| malykoth01-28-07, 01:39 PM | The "good lolth" thread got me thinking...what would other deities look like in a flipside/bizzaro/opposite multiverse? Here's a few ideas, feel free to add or give your own versions. Some Core Gods: Boccob (N) The Mage Slayer, the Burner of Books - This deity wages an ongoing crusade against those who would wield the arcane arts. Good, bad, it matters not...those who follow this faith believe magic should be exclusively in the hands of the gods and their direct, authorized servants (clerics). He is often portrayed as a stooped, withered man, hairless, with gray robes and an iron cane. Whenever possible, arcane spell users are executed on his high holy day. If no such heretic is available, they'll settle for destroying any type of arcane item or book, even if just in effigy. Corellon Larethian (LE) The Unbreaking, the Divine Emperor - The Iron Church of Corellon is the most influential of the faiths that make up the Elvish Reich. It is his will that makes the elvish war drums pound. Corellon's divine edict is for the elves to go forth and conquer all of creation. Those races that prove useful are enslaved, those that don't are subject to genocide (as was the fate of the pacifist drow). He is always depicted in his featureless, plain, full-plate armor of black iron. Ehlonna (NE) The Killing Shadow, the Silent Blade - The patron deity of thieves and assassins. Her faithful stalk the backroads, alleys and rooftops, forcing those they find to "donate" to the church...or face their doom. Shadowy organizations that wish a quick, efficient assassination always contact this church. She is always depicted with a beautiful, young body, but her face is said to be hideous, and hidden behind a leather mask. Animals are sometimes tortured in her name. Her clergy takes special joy in slaying unicorns. Gruumsh (CG*) The Trickster, Orc-Shield, the Unlucky - Gruumsh is portrayed as a shape-shifting, clever, fun-loving young orc, with a lanky, handsome build (for an orc), and a well of stars blazing in both his eyes. It is by his will and power, and the resourcefulness and wit of his clergy, that the orcish people have not fallen completely under the heel of the Elvish Reich. He is a known womanizer, but often falls under their wiles as well. He was once almost caught by the elven god of prostitues and vice, Sehanine Lust-Touch, and had to cut off a certain part of his body to escape...luckily, being a god, he was able to reattach it later after a series of adventures to get it back. Hextor (NG*) The Kind, The Healer - The white and gray clad servants of Hextor are always welcome where ever they go. They offer their healing services to any in need, and take sacred oathes to bring harm to none. Hextor is often shown as a smiling youth dressed in shimmering white robes. He is associated with white roses and doves. All who serve him are complete pacifists, even refusing to eat meat. Temples to Hextor are always used as hospitals, though they can also be orphanages, homes for the elderly, and hospices for the poor. Kord (LE) The End of All, the Last Voice - Kord is the god of entropy, death and weakness. It is his will that all things wither, die and disintegrate in time, and it is said he will be the one to snuff the final light of reality when the multiverse breaths its last at the end of time. He is a thin, almost lich-like figure...with sallow skin stretched tight over a bony frame, and either naked or dressed in brown tatters. Dust slowly falls continuously around him in large flakes, but no breeze blows or sound is heard. Obad-Hai (N) The Machine God - Obad-Hai is a new deity, and concerns itself with machines and all things technological. Only organics refer to it by this name; intelligent constructs simply refer to it as the Machine God. It wishes to unite all sentient constructs under its rule. It has no humanoid form, and is portrayed as an endless expance of gears, pistons, wires, lights and vast metal frameworks. It has no use for organic creatures, and will ignore them if they don't prove to be obstacles to its plans. Those that interfere with the will of the Machine God and its servants are removed as quickly and efficiently as possible. So far, its goal seems to be just to expand its power-base and cause more intelligent constructs to be created. St. Vecna (NG) The Closer of Tombs - This demigod is the patron of those who would slay the undead. Said to be a young gravedigger in life who lead a revolt against a powerful necromancer, he eventually formed a powerful cadre of righteous undead-slayers. Upon his death, the gods were so impressed they deified him. He teaches any who would learn all the techniques to send the restless dead to their final reward. He is portrayed as a handsome man, with blond hair and sad eyes. He holds a mace in one hand and a sword in the other, and stands in a constant rain of holy water. *yeah...they don't have exactly "opposite" alignments, but I don't think that's always required. |
| Chrys01-28-07, 05:56 PM | Nice :D Corellon Larethian (LE) The Unbreaking, the Divine Emperor - The Iron Church of Corellon is the most influential of the faiths that make up the Elvish Reich. I love this one |
| malykoth01-28-07, 07:24 PM | Erythnul (LG) Of the Shining Host, the Lion-Heart - This valiant god is the defender of all that is good and kind. He appears as a powerful man dressed in armor of light and silver. He is the parton of all paladins, and often sends his followers out into the world to right wrongs and defeat the wicked. Eagles and lions are holy to him, and his favored weapon is the morningstar. Fharlanglhn (LN*) The Unmoving, the City Father - It is said Fharlanglhn laid the first cornerstone on the first building in creation. He is the patron of all cities, and the father of civilization. Some believe if he ever turned his attention from a city, it would collapse instantly, so festivals and other entertainments are often put on to entertain him. He appears as an older man dressed like a wealthy merchant, standing in a short, squat, stone tower. He holds a seal of office in one hand and a key in the other. His temples often double as city halls. Strangely, he is also patron of prisons, and his temples can also sometimes double as such. Garl Coaldust (NE) The Mirthless - The dour and taciturn patron of the dour and taciturn gnomish race. He hates the light, and all things of beauty and joy. He is often depicted as a thin, very dirty gnome with a fierce scowl. He governs endurance, work, pain, sorrow and blacksmiths (and, yes, his symbol is a lump of coal). For all this, he is said to covet the goddess Wee Jas, wishing to make her his queen. Heironeous (NE*) The Shrewed, the Cruel - Heironeous believes in advancement by any means necessary. He advocates every dirty trick in the book. Only results are important, and the ends always justify the means. He takes special favor in dirty politicians and those who abuse their power once they gain it. He hates his weak, kind half-brother, Hextor. He is depicted as a pasty, sardonic man in dark purple robes. Flies and weasles are sacred to him. His cult is small, but influential. Moradin (CE) The Soul Eater, the Ravager - The insane god of the dark dwarves. This monstrous being commands his folk to capture as many sentient sacrifices as possible, to feed his never ending hunger. Each filthy dwarven warren has a temple of Moradin at its evil heart, where the sacrifices are tortured and then consigned to the fires of his hearth, to be burned alive. It is madness to look upon him, so he is usually depicted as an open mouth full of black, cracked teeth and red flames. Nerull (NG) The Sower of Life, the Springchild - The god of spring, life and birth. He is said to personally attend to the birth of all things, and to protect the young and innocent. He is often depicted as a child, surrounded by a number of baby animals. Flowers spring up in his wake, and birdsong fills the bright, clean air whenever he passes. In some cultures he is also the god of agriculture. Cuthbert (CN) The Twisted, the Vengeful - Little is known of this god, save his followers are all clearly mad. Easily angered, they descend in a mob on any they perceive as a foe (whether they are actually a foe or not), giving no quarter and showing no mercy, even beating children to death with their cudgels. When faced with a clearly superior foe, they quickly flee, imposing a campaign of terror and sneak attacks. Hornets are sacred to him. His chaos cults often spring up in lands torn by war and natural disaster. Wee Jas (CG*) The Joyful, the Maiden of the Dance, Beloved - The beloved Wee Jas is the goddess of love, joy and mirth. She is shown as a beautiful maiden, dancing and laughing, wearing a crown of flowers and dressed in suggestive, diaphanous robes. Young lovers should always honor her to keep their love strong. Her faith is made up of bards, dancers, and any who seek pleasure and entertainment. Her favored colors are pink and orange, and her favored animals are kittens and butterflies. Yondalla...well, Races of the Wild kind of already gave her a flip side...Dallah Thaun. |
| navar10001-29-07, 08:42 PM | Pelor (NE) - The Lord Of Pain, The Darklord This cruel deity delights in all sorts of pain. It is hard to see what he looks like. His skin and armor are as dark as the black night sky. It is said he shuns away from the brightness of the sun. His clerics say he in invisible then, striving to destroy the sun once and for all. The sharpest knife, the fastest whip, he delights in the screams of his clerics' victims. His followers spread misery where ever they go. They prowl in the darkness of night, striking from shadows. Olidamarra (LN) - The Lawgiver, The Honorable One Dressed in long black robes and often a white wig, this no nonsense deity abhors the chaos that spreads in the universe. Laws are made to keep society functioning. Strike against those who upset the proper order. Earn your rewards; don't take away what others have rightfully achieved. Cut off the hand of the thief so he may not steal again. (Some followers take that literally.) |
| navar10001-29-07, 08:53 PM | Lady Of Joy (NG) - The Blessed One, Sweetkiss Ruler of The Nexus, the demi-plane of Joy, the Lady of Joy is Joy. Many portals lead into the plane. The Lady of Joy controls them all. It has been said people in the midst of greatest rapture have disappearedinto a mist only to find themselves on this plane. Often times the Lady Of Joy will see the pain of suffering the innocent experience and will bring them into her realm to ease their pain and save them from the cruelty of their native land. It is relatively easy to leave the Plane of Joy. If the Lady of Joy lets a portal be accessed, it can be found easily, requires no key, and you know exactly where it will lead you. Plane Shift, Astra Projection, and Gate work normally, though the Lady of Joy can deny them since it is her realm. Teleport will work perfectly within the plane as if it was Greater Teleport. No one is under any compulsion whatsoever to remain on the plane. |
| navar10001-29-07, 09:10 PM | Asmodeous (LG) - The Great Angel, The Redeemer Of all the angels in the heavens, none are as beloved as the solar Asmodeous. Justice and Fairness personified, no lie has ever crossed his lips, and any sad news he must utter is always tempered with hope. He recognizes that no one is perfect and helps those who fall better themselves into greater righteousness. Asmodeous is well known for freeing the solar Lesvistus, The Angel of Freedom, from Heironeous' prison of fire. Orcus (CG) - The Happy One, Patron Saint Of Children Orcus, one of the more well known Eladrines, is beloved by children everywhere. With a portly body and bright white beard, he is fond of wearing red - hat, coat, pants with a black belt. He minds his followers to teach children to be good boys and girls. With his famous wand, he can create anything imagineable - healthy soil to end a famine, an oasis in a parched desert, toys for good little children, coal for naughty children. |
| Bluehero01-29-07, 10:12 PM | Great thread, I especially like orcus. |
| philnicau01-29-07, 10:56 PM | PELOR-2The Blazing Orb, Lord of Dessication NE Pelor is the Lord of the Sun's Heat, he blazes across the sky drying up waterholes and killing adventurers who are caught in his light. His Priests call upon the Faithful to appropriate him with Sacrifices (who are staked out to die of exposure in the blazing sun) or his wrath with fall on them, in the form of droughts, duststorms etc. Those who die in the desert are seen as having invoked his wrath, and often arise as a dessicated one, a form of undead. He is worshipped (out of fear) by Farmers, Desert dwellers, etc. |
