: CE, some CN and NE
Domains: Travel, Destruction, Time, Metal
Favored Weapons: Lead boots, warhammer
At one time the Man of Iron was a mere mortal, a wizard with a great knowledge of the workings of time and space. As he was scrying one day, he foresaw the destruction of the world at the hands of a newly-arisen deity; to stop him, and secure the future of the world, he travelled into the past to halt the ritual that was the first step on the dark conqueror's step to godhood. He succeeded, but something went wrong with the spell. The mystical field that brought him to the past also changed him - his flesh became iron, his feet lead, his eyes steel, and his hands adamantine.
For a time, the Man of Iron sought to thwart the plans of the would-be conqueror, but time and time again the mortal turned mobs of innocents against him, claiming that he was an unholy and unnatural entity. Even after the intervention of a paladin who was able to determine that the Man of Iron was anything but evil, the people treated him with fear, loathing, and antipathy. The longer this went on, the more the Man of Iron realized that there was little in the world he truly wanted to save. On a dark night, as he lay in the street after a final battle with the conqueror, drained and barely-conscious, he was passed by two youths who heckled his fallen state. In that moment, he snapped, and the Man of Iron became the murderous entity that he is now.
The Man of Iron stalks the countryside, lightning spewing from his eyes, his lead boots clanking horribly as he walks, searching for anyone to destroy. He is aware that he has ascended to godhood, but does not care. All he wants is his nightly kill, his tiny bit of vengeance on the world that spurned him.
Followers of the Man of Iron are themselves murderers, believing that if they aid him in his quest for vengeance, they will themselves be spared his wrath. More devout followers take the half-construct template as a sign of their devotion.
so who is the over god of rock?
Answered this one a couple of pages ago, but I suppose a little repitition won't hurt.
The overgod in this pantheon is The Song itself, the music which animates and energizes all life. Every one of the deities of the Pantheon of Rock knows a tiny piece of The Song, and it is this tiny snippet, this divine chord which gives them their powers.
nevermind, i got it now.
what about the devil from the pick of destiny, technically this wouldn't be "THE" devil himself but maybe some kind of devil of music, i think we should get him stated out i wouldn't know where to begin, there must be a way to summon him in-advertidly
btw i made this have fun with it
The Bong Of Destiny
Major artifact
Romoured to be the Horn of the devil of rock, it sits on a silver stand with a small peice of silver piping sticking out of its side
This is the very Bong once possesed bye the Tenacious Defenders is romoured to of given them thier Pantheon, obviously the pantheon is no longer in this artifact but it is still of great value, but must not fall into the hands of those CG or it would summon the devil again
To an evil,Deciple pf metal, or bard, the bong is a simple masterwork pipe, beautifully made but otherwise mundane - annoyingly all drugs that go into this end up doing 5d4 intelligence damage for 3d8 hours, yet the negativer you take from intelligence is transfered over as a tempory misc bonus to perform vocals and/or perform string, depending which you have the highest (this jacks voice went up and kage's playing went up) a fort save DC 20 is needed in order to obtain this ability, if you fail you merely become brain dead for 1d3 days and when you wake up have a serious case of the munchies and disire to eat for 2d4 hours
Those that smoke from it gain the ability to use all instruments and play with incredible speed giving them an extra +3 to perform string dispite thier class
Rituals:
as many of you know the Tenacious Defenders attempted a ritual to make a masterpeice.
although i am not quite sure how rituals and sacrifices and such would work but there is a table from the BoVD that could be intergrated for this but here are some more that could prove useful
Ketchup Pentagram +2
candles +1 per 4 candles
Blood Pentagram +5
infliction: Pentagram (hands) +1 per pentagram
infliction: pentagram (chest) +10
carving: pentagram (necklace) +2
carving: pentagram (guitar) +6
carving: religious symbols (guitar) + 2 per symbol
thats all i really have to be honest, the pentagram's would only last for as long as your in there, everything else i don't know carvings would always be there, inflictions the same untill they are healed on that note heres a new feat
Willing Infliction:
prereqs: none
benifit: this feat allows you to inflict wounds apon yourself for a religious reason, such as carving a pentagram onto your chest or hands, you take damage from the carving but this cannot be healed magicly it takes you con mod in weeks to heal if you con mod is in the negatives it takes months, example: (+4 = 4 weeks -4 = 4 months) (if your con mod is +0 it will take your con score in days to heal)
This makes no sense. If you are inflicting wounds on yourself to gain a benefit for a ritual, the damage you take should equal the bonus you gain. You get a +1 bonus for carving a pentagram in your hand, you take 1 point of damage. You gain a +10 bonus for carving a pentagram on your chest, you take 10 points of damage. This damage cannot be healed magically. You have to heal normally. [Normally you would heal 1 hit point for every 8 hours of sleep]. I would add that creatures with Fast Healing or Regeneration are prohibited from taking this feat.
