Gods of the Lizardfolk [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-27-07, 09:30 PM I'm making a Lizardfolk Cleric and I'm curious: What gods do they typically worship and where can I find info on them? I tried looking in the books and on google but I havn't found much. If anyone could fill me in with some info on these I would be very grateful.

03-27-07, 10:11 PM The main lizardfolk god is Semuanya, who lives in a bog in the Outlands. However, the demon lord Sess'innek corrupts lizardfolk to his worship where he can; those that follow him are more intelligent and have greater knowledge of technology (the lizard kings). You can find more information about Semuanya in Monster Mythology (1992) and Deities and Demigods (1980). You can probably get them on Amazon marketplace; I would assume Semuanya is in some of the Planescape stuff, but I'm not sure. Sess'innek is also in Monster Mythology, and is in Serpent Kingdoms (2004).

03-28-07, 12:27 AM The typical 3.5 Lizardfolk religion info is right in their MM entry (as it is for many other creatures):

Semuanya - god of Lizardfolk survival and propogation - with possible Domains of Animal, Plant or Water. As with most non-human deities, it's safe to assume that the deity is the same alignment as its typical worshippers (Neutral for Lizardfolk)

From this starting point, you can flesh out the other worship details of Semuanya as part of your character creation (or you can look up the sources that Singer_of_the_Song mentionned)

03-28-07, 01:38 AM Semuyana was detailed more thoroughly in Dragon #335, which explained that it was a hermaphroditic being mated to another equally hermaphroditic being called Kecuala. Kecuala made the error of concentrating on thought and consciousness rather than relying on instinct and nature, and thought so hard that it split into two beings, male and female. These beings were the first of the lizardfolk, and ever since then they've tried to regain their original innocence, emulating Semuyana, their deity and the former mate of the being that brought them into existence.

Priests of Semuyana are generally druids.

Sess'inek is a demon lord who rejected the Blood War, concerned mostly with spreading his cult among lizardfolk. He's also served by many khaasta. He has created many half-fiendish lizardfolk called lizard kings in order to lead his cultists on the Material Plane.