| Darth Syntax01-29-07, 11:02 PM | I like the concept of this. The one thing I might be tempted to change would be Pelor. Being somewhat perverse, I would keep him as a sun god, but one with a cruel, fearsome, and destructive side. Pelor becomes the burning sun, the scorcher of flesh, the ruiner of crops, and the witherer of all things. Those who do not bow before the unconquerable sun are burnt by its heat. |
| philnicau01-29-07, 11:20 PM | MoradinLE The Assayer of Souls, The Purifier Moradin is the judge of All Dwarven Souls but his standards do not allow any deviation from his beliefs, he especially considers Freedom, Free Will, and Independant Thought wrong. His Priests rule over Drawven cities with a fascist level of control, especially his elite order of purity who arrest torture and execute anyone who dares to display any form of deviance from his commands. LaguduerLG The Protector, the Liberator Lagudeur was originally a Grey Dwarf slaving in the Pits with the rest of her kindred after Moradin declared the Grey Dwarves to be impure (for claiming the right of self determination) and cast them into slavery, but then she made contact with a newly arrived race of Psionic Knights known as the Mind Flayers who taught her and a secret group Psionic powers which enabled her to free her People from Moradins Slavery, for which she was elevated to divine status. Her priests teach grey dwarves Psychic abilities so they may be ever prepared to defend their communities against Moradin's Jackboot armies. |
| malykoth01-29-07, 11:21 PM | Chauntea (NE) The Despoiler, the Rotting One - This twisted mother goddess is the source of all filth, disease and decay. She is worshipped by dark druids with blood soaked rites and raises the dead in mockery of the living that she so despises. She is depicted as a bloated corpse, dripping black ichor from her many seeping sores. Dead birds, maggots and swarms of mosquitoes are also signs of her faith. Her sacrifices are either hung upside down and hacked to death by her druids, or buried alive in pits that have been filled with offal and sewage. Ilmater (CE) Father of Greed, the Decandent - The ultimate hedonist; this power revels in the aquisition of wealth and luxury. He personifies sloth, greed and immorality. His churches also serve as casinos, brothels, and money-lenders. He takes the form of a fat man in rich robes. Behind him is an endless expanse of precious metals, gems and food; before him is an endless expanse of starving children. His sacrifices are held in secret; poor folk kidnapped off the street and put in cages to starve to death, food and drink just out of reach. Malar (CG*) Fey Friend, Prince of Flowers - This puckish fellow often takes the form of a halfling or pixie. He is a fey-like deity, the closest thing the pixies and other sprites have to a racial god, though few actually worship him. Half-fey and feytouched folk give him much regard. He is fast friends with Gruumsh. He takes very little seriously, and has a musical laugh that sounds like tiny bells. Oghma (CN) The Mindless, the Gibbering Jester - This is another power of the Chaos cults. It is said he is senseless and uncaring, but still certain mad hermits and fevered prophets claim to hear his divine ramblings, and seek to decipher them as best they can. He sometimes takes the appearance of a jester in tattered, stained motley, drooling and lurching about as he screams and gibbers nonsense...nonsense to all but his equally mad followers, that is. Selûne (LE) The Uncaring Sun, the Burning Eye - This goddess is the cruel burning sun of the desert. The bedouins and other desert folk try to appease her, so she will hold back the worst of her relentless heat and light. If not appeased, she will destroying the world in flames. She demands her sacrifices be staked out in the hottest wastes, so she can watch them die slowly from her golden chariot. Umberlee (NG*) The Blessed Queen, the Wave Tamer - Friend to all sailors and fishermen, this gentle goddess calms the worst storms and fills the nets with fish. She is depicted as a young woman with blue-green hair and skin, and robes of flowing water. Her temples double as lighthouses, and her priests patrol the shores for those who might need aid. |
| malykoth01-30-07, 10:38 AM | The Ao (various) The Small Gods - The divinity known as "Ao" is actually countless fragments of divine power...an ancient, pre-mortal entity that disintegrated in some conflict before the beginning of time. These fragments have spread throughout the multiverse, and are worshipped individually, under countless names, as very minor local spirits...weaker than demi-gods. An Ao can be the "god" of a particular spring, or crossroads, or even a specific tree. Sometimes an Ao will adopt a family and 'protect' them for several generations as a house spirit. |
| jaw4ever01-30-07, 10:55 AM | This thread is FREAKING sweet! Awesome concept!! |
| Return of the Flumph01-30-07, 02:14 PM | Kord (LE) The Schemer -A cold, joyless god of academia and arcane studies, Kord is worshipped by intellectuals who consider morality beneath them. Disdaining physical activity and concerns with the corporeal as insignificant, clerics of kord seek to become veritable "brains in jars," and use their knowledge and intellect to enslave lesser beings to do their work for them. |
| tryco01-30-07, 04:10 PM | i would like to see the god of kua-toa: blipdoolpoolp (or something). |
| WarDragon01-30-07, 04:41 PM | This thread is awesome. Bahamut (CE), the Taker, the Iron Dragon, Flamebringer Rising from his palace of molten gold in the Abyss to ravage the Prime, Bahamut is a terror to all. He teaches his vile metallic dragon children, and the few mortals depraved enough to worship him, that might makes right, and anything they want belongs to them as long as they are strong and ruthless enough to take it. He despises his sister Tiamat and their son Io above all other creatures, and wishes dearly to consume them. Tiamat (CG), the Rainbow Mother, the Generous Wyrm, Queen of Renewal and Freedom Dwelling in a simple forest glade in Arborea, Tiamat alone of all dragons has no horde, for as soon as she gains some treasure, she gifts it freely to another in greater need. She loves her children, the benevolent chromatic dragons, and teaches them to defend and champion the mortal races; though humans and goblins may be weaker than dragons, they are all brothers in life, and deserving of dignity and respect. She feels only pity and sorrow for her brother Bahamut's madness, and remains ever gentle and forgiving even as she thwarts his rampages at every turn. Io (N), the Wyrmling God, the Colorless, the Ender Born from Bahamut's brutal, maddened assault on his sister Tiamat, Io is still but a youngling by dragon standards, and even more so by those of the gods. He has no followers devoted to him, but all dragons seek his mercy when their time comes; he is the inevitability of death, and it is said that when he attains his full growth, he will swallow the multiverse, and die in birthing it anew. Chronepsis (N), the Meddler An insatiably curious brass dragon-god, Chronepsis cannot resist prodding dragons and mortals in every direction imaginable, just to see what will happen. He has been known to pester other gods with endless questions for months on end, seeking every detail of their mortal followers. Garyx (LG), the Snow King, the Laughing Wind Dwelling on the cold, windswept slopes of Celestia, Garyx is the dragon god of cold, storms, and righteousness. He works closely with his beloved mate Tiamat, to uphold the standards of decency, justice, and life upon the mortal plane. Honest folk will feel his breath as a refreshing breeze in the midst of hardest work, but evil-doers are frozen solid by it in the midst of their crimes. |
| malykoth01-30-07, 05:03 PM | Lots of cool stuff so far! Sharess (LE) The Cold Virgin - Sharess is a demigoddess that advocates the virtue of abstinence to a ridiculous extreme. Those that serve her must suppress all emotions at all times, and often take alchemical and surgical steps to remove any carnal temptation. Any form of sexuality (outside of exclusively for procreation) is a punishable offense in lands that her church holds sway, and the genders are always seperated. Faithful are not expected to "enjoy" the act, and those that do must confess, then submit to painful and humiliating "correction". She is said to hate cats, and has them sacrificed in her honor. |
| malykoth01-30-07, 05:16 PM | The Green Knight (CN) Lady Rage - This deity is popular among those barbarians that have gained an appreciation for fine weapon craftmanship and the advantages of good armor. She advocates a frontal approach whenever possible, and leaves strategy to those too weak to take what they want by strength of arms. Her name comes from the dark green plate armor she wears in combat. Lliira (LE) The Weeping Crone, the Infinite Sorrow - Lliira is the goddess of sorrow, loss and cemeteries. Her faithful is made up of morticians, gravediggers and those who tend the resting places of the dead. They can be hired as professional mourners for a small fee. Those who have experienced great sorrow pray to her to absorb their misery into her own. She often takes the form of an old woman in widow's clothes, a dark veil over her face. She is always crying, sometimes softly, sometimes in great, wracking sobs. Though "evil", she is not as actively malignant as most evil gods. Gargauth (CG) The Vigilant Servant, the Hound of Virtue - Said to have once been a lawful good angel, this demigod is always on the look out for those who abuse their power and succumb to corruption. He is not afraid to use less than lawful methods to ferret out the cruel and corrupt that hide behind badges of office and false smiles. He is depicted as a thin, dark young man with a faint, mischievious smile and piercing eyes. The bat is sacred to him. Eldath (NE) The Living Darkness, the Mother of All Pain - One of the most dreaded of powers, this being only cares for the pain of others. Though Neutral herself, she is often served by chaotic beings. Her cult is made up of seriel killers, sadists, and the cruelest creatures in existence. Her sacrifices, always sentient beings, can take days and even weeks to die, constantly in excrutiating agony every second. She is a pale, beautiful maiden, dressed in black and red robes. The red comes from her countless victims. Spiked chains...festooned with blades, saws and clamps...jangle and twirl about her at all times, and she stands before a waterfall of blood. |
| Artifact01-30-07, 05:39 PM | This thread is wicked cool. In an effort to add some spice to the mix, how about detailing well-known, iconic NPCs from Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, and Eberron? I'd love to see someone's take on Elminster, the Sourge of Shadowdale or Drizzt, Chosen of Lloth ;). Also, check out my sig for a template I designed, called the Doppelganger, for just such fun as this. |
| malykoth01-30-07, 05:47 PM | This thread is wicked cool. They'd all have to have sexy outfits and little goatees. :D Elminster would be a great lich...this could be an interesting campaign. Just like Star Trek, drop the players in the mirror-verse after a "teleportation accident". Let them figure it out as they play. Would suck for the clerics, though. |
| greatamericanfolkhero01-30-07, 06:20 PM | I know that malykoth already did him, but I wrote this before I checked, so I'm posting it as another take. Vecna (CG) – The Giver of the Gift Legend makes him out to be the first sorcerer, Vecna formed the first school of sorcery to share the secrets of the art, so that someday all may lay claim to the title of “mage”. His following, including the priests of his church as well as the mages of his order, divide themselves into two schools of thought, the “Hands” of Vecna are dedicated to traveling the world, performing great acts of magic to protect the world and show it’s people that magic is not something to be feared and the “Eyes” of Vecna who watch over temples and colleges to protect and nurture the teachings of the art. Also, one should note that the highest figure in the church is referred to as the “Head”. |
| malykoth01-30-07, 06:22 PM | I know that malykoth already did him, but I wrote this before I checked, so I'm posting it as another take. That's cool...anyone can post any variant they wish! Yours is pretty good. I like the "hands" and "eyes" reference. |