Forget the whole Con bonus for healing because you penalize people for having high Con scores rather than penalizing them for having low Con scores. If I have a con of 10 or 11 it would take 10 or 11 days to heal. But if I hd a Con of 12 it would take 1 week. If I had a Con of 14 It would take two weeks. That's just not right.
Granmaestro Wielstemalm(Yngwie J. Malmsteen)
Neutral Greater Deity
Fire-fingers; Fretboard master; the Neoclassicist; Appregio-from-hell(his titles run endless in various books and sources)
Symbol:A miniature guitar or a black pick
Portfolio:Music,Bards,Speed,Stories
Cleric alignments:Any. All kinds of people have been known to follow the Granmaster
Domains:
Favored weapon:Electric Guitar
One of the oldest and admittedly one of the greatest(if not THE GREATEST) deities of rock and metal. Like many he began as a humble bard but soon it was obvious that he was different from all others. He played in public and kingdoms cheered him, for his speed, precision and skills were unprecedented. He died after a long life in which he brought back to metal the classical element it lacked... or so thought most. About 100 years after his supposed death an interplanar conflict threatened Metal and save for the mightiest, all deities stood in fear. But then a soul-wrenching solo,like none ever played in the multiverse before, split the heavens and the threat was dismissed(scholars are silent as to the nature of that threat). And in the open skies stood the Granmaestro his old guitar in hand playing and playing for the next month without stop. And thus he made his return know for he had returned as a greater god,potent as few. Still, his existence is one of appearing and then vanishing for quite some time. Rumor has it that he is now beyond th grasp of most, walking beyond the planes as an Overdeity...
These are all really brilliant... but I can't help but notice a couple of glaring omissions...
The Stone Gods
The Unsatisfied, the Shining Lights, the Rolling Stones, Mac the Jagged, Kii'risher, Woodsman Ron, Wembley Whammer
Greater Deities, Chaotic Neutral
Symbol: A pair of lips, tongue extended from them.
Portfolio: Unrest, Magic, Occultism
Domains: Knowledge, Chaos, Magic, Earth
Contemporaries countrymen, and affable rivals of the Four, the Stone Gods were bards of a less jovial nature, passionate and excessive. The Stones (As they are often known) are often misunderstood by the ignorant as being sympathizers of the darkest of fiends, but they seek only revelry, even though officially they are in charge of magical secrets. The Stones are fond of clouds, but are said to have faded from this world in a storm preceding a great battle, a fate which they seek to protect mortals from.
War, children, it's just a shot away...
Merry Jack
The Eccentric, the Seventh Son, the Third Man
Intermediate Deity, Lawful Neutral
Symbol: A red and black checkerboard with white stripes running across it
Portfolio: Madness, groups of three
Domains: Trickery, Strength, Law
Merry Jack is a young god, rarely seen outside of the company of his consort, Silent Megan; or his heralds, the Raconteurs. He is highly fastidious, and extremely unusal, but there is a definite method to his seeming madness. For so new a god, his control of The Song is impressive. He and Megan, along with many of their devout, dress only in the colors of his holy symbol, believing it grants them virility and strength.
Fairfax, the Red Hot
The Miraculously Majestic Master of Mayhem, The One Under the Bridge, Lord of the Stadium Arcadium
Intermediate Deity
Chaotic Good [Previously Chaotic Neutral, onetime Chaotic Evil]
Symbol: A red, eight pointed asterisk
Portfolio: Mayhem, Improvisation, Redemption, Passion, Lust, Love, Parties
Domains: Chaos, Charm, Fire, Magic, Trickery
In his early days before his ascension, Fairfax the Red Hot was known as the Miraculously Majestic Master of Mayhem, and did wreck his havok throughout the undergrounds of the legendary land of California. He took on the name the Red Hot and ascended with the power of the Freaky Styley and the discovery of the Uplift Mofo Party Plan. Supping as he did from the Mother's Milk, his lust for powerful heroines nearly corrupted the fledging god. He is said to have fallen deeply before returning from Under the Bridge, having invented the Blood Sugar Sex Magic, one of his most powerful realizations of The Song. Following the uncertian time of the One Hot Minute, he returned again to bring the Californication to lead his faithful By the Way. Having cemented his place in the pantheon, he constructed the fabulous Stadium Arcadium, to where he has retreated in solitude.
Destruction leads to a very rough road, but it also breeds creation...