| Mookie3701-30-07, 09:53 PM | Tyr (CE)- The Clenched Hand, The All Seeing Chaos Lord of Chaos and Anarchy, the lord Tyr watches all of Toril with his numberless, learing eyes. He strives to spread his dogma of lawlessnes and "freedom across all of the world and eventually the planes. His clergy have no standard dress save the stains from the blood of their enemies, judges and others who would bring order and justice to Faerun. Tyrans have no set holy days, they willing sacrifice their victims at any time they see fit even and especially in public. Their favored victims are judges, politicians and wolves. Kezef (LG)- The Watch Dog of Order One of the three Greater Guardians of Good along with Dendar the Light Wyrm and Ityak-Ortheel The Elf Eater (Hey, if elves are evil:D ). Kezef patrols the outer planes in an endless watch, protecting the faithful of the gods from the forces of entropy in the Multiverse. It is said that when Toril was young, Kezef drove of the mad god Tyr who saught to seed the home planes of the other Gods with Anarchy. Kezef severed the countless reaching hands of the Watching God and forced him back to his realm where they regrow to this day. |
| Mookie3701-30-07, 10:09 PM | The Bane of Tyrants (CG)- The White Hand, Lord of Peace, The Shining Lord. The Bane of Tyrants, often refered to as simply The Bane, is the beloved god of Peace, Joy, Love, Freedom and Serenity. He is the Patron of Zhentil Keep, a renowned bastion of freedom and joy in all of Faerun. He stands against all who would imposetheir will on others and leads his forces into battles both open and clandestine to overthrow all of the worlds tyrants and place governance under the will of the people. Unfortunately, sometimes his aim is misplaced and a benevolent ruler is dethroned. The Bane is served by his son Iachtu Xvim, the progeny of his coupling with a powerful Solar. |
| AriesOmega01-30-07, 10:39 PM | The image of a Mirror-verse Malar is VERY disturbing. I love this thread!!! |
| malykoth01-30-07, 10:49 PM | Bit of departure from the deities... The Argent Wizards of Thay have long been the strongest force of good in all of eastern Faerûn. They have lent their considerable magical aid to their (often ungrateful) neighbors, and even more distant lands. In recent years, the Argent Wizards have placed enclaves in dozens of cities, hoping to bring their philosophy of reason and virtue to the more savage cultures of Faerûn. The Zulkirs, saintly men and women of remarkable arcane skill, have lead this nation to its current golden age. All of the Argent Wizards are specialists. They all wear a different pastel-colored robe, with the color designating their favored school. Both genders shave their heads, but do not mar their bodies in any other way. Each also wears a silvery metal skull cap when adventuring or on official business. Their primary foes are the cannibalistic Witches of Rashemen, and the demon-infested land of Aglarond, ruled by the dreaded Simbul...a fearsome half-demon sorceress. |
| JoAT01-30-07, 11:41 PM | This is just too cool - I had to make an addition; Not just gods and monsters show a dark opposite in the Mirrorverse - I hope no-one minds this alternate plane. The Crimson Flow of the Lifestream It is the beginning and the end. It is the essence of all life. It is the crimson stream that binds all life together. The Lifestream exists within the space between planes, and ties all life together. Whenever a living character moves through an interdimensional portal or projects her spirit to another another plane, she travels through the Lifestream. The Lifestream exists as a great, eternally flowing stream of red liquid, constantly pushing travelers towards their destinations. This liquid is without smell or flavor, and supports all forms of life - while within it, no living being need worry about food or drink. In the distance, the red darkens to a deep crimson, and swirls in dangerously swift and erratic patterns. Occasional bits of of still living plants and trees float through this unending stream, often growing to sizes of astronomical proportions, and the near-dead bodies of the eternal gods spasm and shudder in their never ending death-throws. Both planar travelers and refugees from other planes call the Lifestream home. The most prominent denizens of the Lifrestream are the begin Illithids, once rulers of an empire that spanned worlds, now banished to the Lifestream by their vile creations, the Gith. The Lifestream is coterminous with all planes and worlds that contain life. Those worlds inhabited soley by constructs and undead cannot be reached via the Lifstream (as well as whichever creatures the DM singles out as not living), and such beings cannot enter the Lifestream. If a creature dies within the Lifestream, it's corpse vanishes to the last location outside of the Lifestream it occupied. The Lifestream has the following traits: Semi-Subjective Directional Gravity: The strength of gravity on this plane is same as on the Material Plane, but each individual chooses the direction of gravity’s pull, though each surface maintains it's own objective gravity (thus, while subjective for planar travelers, gravity is objective for unattended objects). Characters in the Lifestream move by swimming along in the fluid substance of the plane, moving at their normal swim speed, or making Swim checks as normal. In addition, those with a goal laid out before entering the plane (such as via a spell) are automatically swept towards that goal at the rate of 150 feet per round. Normal, Flowing time: Time within the Lifestream passes at its normal rate. However, all biological functions, are speed up by a factor of roughly six. As the plane provides for food and drink, this only applies to processes such as aging and fatigue. Most beings within the Lifestream live on a 4 hour cycle, being awake for 3, and sleeping for 1. Mildly Positive and Negative Dominant: While on the whole, the Lifestream has no dominant traits the encompass the entire plane, areas with either the positive or negative dominant traits are common, about as much so as lakes, rivers and oceans on the Prime Material Plane. Normal Magic |
| kirellagen01-30-07, 11:44 PM | Blibdoolpoolp (LG), The Sea Mother, Shining Beacon Blibdoolpoolp is the goddess of the Kuo-Toa, an ancient race of marine peoples famous for their willingness to guide lost ships to shore. Her goal is to make the waves safe for all to travel on, and her floating temples provide welcome shelter to all but the biggest ships. Her xenophilic clerics love to learn about other good deities practices, and will sometimes venerate their favorite land deities along with their mistress. Blibdoolpoolp appears as a 20 foot tall lobster with a human female's head and arms, and she resides in a glowing temple in the Elemental Plane of Water. |
| malykoth01-31-07, 12:05 AM | Blibdoolpoolp (LG), The Sea Mother, Shining Beacon I picture Dr. Zoidberg as one of her priests, "Come in, come in...dock your ship and have a nosh, why not? Now, perhaps you'll be telling me about your god, you will?" Oh, and the description? Freaky but cool! Strangest looking good deity ever! |
| malykoth01-31-07, 12:09 AM | Talona (LG) The Divine Apothecary - The motherly Talona is the goddess of doctors, healers, and medicine. It is said she first learned and taught the earliest mortal civilizations how to find and prepare healing herbs. As expected, her churches are always connected to hospitals, and often have large gardens of medicinal plants, as well. She is depicted as a stern but caring matron, dressed in the local style of a doctor. Non-venomous snakes are sacred to her. |
| malykoth01-31-07, 07:57 AM | Belial (LG) - The angel Belial is renown as a very scholarly, gentle entity. His library and workshop are found on the fourth layer of Mt. Celestia. Though he can sometimes act a bit absent minded when he's focusing on a topic or problem, he gladly turns his intellect and energy to projects that aid his fellow angels in their battle against the infernal and diabolical. He resembles an idealized version of a wise and friendly grandfather, with a kind smile and snowy beard. Fierna (LG) - Belial's daughter, the Warrior Princess of Heaven. The beautiful Fiera uses her martial skills and strength to lead the armies of the fourth layer of Mt. Celestia in combat against the forces of evil. She resembles a valkyrie, dressed in sparkling mithril and starlight, riding her celestial blue dragon into battle. |

| tryco01-31-07, 02:03 PM | really great thread. loved blibdoolpoolp. This thread is awesome. She feels only pity and sorrow for her brother Bahamut's madness, and remains ever gentle and forgiving even as she thwarts his rampages at every turn. i would change it around. demons are now angels, and angels are demons. so, i would think bahamut is god of chromatic dragons and tiamat is god of metallic dragons. |

The lord of pillows is an eccentric warforged leader who advocates a life of inaction, decadance, and hedonism for all free warforged, preaching that as constructs, warforged can (after some modifications in some cases) indulge in all of the pleasures of organic creatures while incurring none of the risks. He has also taken to using a Tenser's Floating Disk, covered in cushions, to carry him from place, rather than taking the effort to walk there under his own power. The Crumbling God: (N) (Deus Ex Machina Ex Machina Dei) The Crumbling God is a defunct construct god dating back to the halfling empire on Xendrik and the Quori war. | navar10001-31-07, 04:34 PM | Mystra (NE) - Entropy, The Great Nothing This deity was a parasite who bore her way out of Shar, the Great Light and Selune, The Great Dark while they were discussing how further to create the universe. (Selune blamed Shar for Mystra's birth which led to their eternal battle, but before this, they were beloved sisters.) Mystra hates the universe and seeks to return it to the nothingness from which it came. Twice before was she threatened - once from the Great Archmage Karsus, renowned for his humility, who tried to destroy her by giving her Substance, and once during the Time of Peace, when for a brief moment the little Ao's of the world united in an attempt to raise mortals to the realm of the Divine and Mystra had to fight back against becoming Substance again. Realizing that mortals are learning how to give her Substance more and more by utilizing the magic of the Weave, Mystra created a Shadow Weave that tricks its practitioners into thinking they are using the Weave, but instead, whenever they do magic, they are destroying it. This has led to many wild magic and dead magic areas around the lands of Faerun for which the clerics of Shar have constantly been trying to fix. Cyric (LG) - The Great Father, Holy One Once a mortal declared a Saint by all the Good churches for his kindness, unselfishness. and righteous deeds to all who ask or in need, the unified Ao during the Time Of Peace were able to touch upon Cyric the spark of Divinity. As praises for Cyric spread, the devotion elevated him to the greater deity he is now today. Knowing what it was like to be mortal, no deity could love the people of the world more. His words bring harmony. His love brings peace. If there’s any phrase that can rival “I love you”, it is his creed: “How can I help?” Lathander (CE) - The Nightlord, the Dark Horror Nightmares are the bread and butter for the followers of the Nightlord. They delight in the terror they spread among the populace. They facilitate divorce, lead rebellions, undermine tradition. The screams and tears are food for their ever hungry master. Mask (CG) - The Clown, The Laughing Bard Everyone can appreciate a good joke, and sometimes a joke is just what is needed to relieve the stress and pressure of the everyday world. Spreading joy and laughter as wide as possible means suffering and sadness have no place to exist. Political satire keeps the leaders humble and reminds them of their responsibility to lead the people well. Clerics and devoted followers often like to disguise themselves as someone else and when caught “being out of character“, reveal the joke of their subterfuge at the odd juxtaposition they created. Torm (LE) - The Blackguard, The Traitor Everyone has a secret. If you know someone’s secret, you have great power over him. Learn the secrets of your enemies, and your friends, and the world is yours. When the time comes, spring your trap. As your enemy falls, you are there to take his place. Followers of Torm often find themselves rivals of the followers of Lathander in their quest to take over a kingdom. Though they can be useful pawns, it becomes difficult to get rid of them once the original authority has been overthrown. Torm knows Lathander has a secret, a particular Plan that once it comes into fruition, Lathander thinks it will allow him to subsume Mystra into himself. What he has yet to learn is the actual Plan. Knowing that Plan, Torm will be able to rid himself of Lathander once and for all. The Tarrasque Not so much a deity but a Great Beast, this strange creature travels around the world in exactly one year. To the second he is located in the same place as he was the previous year, the year before that, and so on. It does not sleep. It does not eat. It just walks around the world. The path he takes is known as the Fertile Path because his every step replenishes the soil beneath. That’s the only “magical” thing about the Fertile Path. Plants have to be seeded, grown, and harvested normally, though granted in areas of cold climes and deserts the Path won’t stay fertile for long. The people of the Anaurach Jungle, though, seem to be the ones who most benefit as the Fertile Path remains fertile the entire year. Though not proven, some say it was side effect of when the Archmage Karsus enriched Anaurach in his attempt to give Substance to Mystra. No one knows how to kill the Tarrasque, if it could be killed. Anytime clerics of Lathander have tried, their spells have no affect. The clerics of Torm have long ago stopped trying to find its secret. The clerics of Mystra are studying the matter. The one interesting fact they did discover is that if anyone uses a Wish or Miracle spell against it, the spell fails and the caster is immediately absorbed into its body and becomes part of the Tarrasque. |
| Tarascon01-31-07, 05:17 PM | What would be the opposite of Glasya, just out of curiosity? Back to the point: Demogorgon (LG) The United, Master of Gentle Tides Demogorgon is a dual being who uses both of his minds to solve a problem. He is surely almost as mighty as Asmodeus, and swims in the Silver Ocean of Celestia. His minds united, he wages an endless war against the violent Eladrin in Hell, his mortal enemy Morwel of the Court of Night. His greatest allies are Orcus, patron saint of children, and Grazz't, chaste martyr of the sun. He is patron to all who seek unity and peace in the world. |

| navar10001-31-07, 07:06 PM | This is probably the wrong forum, and I apologize, but maybe you can help me anyway? The thing is, I'm running a high level game, 20th level, and the fighter is just tearing up the place. My wizard player keeps telling me he thinks his character is useless because everyone keeps making their saving throws. I tell him I'm just following the Monster Manual but he says that's problem, what with all the monsters with spell resistance and energy resistance. He won't even think about fighting a gold dragon. How can I boost his confidence? He won't even cast Gate because he doesn't want to lose the 1,000XP! I tell him to bring in a Solar, it wouldn't be Asmodeous yet it would be a good one, but he just won't listen to reason. The druid is having a horrendous time. He's having a hard time doing all the math calculations whenever he wildshapes. He gets confused which elemental form he is in during the same combat. The one saving grace is that he likes the fact with Natural Spell he can cast spells while he's in an animal form, but he's having a hard time deciding whether to cast a spell or attack. He appears to be overwhelmed with combat actions, thus he either only casts spells or only fights in wildshape. How can I teach him to play a druid better? My poor cleric! The cleric gets his spells from his deity. That means, I, the DM playing his deity, have to give him the spells he has prepared. I give him what I think is a good variety of attack spells, buffs, defenses, and utility. As a 20th level cleric, he certainly has enough spells to play around with. He keeps asking me permission to cast a spell, and frankly that's driving me crazy. I'm thinking of using Rule 0 to get rid of that. He's a 20th level cleric. I think even Cyric would trust him to make his own decisions. He's a very forgiving deity, so it's ok if the cleric player makes honest mistakes. As for the rogue, forget it. He just sits back waiting for the next trap to disarm. Not every monster is going to be a deathless I tell him, but he won't even try to flank. "I'm a rogue, not a fighter. It's not my job to be in the thick of battle. My BAB is poorer and certainly cannot tank up my AC as he can. Sure my Dex is high, but he wears enchanted armor. I can't enchant my Dex bonus, you know." I tell him about Cat's Grace, but he replies "What, and deprive the wizard of a valueable spell slot he can use for himself, like Miror Image to avoid getting hit? No way I'm paying him to help me." I just shake my head. As for the fighter, I just can't stop him. He's Power Attacking and Cleaving like crazy. Flying creatures don't help. If he's not going to use his composite bow, the wizard just casts Fly on him. ("See, it's doesn't even cost me 1,000XP like Gate!" ) He has several magic weapons to get by various DR, except Holy. I made sure of that that so I can give the cleric Align Weapon. I like the ego boost when the cleric player thanks me profusely for the blessing when the chips are down. :P Surrounding him doesn't work because of Whirlwind Attack. How can I challenge him without being unfair? As an aside, I took a look at the new Tome of Battle. What a bunch of garbage. Give up all your attacks for one maneuver? Once you hit level 6 those martial adept classes start to lose effeiciency, more so at 20th level when the can't do their 4 attacks. Face it, Fighters just own the game at the higher levels. |
| malykoth01-31-07, 07:07 PM | The Drow Contrary to what the Commissars of the Elvish Ministry of Propaganda would have everyone believe, the Drow were not totally eradicated. A few fortunate survivors escaped the pogrom, and fled below to the (relative) safety of the Underdark. Unlike the patriarchal elves, who treat most of their females little better than chattel, the drow have total gender equality. Araushnee (LG) The Spider Queen, the Fate Weaver - The once beautiful Araushnee, said to have been the favored consort of Corellon Larethian, could not stand by and watch her children be butchered for the sin of "weakness". In a remarkable show of bravery, she disobeyed her fearsome master. Taking the shape of a humble spider, she crawled through the cracks and crevices, searching for a haven for her children, leaving a single strand of golden silk as she went. The last of the drow heard her voice in their dreams, and followed the silken trail to their current home. Corellon's final curse against his shockingly willful courtesan trapped her in the form of the spider. Ghaunadaur (NG*) The Mushroom God - This deity is not believed to be actually related to the drow pantheon, but has come to be worshipped by the drow none the less. It resembles a mighty mushroom, impossibly huge, glowing with a rainbow of soft luminesence, dropping a never-ending rain of glittering, star-like spores. Its worshippers probably spend a bit too much time in spore-induced trance, but they advocate a policy of gentle love and acceptance of all. It also gives the drow most of their food. Ghaunadaur's own people, the myconids, have become fast allies of the drow. Kiaransalee (LG) The Precious Guardian - Kiaransalee is the drow goddess of children and the home. Her faithful are midwives, parents, and teachers of the young, who would think nothing of giving their very lives for their young charges (as would any drow, actually). She is depicted as a young drow girl, barely out of childhood herself. Selvetarm (LG) The Sentinel, the Watchful Eye - This god is the patron of those who stand watch against the foes of the drow. While the Elvish Reich is his primary concern, he also is watchful of other dangers, such as beasts and monsters of the Underdark, as well as the rapacious dwarves. He fights only when necessary, and uses lethal force only when all other avenues have been exhausted. Vhaeraun (CG*) The Whisper - Something of a "black sheep" amongst the pacifist drow, Vhaeraun is the closest thing they have to a war god. While Selvetarm is a guardian, Vhaeraun and his followers wish to take the war to the enemy. They specialize in hit and run operations, destroying supply lines, and espionage. Though their motives are pure, some consider them too reckless, and probably a danger to themselves. Others think they'll only bring the anger of the Reich down on them all. Eilistraee (LE) The Dark Maiden, the Betrayer - The bad seed daughter of Araushnee, this goddess sided with her father, Corellon Larethian. She is both angry and embarassed about her "people", and eagerly wishes to prove her worth to her father by seeking them out and slaying them with a fanaticism that no other elven god can match. |
| Dracomortis01-31-07, 07:20 PM | Falazure The Night Dragon, He Who Has Atoned, Lord of the Grim Flight Intermediate Deity Symbol: A sorrowful black dragon’s face Home Plane: ? Alignment: Lawful good Portfolio: Good dragons, protection, fighting evil dragons Worshipers: Black dragons, good liches, dragon slayers Cleric Alignments: LG, LN, NG Domains: Dragon, Liberation, Protection, Undeath Favored Weapon: Claw Falazure is unique amongst the Wyrmscale pantheon in that he ascended from a mortal dragon, rather than being birthed directly by Io. Once, he was a mighty and powerful black dragon. Distressed by the corruption that had gripped his goddess Tiamat and his fellow kind, and fearing that it would soon take him as well, Falazure made a pact with a powerful balor warlock named Izurathane. In exchange for a small portion of Falazure’s soul, Izurathane used his dark powers to stem off the corruption of Tiamat’s call, salvaging the remnants of the great dragon’s spirit. However, Falazure quickly learned that living with only a partial soul was far worse than any death; every day he lived in agonizing torment, unable to truly live in his state of half-life. Desperately seeking a way out of his self-elected hell, Falazure took his own life, freeing the remainder of his soul from its bodily prison. Furious with such a foolish attempt to escape his contract, Izurathane searched the depths of the Abyss for a means by which to return Falazure to life and thus secure their bargain once again. In this means, however, he failed; even the infinite, dark knowledge of his demonic realm provided Izurathane with no spell powerful enough to resurrect the great dragon. However, he did discover a spell for creating a dracolich—a horrible undead abomination created from the body of a slain dragon. Using this dark magic, he brought Falazure back, this time ensuring that he could never again escape his damned existence. Outraged but unable to force the demon to reveal the whereabouts of the phylactery used in his creation, Falazure fled to the deep reaches of the Plane of Negative Energy, where he could exist in solitary angst. Over thousands of years, as Falazure slipped farther and farther into madness, the negative energy surrounding him slowly gave him strength. It is unknown why or even how this power granted Falazure his eventual godhood; some believe that it was the will of Io, relieving Falazure from the clutches of his torment. Others claim that a darker, more sinister power was behind the act, hoping that with his newfound power Falazure would become a powerful instrument to the agents of darkness. Whatever the case, Falazure arose to the ranks of the Wyrmscale Council, quickly recovering from his temporary insanity. His first act as new god was to destroy Izurathane in order to ensure that he could corrupt no more of his kin. However, this also meant forever losing the location of his phylactery; despite his deific powers, to this day Falazure cannot locate it, much to his confusion. In fact, Izurathane never had the phylactery to begin with; it lies in the possession of the undead demon lord Orcus, who, although not truly a god, possesses sufficient power to hide it from even the great dragon. Perhaps more than other member of the Wyrmscale Council, Falazure understands the suffering of his people and knows that it must stop at all costs, else their great race be destroyed forever. To this end, Falazure attempts to combat Tiamat’s corruption whenever possible, urging his followers to fight against her call and maintain their own self control. Followers of Falazure’s teachings often become dracoliches in his name, so that they may continue to fight the Chromatic Mother’s corruption after their death. These extraordinarily selfless individuals are often known as the Grim Flight, for although noble and well-meaning, the sight of them invokes fear in the lesser beings. |

Unusually good and kind, Tharizdun held off an invasion from all of the evil gods and demons and sealed them off from Oerth. As punishment for his kind deed, he was demoted to intermediate status, but his great power as a Greater Deity could be unleashed if his servants release him from his holy prison to wreak havoc against the evil ones in Armageddon. Primus is incapable of rational thought, he acts immediately or not at all, and cares about nothing, not even his own random others. Under such (lack of) leadership, the inherent randomness of Limbo will be forever meaningless. Triel (LG*), The Redeemed A former leader of the Nine Hells, the slug lord Baalzebul's desire to power left the conventional methods of betrayal and intimidation to making friendships and honoring deals. Increasingly disturbed by his malevolent and doomed neighbors, Baalzebul ascended to the Celestia, and shed his old name and form, now appearing as a 8 foot humanoid with great flywings. Graz'zt (CG*), The Lord of Charms A fun-loving, clever and very erotic figure, Graz'zt occasionally appears on other planes to share some private time with his (always female) followers, share magical research, or simply to keep an ear out on his main enemies: The depraved Zaphkiel, the merciless Taolsid, and the Cruelly Efficient followers of the Ice Maiden Morwen. Taolsid (NE), Maleficus Rex, Purveyor of Sorrow. The darkest plane, the Grey Waste of Hades, is home to this depraved creature. Taolsid seeks to spread suffering, pain, hatred and death for its own sake. Although few care to listen to his teachings, many cringe in fear of his five slaughters, vicious fiends who seek to influence the planes for the worst. |
| navar10002-01-07, 04:22 AM | Lord Soth All of Ansalon remembers the Great Paladin Hero, Lord Soth, redeemed ex-Knight of Solamnia, who defeated the avatar of the evil god Palladine, thus ushering in the First Golden Age. Palladine had tempted Lord Soth to betray his wife with a beautiful yet evil as usal elf, but Lord Soth would have none of that foolishness. The power of his love for his wife was the Ultimate Shield against Palladine, who could not touch him. When Palladine attempted to strike him down with his divine wrath, it rebounded against him, forcing Palladin into a retreat that allowed Takhisis and her beloved dragons of the rainbow snatch the eggs of the evil metallic dragons. The new children born of these eggs, the Draconians, proved quite capable to defend Ansalon against the onslaught of the Knights of Solamnia who sought revenge against the insult to their master by their former comrade. Lord Soth became infamous for his scar, the remnant of Palladine's attempted curse. It is said that when Lord Soth finally passed on, as is the lot of mortals, the Lady Of Joy herself gave his soul a Dukedom in The Nexus, her demi-plane of Joy. Tasslehoff We pity the poor kender. These tiny people are frightened of their own shadow. Though the Gullydwarf wizards and philosophers try to find a way to invoke bravery into kender, all seems for naught. However, there is one kender whom the people of Ansalon wish would just cower like the rest of them. This is the time traveling kender known as Tasslehoff. This reprehensible villain is more intelligent than your typical kender. As such, he uses his fear to instill it in others. Palladine, in his warped sense of humor, allowed Tasslehoff to "find" a device he created to allow Tasslehoff to travel through time. With a little encouragement, Palladine goads Tasslehoff into undoing all that has happened to shape the world into Palladine's image. |
| malykoth02-01-07, 07:59 AM | Morwen (LE) Empress of the Consuming Dark - The mysterious Morwen is the ruler of Phlegethos, the frozen, soundless fourth layer of the Nine Hells. Her realm is a dark, sterile place. None know what she actually looks like; for miles in all directions around her no light will ever shine, and even darkvision fails. She hates sound and emotion, and demands that all her "court" (her name for the petitioners) suffer in silence. Her two most powerful servants are the pit fiends Faerinaal and Gwynharwyf. Faerinaal is a seething knot of hate and rage, held tightly in check as he attends his Empress. Gwynharwyf has a colder rage, and is as comfortable with the stillness as Morwen. Gwynharwyf enjoys trying to goad her "rival" into fits of frenzy. In truth, both hate their Lord more than each other, but fear her far too much to do anything about it. |
| michel andre02-01-07, 08:19 AM | This is fun. A good source for a mirror universe would be The Ebon Mirror from Penumbra. In your posts, you may want to make note of your god's "evil twin" for comparisons sake. IMHO, I am unsure about changing the Chaos/Law axis; if there are too many changes (in alignment, gender, appearance, etcetera...), you have a new character instead of an "evil twin". |
| Janusunaj02-01-07, 01:51 PM | Boccob The caring: Boccob the Caring is known as the most powerful source for Good and compassion on all the material plane. Boccob is a Great Deity who became Exalted after he sacrificed his soul to release his master Tharizdun from prison. As a result, Boccob became an Exalted god, and he was saved from the Gray Waste by Jazirian, the Goddess of Chaos and Good. Boccob then became known for his equal respect to both Law, Nature and Chaos as tools for Good when used his newly Exalted form to forgive Asmodeus, god of Chaos and Evil. |
| Amon_WinterfallIV02-02-07, 02:46 AM | Zaphkiel (CE), Depravity Eternal It is rumored that few, if any, can stand in sight of Zaphkiel without being warped to the point of insanity. Zaphkiel is one of the most formidable demon princes, warring against Phistis Sophia, the Princess of Rage , and Domiel, the Lord of Bloodletting. Although timeless, Zaphkiel's actions are often senseless and always debauched. He resides in a layer of the Abyss filled with depraved mutations and legions of Archons. Anthraxus (NG), The Cure A visionary of a state of existence entirely without evil, Anthraxus seeks to rid the world of pestilence, pain, and suffering. With a charm gained through millenia of attempting to help the suffering, he and his friends, the yugoloths, seek to actively fight evil however and whenever possible, often using his powerful artifact (The Siege Benevolent) to randomly create bursts of positive energy, create food, or even revive the dead. Pun Pun (Deceased) No title An sicky and rather dense Kobold by birth, dedicated to his art of basketweaving, Pun Pun was never a healthy individual, to the point where actions that could easily done by a child would push Pun Pun to the point of life and death. As the hated monarchy collapsed in the face of Popular revolution, Strhad found himself being hoisted into a position of leadership, and his malevolent brother, Sergi plotted against him--and ultimately killed him, but Strhad would retain to power in the afterlife, and is sometimes invoked when leaders attempt to launch an injust war or prey on their own people. |
| Johnny_Angel02-02-07, 04:13 AM | This thread reminds me of an episode of Hercules (the tv show with Kevin Sorbo...I think that's the name of the guy) in which Hercules was sent to an alternate universe. IIRC, Ares was the God of love, and the alternate Hercules was an evil god who had stolen rulership of the gods from Zeus. |
| Meshakhad02-02-07, 07:55 PM | Shar Lady of the Night, the Twilight Protector Greater Deity Symbol: A deep indigo disk Home Plane: ? Alignment: Neutral good Portfolio: Night, comfort, protection, healing, deception Worshipers: Healers, good illusionists, good rogues Cleric Alignments: LG, NG, CG Domains: Darkness, Good, Healing, Protection, Trickery Favored Weapon: Chakram Shar is the oldest good deity. At the dawn of the universe, her sister Selune, the cruel sun goddess, conspired to create the evil goddess Mystra to overpower Shar. Since then, Shar has used her powers of shadow to hide and protect her followers. Her total selflessness has made her one of the most popular deities in Faerun - she will spare no effort to protect her followers. Shar is especially popular in the Underdark, and has been credited with helping to save the drow, using her powers to cover their escape into the Underdark. Among the tools Shar uses is the Shadow Weave, an alternate form of magic. The Shadow Weave favors spells of deception, protection, and healing (Abjuration, Illusion, and Conjuration (healing)), and her Shadow Healers are revered as healers and guardians. The Shadow Weave is less effective for spells that destroy or sap life force (Evocation and Necromancy). What Shar ultimately wants is to return the world to the primaeval void, safe from the destruction and mayhem of this world. Her followers often try to create isolated sanctuaries in dead magic zones and even on dedicated demiplanes. |
| malykoth02-02-07, 11:25 PM | Some Organizations of Mirror-Faerûn The Pipers - Arguably the single most powerful of the many chaos cults found across Faerûn, the Pipers are strongest in the North and the Western Heartlands. Many members are elves, assassins, or bards. Strange forces from the Far Realms compel these madmen to sow the seeds of anarchy where ever they go. Few Pipers last long; they can become just as destructive to themselves as to others when their individual insanities rend their last shreds of humanity. Yet, still their numbers seem to be growing at an alarming rate. The Brass Enclave - Based on the island of Ilighon off the Vilhon Reach, the Brass Enclave is an organization of artificers and spellcasters (both arcane and divine). The members of the Enclave, known as the Crafters, eschew good and evil to focus on honing their skills in the realm of item creation. Their workshops and forges produce some of the greatest wonders made by mortal hands. Unfortunately, the island itself has become rather forlorn and blasted due to both toxic byproducts of the manufacturing process and frequent "tests" performed by the Crafters. The Uthgardt Monks - The eleven great Monasteries of the Uthgardt Monks can be found scattered across the North of Faerûn. These ascetics revere the teachings of Uthgar, a demigod devoted to the balance of mind, body, soul and nature. Each of the monasteries practices a martial art representing a different aspect of Uthgar. Most of the styles are named after different animals. |
| Meshakhad02-03-07, 03:04 PM | OK, next time I DM, I am making a mirror-universe campaign. The PCs will ally with the Knights of Shar to keep a powerful artifact out of the hands of the Elven Reich. They will encounter Pun-Pun, and witness his death. I'll have to create my own version of the evil Mystra - the one mentioned earlier doesn't work for my Shar. Mystra (NE) - The Dark Witch Though the deity of magic, and one of the most powerful deities in the world, Mystra is actually Selune's puppet. She holds that non-spellcasters (including Shadow Weave users) should be subservient to spellcasters, who should in turn serve the Weave. Her followers are encouraged to experiment and develop newer, more twisted spells. All parents in the Realms fear that their children - or, Shar forbid, they themselves - will be kidnapped by Mystrans and used as subjects for magical experiments. Mystra is constantly at war with a number of gods. Azuth, patron of mage-slayers, is constantly murdering her worshippers. Shar's Shadow Weave is dangerous, for it lies beyond Mystra's control. And Savras, god of divinations and secrets, simply knows too much. |
| korax02-03-07, 04:06 PM | Sune: The Goddess of Ugliness, The Rotten One Sune is the goddess of ugliness. She hates all that is beautiful (natural, spiritual and especially facial). Her clergy is simple: destroy beauty from the face of the world. In their first days, in a very dark and unholy rituel her priestesses cut off their breasts and her priests (she has few) cut off their... uhh, i think you get the idea. she appears as a hag since hags are her chosen ones but sometimes she appears as a wretched female ape to mock the evolution of mankind from apes. while blackguards gain their divine special abilities from their charisma, it is the opposide for sune. Uglier a blackguard gets, more benefit they gain from their goddess. |
| Azar02-03-07, 04:28 PM | I'll give this a shot: Talos (LG) The Calm Sea Talos is the reliable, understanding, and patient keeper of the sea and sky. The mighty God keeps the weather of the realms calm and fair - he has even gone out of his way before to waylay and dissipate wandering storms! The temples of Talos are filled with intricate and incredibly accurate water clocks - for Talos is a diety who is, above all else, punctual! His clerics often take levels in Monk in order to find inner peace and strengthen their sense of discipline. |
| malykoth02-03-07, 06:59 PM | Nevermorn The dread isle of Nevermorn is the black heart of the Elvish Reich. It festers in the ocean to the west of the continent of Faerûn, like a primordial monster rising from the depth. It is from this benighted land that the elves first began the "Advance"...their Crusade of conquest, slavery and terror. Strong, strange magic, eldritch forests of stunted and sick, blue foliage, and dangerous beasts both native and imported can be found there. Only elves (and their will-drained slaves) are allowed on the island. Slow, painful death is the inescapable puishment for anyone else found there. It is ruled over by an elvish lord known as the High Sovereign. Assassinations are common, so few Sovereigns last more than a decade. The capital city of Leuthilspar...a grim place of gray towers and giant, black, iron statues...is home to many prominent elven houses. All the peoples of Faerûn have learned to flee when the blood-red sails of the elvish warships appear on the horizon. Not even inland cities are safe, for the elves have access to both skyships and even fearsome metallic dragons. |
| Slightly_Unscrewed02-03-07, 09:42 PM | Mirror mirror, for Eberron! The Iron Flame [LE*] The horrible Iron flame came into being during a great battle which a night hag and the blackguard Tira Miron sacrificed themselves in order to prevent a powerful Solar from escaping from Khyber. At the spot of their sacrifice sprouted a gout of unholy, iron colored flame. Both blackguard and hag were bound in the flame. A castle grew up around the flame, which turned into a city. Now the city of Flamekeep surrounds the unholy flame. Over the centuries, the religon of the flame grew in both power and influence, commiting atrocites and massacres. The Iron Flame's greatest atrocity was the massacre a thousands of the kind-hearted lycanthropes during a "purge of the unworthy". The Iron Flame speaks through a Keeper, who preaches the terrible edicts of the flame to it's followers. The current Keeper of the Flame, Jaela Daran, seeks to restart the last war and take over the other nations under the Iron Flame's banner, but is biding her time until the church regains it's strength. While most belive the Iron Flame is whoely evil, some say that the Solar that was bound to the Iron Flame with Tira Miron and the night hag, and somethimes whispers to followers of the Flame, encouraging benevolent acts. The Church of The Iron Flame vehmetly denies such claims, but constantly keeps an eye on all it's followers, trying to find and crush any influence the bound Solar might have. |
| Adrez Nesnsid02-04-07, 06:56 AM | Dol Azur: (NG) (The paragon, The Eidolon, The Soverign of Pragmatic Bloodshed) Dol Azur is the god of humility, and pragmatic conflict resolution, and of resolving disputes with minimal bloodshed. He teaches that if if the leaders of nations or organizations cannot settle their disputes peacably, than rather than going to war, they should take the relatively peaceful course of action of sending assassins to eliminate each other (or better yet, do so in person) and leave the bulk of their innocent underlings safely out of the conflict. This viewpoint angered his sister Dol Arrah, goddess of self-righteousness, impracticality, and heat induced madness. As punishment, she used her control of the sun to afflict The Eidolon with the dreaded skin disease melonoma (skin cancer). The Eidolon's symbol is five chess pieces, arranged roughly into the symbol of the Soverign Six. The chess pieces represent the way that, in the game of chess, as in life, capturing/elimimnating the King is the only thing that matters; if you have only two pieces left and your opponent still has all of their pieces, but you can capture their king, than you win regardless. |
| malykoth02-04-07, 02:18 PM | The Seldarine: Dark Gods of the Elves: Aerdrie Faenya (CE*) The Harpy Queen, Storm-Crow - Aerdrie is the only female deity that has risen above demigod status, and is also the only female deity that is not depicted as beautiful or submissive. Indeed, she resembles a harpy more than an elf, and is often worshipped by harpies. She is the fury of the storm and the patron of those very few elvish females that gain even a modicum of power beyond the bedroom. Even then, such females are usually treated as criminals in the Reich. Crows and vultures are sacred to her. Angharradh (LN*) no honorific - This minor demigod is said to be the model of how all proper elven females should act...meek, quite, and accepting of her master's wishes. She has no real church or clergy of her own, but accepts any scraps of power given her by Corellon Larethian. She is fairly plain (for an elf) and not a very intelligent being, only fit for keeping Corellon's house in order. She is sometimes refered to (jokingly) as the Maid-Goddess. Deep Sashelas (LE) The Lord of the Crimson Waves, the Shark Prince - A cold, emotionless god, with icewater for blood. He takes a tithe of elvish souls to serve him in his mansions on the bottom of the ocean. It is by his will that Nevermorn, the fatherland of the elves, stays above the waves. Sacrifices are bound, whipped until bloody, weighted down, and then thrown into the water to appease him. He is the only elvish god to require regular elvish sacrifice...which are typically failed or disgraced sailors or naval officers. Sharks are sacred to him. Erevan Ilesere (NE*) The Rat God, the God In the Walls - This spiteful being is the patron of thieves and those who work in secret. He is often depicted as a rat-like humanoid, and he occasionally gifts his favored followers with the rat version of lycanthropy. He frequently angers the other Seldarine, but they tolerate him because it is said he knows many, many secrets. He is wise enought to hold these secrets close to himself, and use them in barter. He wishes to steal the school of Transformation away from Fenmarel and add it to his portfolio. Obviously, rats are sacred to him. Fenmarel Mestarine (LE*) The Scholar, Father Pain - Fenmarel is the patron of magic, mages and also torturers. He is a tall, thin (even by elvish standards) being, wrapped in a tight leather robe festooned with various wands, blades and hooks. To gain the highest ranks of his church, one must follow the path of the mystic theurge. Every year, a grand festival is held wherein his faithful use various magical and not-so-magical techniques to torture captives to death. Prestigious awards are handed out for creative and entertaining "performances". While he is patron of all schools of magic, he favors Necromancy, Enchantment, and Evocation. Hanali Celanil (LE) Ice-Heart - The elvish goddess of winter and sorrow. She is dressed in widow's rags, and cries a constant stream of icy tears. Her sacrifices (usually surviving concubines of dead nobles) are staked out naked on the coldest nights of the year...to await her frozen embrace. Some of these sacrifices can rise as bleakborn undead, though to stop the sacrifices could result in a permanent winter, despite her weak gender and standing. Labelas Enoreth (LE) Death-Bringer, the Pale Overseer - The god of time, death and the moon. All elves who die (barring those sacrificed to other gods, of course) come to his black castle to labor for eternity. Those who followed the will of the gods closest are promised lighter duties. Non-elves, of course, are believed to not even possess true souls. Their weak spirits are quickly devoured by Labelas' abomination servants. He often sends mooncalves to answer summonings and callings. Rillifane Rallathil (LE) The Hammer-Blow, the Lord of the Forge - A god of the forge and fire, he manufactures the tools of war the other Seldarine use. He is very arrogant, and wishes to place all of creation in his forge, to remove all weaknesses and imperfections. Therefore, the Seldarine keep him busy and trapped in his forge lest he burn down the entire world. Slaves are often burned alive in bondfires to honor him, though a proper sacrifice involves pouring molten metal over the victim. Sehanine Lust-Touch (NE*) The Divine Harlot - The goddess of sex and prostitues. She is Corellon's favored courtesan, and uses her position to gain comfort and power. Entering her clergy is basically the only way a female can gain any sort of prestige in the Reich, though even then the highest ranking female is still well below the lowest male acolyte of any other Seldarine. She is, as expected, achingly beautiful, and usually either naked, or dressed to show off her form. Shevarash (LN) - This deity is believed to be deceased, killed by the drow goddess Eilistraee. He was Corellon's executioner, but failed in his attempt to capture and kill the escaped gods of the drow. There is some evidence he showed Araushnee mercy...possibly even affection. Eilistraee, hoping to curry favor with her father, risked assassinating Shevarash for his incompetence. Corellon (inexplicably) appreciated her daring, and did not destroy her in retaliation, but set her to find and finish the destruction of the drow...quietly. |
| Adrez Nesnsid02-04-07, 08:33 PM | Gruumsh (CG*) The Trickster, Orc-Shield, the Unlucky - Gruumsh is portrayed as a shape-shifting, clever, fun-loving young orc, with a lanky, handsome build (for an orc), and a well of stars blazing in both his eyes. Don't forget that it was a blow to the head during combat against Corellon which opened his "third eye" and allowed him to achieve enlightenment. :D |
| malykoth02-04-07, 09:40 PM | Don't forget that it was a blow to the head during combat against Corellon which opened his "third eye" and allowed him to achieve enlightenment. :D Gruumsh Three-Eyes does have an interesting ring to it... :) |
| MagnaSecuris02-05-07, 12:24 AM | Don't forget that it was a blow to the head during combat against Corellon which opened his "third eye" and allowed him to achieve enlightenment. Combat which Gruumsh undoubtedly won, using his trickery get Corellon to open his eye (since it could only be opened by somebody who wanted it shut). Then Gruumsh left Corellon hacking away at an illusion while he went off to found some of the dozens of orcish subraces. |
| sooperspook02-05-07, 12:58 AM | You know what? I like these gods better than I do the originals! Keep up the good work guys.:D |
| ytookay02-05-07, 01:07 AM | Ilsensine (NG) Thought-Mother, The Mindful Long ago, when the horrible empire of the Gith peoples was still intact, Ilsensine was but a lowly Illithid slave. Through chance and her own strong will, she rose to lead her tentacled brethren in rebellion against their masters and into freedom. This freedom, however, came at the unfortunate cost of her own life, but through this sacrifice she has been deified and granted the position of guardian over her people. She is either depicted as a ferocious warrior, ready to defend her people against even the gravest threat or as a cheerful Illithid maiden ready to educate, guide and tend to the needs of her faithful. |
| Amon_WinterfallIV02-06-07, 02:46 AM | Other Organizations [Greyhawk]: Copper Dragon Knights (LE*): This depraved order of knights seeks to keep the order--its own order--over any and all lands that it can hold. Allied to the dread god Hieroneious, The Copper Dragon Knights bring war, followed by oppression and slavery. Githzerai Enslavers (Any Evil): The activist Gith and the betrayer Zerthimon serve as twin prophets of the malevolent Githzerai. The Githzerai seek to anilihate all traces of their own history--both the Mindsymbiotes and their amplified psionic power, and the overly magical Githyanki. Seeking to reform history as they set fit, the Githzerai seek to warp history itself to its very foundations delete all mention of these deeds. To achieve this end, the Githzerai send their own hunting bands--rrakma, and combined with allied Gold Dragons, to enslave and conquer in their grand campaign of revision. The Golden Hands of Hextor (Neutral Good): When evil strikes, the Golden Hands are often the first to respond. Although many of the rituals performed to join the order are secret, no one doubts the good intentions of the Golden Hands. The Golden Hands only handle matters of charity, never asking payment for an opportunity to do good. The Golden Hands opposes' Zaphkiel's Paladins and seeks to redeem them if possible, or imprison them if they can. |
| malykoth02-06-07, 10:01 AM | The Radiants Long ago, during the collapse of ancient Mulhorand, one of the empire's flying cities survived by shifting completely into the Plane of Radiance. The city-dwellers then praticed their magic and experimented with light. After generations of living within the Plane of Radiance, the rulers of the city became suffused with the energy of that place, achieving strange and remarkable abilities. Returning to Faerûn only recently, the people of the renamed city of Aurora now claim all of the blasted desert of Chult as their territory. They have closed the borders to all, but those who do manage to see the city from a distance claim it appears to be made of shimmering towers and obelisks of crystal, brighter than the sun. The mysterious recluses who live there...known as "Radiants"...appear to be peaceful, but their true goals are unknown. Radiants appear human, but with muscular, heroically proportioned physiques and eyes that shine like mirrors. They can be mistaken for aasimars or even celestials, for they each glow with a shimmering aura of many colors. Occasionally one will make an appearance out of nowhere, to right some random wrong or save a traveler in distress. |
| malykoth02-07-07, 09:28 PM | Gods of the Orcs: Bahgtru (LG) The Strong, Elf-Breaker - This son of Gruumsh is the orcish god of strength, perseverance and honor. He is, as expected, very large and muscular, with huge tusks. His is actually a bit embarassed by his father's hijinks, and would rather he spent more time on his duties. Still, they do have a great deal of respect for each other. His followers are always the biggest, strongest orcs, and he has at least one order of paladins, known as the Stone Gauntlets. Ilneval (NG) The Herbalist - The orcish god of medicine, his clerics and druids are some of the wisest healers in existence. Their knowledge of diseases, toxins, and natural medicines is unrivaled. Unlike many such healing gods, he is not adverse to violence when it is necessary, and some of his followers even advocate the use of poisons on their blades...especially when battling elves. Some clans and cults feel this is an evil act, but Ilneval himself has remained strangely silent on the subject. Luthic (NG) Earth-Mother, the Provider - Luthic is primarily the goddess of agriculture, but also the goddess of home, hearth, wives and children. She is a much beloved figure, and all orcs pay much respect to her, regardless of their actual patron or clan. She is depicted as a very curvacious, voluptuous, attractive orcish female. Crops spring up where she trods, and all feel loved in her presence. Shargaas (NG*) The Huntsman, Woods-Runner - Shargaas is the patron of orcish rangers, hunters and woodsmen. He helps his faithful find prey, keeps their feet on the right trail, and makes sure the hunter's weapon is true and merciful in the death blow. He also cautions his followers to avoid overhunting a territory, and despises those who use cruel traps and only hunt for sport. Yurtrus (NG) The Talespinner, Grandfather Silver-Mane - The sometimes irascible, sometimes playful Yurtrus is the god of knowledge, arcane magic and death. His clerics keep the mostly oral traditions and histories of the orcish people alive, and are often chosen as mentors to the chieftains and leaders. He knows the story of every orc, and is there to welcome each one at the end of their journey. |
| Adrez Nesnsid02-10-07, 08:30 PM | Lunitari (CN*) "The Cyan Moon" Nuitari is the Neutral Goddess of Magic on Krynn, she advocates constant conflict between the forces of Good and Evil but does not advocate either Goodness or Evil itself specifically, occasionally throwing in her lot with either side without warning, and seemingly at random, as suits her whim. |
| malykoth02-10-07, 09:46 PM | Gods of the Dwarves: Though most of the other dwarven dieties were devoured long ago by Moradin, a few have survived... Dumathoin (LN*) Keeper of Lore, the Ascetic - The patron of the hill dwarves, Dumathoin has lost much power as his dwindling folk have been forced to waged a constant "holy war" with their cousins, the savage dark dwarves. His is an introspective deity, content to seek the answers to arcane mysteries, and urges his people to use their brains in place of their hands. His few remaining faithful, arcanists and monks mostly, hide in well fortified surface keeps and monasteries. Haela (LE) The Grim Skulker, the Lady of Shadow - Haela is a patron of thieves and those who would rather run than fight. She cloaks herself and her faithful in shadow, dampens sound, and removes herself from the memories of her enemies. In addition to some of the less savage dwarves, she is also worshipped by a few skulks and grimlocks. |
| navar10002-12-07, 06:56 PM | Halaster (CG) Any adventurer worthy of the profession will give a toast to the great archmage Halaster every night, for without him adventuring would just not be worth it. Ever mindful of the sinister plots of the evil lich Elminster, Halaster knew brave heroes were needed to be able to thwart his evil plans. In order to do so, the would be heroes needed to learn and improve their skills. Plus, it did help to have a magic item or two or ten. Thus did Halaster create the greatest fortress in the world - Undermountain. Halaster teleports around the world inviting would be heroes to attempt to conquer his fortress. Under his watching eyes, these brave souls enter the mountain fortress, hoping to defeat whatever challenges Halaster had set up for them. Those who fail wake up back home with a pouch of coins for their trouble and hopeful note saying they may be invited to try again in a few years. Those who succeed, though, come out of Undermountain with the experience, knowledge, and riches needed to stop Elminster. Many go on to join the Manshoon League or be welcomed into Szass Tam's College. Manshoon [LG] When the clerics of the Terrible Triad (Tyr, Torm, Ilmater) waged a crusade against Zhentil's Keep, they had overwhelming numbers such that the paladins and clerics of Bane and Cyric could not win. Their leader, the Sorcerer/Paladin of Bane Manshoon, knew the battle was lost but not the war. When the evil blade of a Tyr Blackguard pierced his heart, he just smiled for he knew his ultimate victory was at hand. Unknown to all, Manshoon had himself cloned. However, unlike the cloning process wizards of such power would know, Manshoon had many clones and all came alive when the "original" Manshoon was killed. Today it is not confirmed if the Manshoon killed by the blackguard was the original or a clone, for all these clones claim to be both the real Manshoon and a clone. It matters not, for these Manshoons joined together to form the Manshoon League. Gathering followers behind them, the Manshoon League liberated Zhentil's Keep, The Dalelands, Anauroch Jungle, and fought the Triad Army back to the border of the evil bastion Cormyr. Only the interference of the lich Elminster prevented Cormyr from being conquered. However, it was enough for the Manshoons that Cormyr witnessed this defeat. The Manshoon League continues its defense of Faerun against the Triad Army where ever it may be found. Szass Tam [NG] Leader of the Council of Wizards of Thay, Szass Tam has defended Thay and surrounding lands from the Rashemi Witches and the Simbul. Seeing the influence of Elminster in these attacks, Szass Tam sacrificed his place in the heavens for a time to become a lich himself, enabling him to help the people until Elminster at least is at last destroyed for good or another is worthy to take his place. He did consider the League of Manshoon, but they are valiantly too occupied. For now he is content in Thay being the largest school of magic in the Flaanes, instructing practitioners in the Art and the proper use of the Art. Szass Tam does not limit his teachings to the arcane, welcoming clerics and druids into the schools. He's curious of the rare yet nevertheless intriguing power of psionics and is looking into that. He wonders if the spottings of beings known as warlocks is the work of the Aos attempting a saner Time Of Peace effect or is it Shar in attempting to repair and defend the Weave against Mystra. That he can't get an easy answer is itself an interesting conundrum. Those who have succeeded in Halaster's Undermountain are quite welcomed into his schools. |
| digoraccoon02-13-07, 09:13 PM | Tiamat (CG), the Rainbow Mother, the Generous Wyrm, Queen of Renewal and Freedom Ha! This one amuses me as I'm musing over the construction of a campaign where Bahamut is killed in a war among gods and the PCs play out a long campaign to redeem Tiamat into a good goddess so that the dragons aren't wiped out in the god war. :D Heck, this whole thread amuses me! This would make a fun campaign as it is-- the PCs fall into this mirrorverse and have to deal with such reversed roles among gods and races in order to find their way home. Ooo, I have to write this down. |
| Amon_WinterfallIV02-16-07, 06:20 PM | Dont Let this Thread Die!! Some Racial Deities: Kurtalmina, (CG), Mother of Kobolds, Great Protector Kurtalmina, patron deity of Kobolds and a merry prankster, is one of the most jovial, fun loving deities. She found the Kobolds and led them out of their tiny mines and into the great open pastures of the surface. Maglubyet (NG), The Brave Maglubyet is the benevolent father-figure of the Goblins, and owing to his charity and constant good works, many goblins tend to follow him by example. He urges unity with the benevolent Orcs, Kobolds, Drow, Mind Symbiotes, Duegar, and Troglodytes, in their efforts to fight evil and forever end the corrupting effect of evil. Maazacorian (NG*), Sharer of Knowledge With the death of Illithisene by the demon lord Raziel (and his epic artifact, the first world, Maazacorian has emerged as the lead deity of the Mind Symbiotes--a shared collective of many races with a common trait--they have chosen to shed their former background so that they might revel in shared knowledge and peaceful co-operation. Maazacorian urges actions against the furious Githzerai and the demon lord Raziel, and also against the dwarves. When not leading a war against these threats, Maazacorian shares knowledge through her network of elder brains and attempts to advance scientific knowledge. Ssendram (LN), Consistancy The Slaad are a ultra-regimented species; rank is absolute and each slaad seeks to enhance its power so that its color might be changed to a superior rank. Ssendram is one of the administrators of the Slaad, and personally orders all promotions and demotions within the modrons. Due to the endless effort that is required for this task, Ssendram is entirely unable to do anything besides this task, which never ends--some say that Ssendram would perish if his work were ever finished. |
| Janusunaj02-16-07, 09:19 PM | Corellon Larethian Chaotic Good Porftolio: Elves, Law, Magic, War, Archery, Music Corellon is the gods of Elves. He would be the most loved of all deities across the planes if only he wasn't such a stick in the butt. He is among the most lawful good aligned deities such as Cuthbert, Ollidimara, and Wee Jas. Although still good aligned, he has been known to mocked by the Chaotic Good Pelor in their friendly rivalries in vulgar, sexual manners, that often times put them at moderately strained odds. |
| malykoth02-16-07, 11:00 PM | Tymora (LE) Luck-Miser, the Distant - Tymora is the goddess of luck, which she parcels out to all mortals. Unfortunately, she is a greedy, selfish and utterly uncaring goddess, who holds onto her precious favors the way a hungry dog holds onto a bone. Her church follows elaborate rituals, including frequent sacrifices of precious items and rare animals, to wrest even a bit of good fortune from her tight fist. She is depicted as a bent, frowning crone, carrying a huge, golden bag on her back. The bag is said to hold all the luck in the world. Any who receive even a tiny windfall had best give her much thanks, or they run the risk of never being lucky again! Beshaba (LG) Doom-Shield, the Caring - Beshaba, Tymora's sister, is the goddess of misfortune. Unlike most deities, she has no love for the portfolio she maintains. She tries her best to protect her faithful from the worst unforseen calamities. Victims of accidents pray to her for succor and assistance in the aftermath. Some of her churches act as fire departments, and in the south her clergy has even started a form of "insurance agency"...accepting a small annual fee for generous future assistance should disaster strike. She is depicted as a motherly figure, occasionally shown in iconography comforting a crying child. |
| malykoth02-16-07, 11:22 PM | Hoar (NG*) The Forgiving, the Exalted - Hoar is a minor demigod with a small but strong cult. He is a very caring, loving deity, and councils his faithful to avoid conflict and forgive transgressions..."turn the other cheek", as it were. His philosophy is one of non-violent resistance. His faithful are not stupid; they realize there are some who will not hear their message. Hoar does not require his faithful to martyr themselves for his teachings. Still, he advocates flight over any but the most necessary self-defense. Jergal (LN) Of the Census, The Recordkeeper - This deity is an old power...possibly the first true deity...concerned with birth and the start of new ventures. He has become a sort of underling-god to Auril, the goddess of Dawn and Spring. His clergy also act as midwives, clerks and notaries, recording and maintaining birth records and the census of any region in which they are found. |
| navar10003-01-07, 02:41 AM | I don't want this thread to disappear. Plus, two others whom I've noticed have not been introduced: Hextor (LG) The Hexagon, Evil's Foe The six points of light - Justice, Love, Loyalty, Courage, Truth, Faith - are the hallmarks for the Church Of Hextor. Despair not in the threat of evil for it is weakness. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Peace and Harmony are values to be admired and cherished, but evil and chaos care not for such things. Hextor takes on the holy burden to oppose these forces and commends his followers to do so as well. They valiantly fight for you so you don't have to. Kelemvor (CN) Lifebringer, Spontaneity What to make of Kelemvor no one knows. Though easily thanked for the wonders of creation, he is also easily bemoaned for the horrids of creation. Though unfairly labeled, somewhat, as hedonists, many male clerics of Kelemvor like to spread the joy of Kelemvor's creation. Kelemvor likes to experiment on creating all sorts of interesting lifeforms and see how they interact with each other. If he has a saving grace, he does not like the undead for they are decay and destroyers of his creations. |

He can't come out ahead in a business proposition to save his life as he compulsively tells everybody every possible flaw of any deal he proposes. Shinare (CN) (Shiftless One, Slugabed Liberty) Shinare is the goddess of shiftlessness and freeloaders. I'm too lazy to write any more on the topic... |
| Meshakhad03-18-07, 05:08 PM | I already got dibs on the mirror-universe campaign - at least a Mirror Toril. Eliastree (CE) Eliastree was considered the 'bad apple' of the drow pantheon. A patron of orgies and sexual excess, her followers were notorious for depraved behavior. When the Elven Reich launched a campaign to exterminate the drow, Eliastree sided with the surface elves in return for sparing her followers. Her greatest act of betrayal was to be delivering to the elves the city of Mezzoberanan, which was the center of her cult. An army of three hundred worshippers, lead by the notorious Drizz't Do'Urden, marched on the city, expecting an easy victory. But instead of finding hundreds of terrified, defenseless drow, they came under attack from an elite unit of Shar's Shadow Legion, the oldest military order in the world. The Shadow Legionnaires had already killed the cultists in the city and evacuated the drow, while Shar herself had managed to convince Eliastree that her cultists were alive and well. Eliastree's attack force was wiped out as well. With most of her followers dead, Eliastree's power was shattered. She is now a member of the elven pantheon, recruiting new elven followers. She will never forgive Shar for her role in defeating her. And I had a different idea for the dwarves: For centuries, the dwarven pantheon suffered under the mad rule of Moradin. One dark day, a few centuries ago, Moradin snapped somehow, and attempted to exterminate all other dwarven deities, along with their followers. At first, he was successful. After first slaying Thard Harr and the wild dwarves, he proceeded to wipe out nearly the entire pantheon. Only two deities survived. Deep Duerra and the duergar survived thanks to Lagduer sacrificing himself to buy time. Haela Darkhammer, the grim patron of dwarven strongholds, led her followers to safety in the Great Rift. Eventually, Deep Duerra and Haela decided to ally. With the aid of Gruumsh and the orcs, Moradin was defeated, and his surviving followers - mostly deep dwaves - forced into the darkest depths of the Underdark. With Moradin no longer a threat, the surviving dwarves settled down. Haela Darkhammer founded the Great Rift Kingdom, while Deep Duerra founded the Republic of Lagduerra (named after Lagduer). Despite alignment difficulties, the two nations (and the orcs) maintain a cordial alliance. Moradin (CE) The insane founder of the dwarven pantheon, Moradin suffered a fall from power when Deep Duerra, Haela Darkhammer, and Gruumsh united to fight him. His followers, the deep dwarves, conduct strange rituals in the recesses of the Underdark. Little more is known of them. Deep Duerra (CG) The patron of the duergar, Deep Duerra encourages freedom and individuality. In particular, she encourages the development of psionics, as opposed to conventional magic (which is under the control of Mystra, after all). Haela Darkhammer (LE) The goddess of strongholds, Haela Darkhammer is a grim deity, who enforces compliance and discipline above all else. She is not a nice deity, but compared to Selune or Corellon Larethien, she is a paragon of mercy. Consequently, she has the grudging respect of Deep Duerra, Gruumsh, Shar, and most of the good deities. Halaster and Undermountain Halaster was one of the greatest wizards in history, and probably THE greatest merchant. He created the underground fortress of Undermountain, and founded a magic item trading empire, remnants of which exist to this day. It was the proximity to Undermountain that provided the impetus for the founding of Waterdeep. Sadly, Halaster did not live forever. Several centuries after his death, Waterdeep suffered the first of many elven invasions. Undermountain was more or less destroyed by the elves, after it had been used as a headquarters for the resistance. Sharport: Built after the fall of Undermountain, Sharport is Waterdeep's link to the Underdark trading routes. It has survived over the years due to Shar's protection, and houses a major training center for the Shadow Legion. |
| Spelldancer03-19-07, 05:40 PM | I saw Sune in a different light. Sune NE- The Heartbroken, The Heartbreaker, The Veiled Mistress. Domains: Evil, Envy, Destruction, Suffering A grim goddess who is portrayed with voluminous robes and an inky black veil that obscures her features, Sune is the goddess the heartbroken, loveless, and jealous pray to. It was said that at one time Sune use to be a vivacious goddess until she had her amorous advances rejected by the Prince of Peace, Tempus, only to find him in the arms of another lover. The Heartbreaker teaches her faithful that love is the sickest of all emotions. The lures of love are false, as love seeds death, pain, and violence in its wake. Sune charges her faithful to seek out lovers, and end their relationships. Either through manipulation or outright slaying. They are particularly fond of revealing(and setting up) affairs to the clueless lovers. The night of Midwinter's is the holiest night for Sune's faith, where sacrifices of lovers and children are given to the Veiled Mistress. Sune's clerics often multiclass as rogues and fighters. (I realize Umberlee is not an exact opposite as i kept the water/sea theme with her, but i thought it might be interesting none the less) Umberlee (CG)- Sailor's Friend, Glittering Mermaid, Princess of the Seas Domains Good, Water, Protection, Oceans, Law, Charm Umberlee is portrayed in religious art as a breathtakingly beautiful mermaid with long sea green hair. The Glittering Mermaid is the goddess of the seas, ocean, and beauty. It is said that sight of her alone is able to quell any acts of violence. Her voice is said to be akin to that of a chorus of sirens speaking in unison, enthralling and enchanting. The Sailor's Friend is said to protect sailors from the wrath of Valkur, the Ship Crusher, and his destructive storms. It is not uncommon for dolphins, nereids, and mermaids to come to the timely aid of sailors, often saving them from drowning. Umberlee favors a whip made of water as her weapon. |
| malykoth03-20-07, 08:58 PM | Auril (NG) First-Light, Spring-Maiden - The beautiful Auril is the personification of hope, warmth, light and the dawn. She ends winter each year, ushering in a new season of growth and promise. She is depicted as a young maiden with rosey skin, golden hair, and eyes of warm amber. Her temples are always filled with flowers and open to the morning light. Temples often act as day care in larger communities, allowing both parents to work. Her priests bless the planting of the crops and all births, as well as marriages and nearly any new venture. Lathander (NE) The Twilight King, Grave-Tender - Grim and silent, Lathander is the god of nightfall, death and the ender of all things. He cuts the thread of every mortal life with his obsidian sickle, sends most of the soul to it's rightful destination in the afterlife, and keeps a small bit of each soul to add to his Crystal Tower. He is depicted as a stern, tall, older man with a long, gray beard and deep purple robes and hood. His eyes are only seen as dim points of gray light inside his cowl. Surprisingly, he takes a very dim view of necromancy and the undead, and some of the very best undead hunters are trained by this church. Owls and carrion-eating birds (vultures, ravens, etc) are sacred to him. Mask (NG) The Liberator, Chain-Breaker - The enigmatic god Mask is served by a secret church of very faithful followers. These men and women maintain a cladestine war against the forces of evil, striking from the shadows at slavers, crime guilds, evil cults and churches, and corrupt governments across the land. He is a renown shapeshifter, and takes a multitude of forms, but in iconography usually appears as a figure covered completely in dark gray or black leather, often with a long, black cloak and hood. He is strong allies with Shar, Gargauth, and Vhaeraun...some say closer than allies with Vhaeraun; he has recently (within the last generation) added the half-drow people to his portfolio. Valkur (CE*) The Pirate God, The Bloody - Valkur is a dark, violent power that urges his faithful to sail the seas as ravagers and cut-throats, taking what ever they will from those too weak to defend themselves, leaving nothing but slaughter and ruin in their wake. His highest ranking clerics are always captains of widely known, greatly feared pirate ships. He is shown as a tall, powerfully build man, with a mane of wild black hair, a long black beard, and thunder and lightning always flashing behind him. His faith is sometimes seen as more of a chaos cult than a proper religion, as it tends to have few (though powerful) worshippers. Waukeen (N) The Begger God - It is said that Waukeen has more worshippers than all other gods put together...and none of her "worshippers" really give much of a damn for her. She listens to the weary prayers of the poor, and tries her best to provide relief. Being a weak goddess, she finds her energies stretched to the limit to answer even a fraction of the prayers of her many charges. Her clergy do their best to provide for the worst, and often run soup kitchens and other charities, but they also try to not become emotionally involved with the masses, maintaining a neutral stance whenever possible. She is often shown as a strong featured woman of late middle age, dressed in brown and gray robes. Dogs are sacred animals to her. |
| malykoth03-20-07, 09:45 PM | More of Mirror-Faerûn Moonscar - This city is the most prominant, and dangerous, city of the North, next to Waterdeep. Found in the Iron Marches, it's really more of a very large town than a city. Moonscar is something of neutral ground...peoples who would normally never associate come here to negotiate, hire mercenaries and other "professionals", or buy a host of items, from slaves to weapons to pleasures of all kinds. Powerful bands of enforcers, including spell users, keep this policy in place. The city is ruled by a triumverate of crimelords, the most powerful being the beautiful Alustriel, known as the undisputed Queen of Thieves. Her most faithful lieutenant is Taern Hornblade, also known as the dreaded Black Mage of Moonscar. Threats of visits from the Black Mage have been used to scare children across the length of Faerûn for generations. One of the most infamous locations in Moonscar would be the Hanging Bridge. This Gothic span of dark wood is where the lords typically kill "common" condemned prisoners (important ones are given far grander send-offs). They are either hung by their throats to choke to death (none are allowed the swift death of a broken neck), or else placed in tiny cages to die a slower death of exposure or dehydration. |
| Spelldancer03-21-07, 02:55 AM | Silvanus - The Urban God, Communal Lord Huge temples devoted to Silvanus can be found in every city across the realms. It is said that Silvanus first introduced the idea of urban building to mankind, giving them mastery over nature. Silvanus is depicted as a middle aged man with a pointed goatee in religious art. He commands his clergy to work to expand the boundaries of cities, to show the urban might over that of nature. It is not uncommon for a sect in his faith to break off to form a new city. The largest, and most powerful, temple to Silvanus can be found in Waterdeep. Tempus - Prince of Peace, Tranquil God The kindly Tempus is often forgotten about in the religious texts. The Prince of Peace is said to take the form of a youthful male with a crown of golden curls. He dresses himself in simple green robes with soft blue accents. Speaking with a gentle soft whisper, Tempus' voice is one that radiates tranquility and calm. Any act of violence is said to drive away Tempus' favor. He instructs his priests to never take a life. To never raise a hand in aggression, only in self defense. And only then when all other options have failed. Tempus has a close alliance with the Bane of Tyranny and Auril, who many whisper as his lover. Siamphor - Goddess of Peasant and Slaves, Mother of the People Siamphor, the Peasant's Friend, is a goddess that has gained popularity with the common folk of the realms. The Mother of the People takes the form of an older female human, with a kind and gentle face. She dresses in "grandmotherly" attire as many call it. She is never without her trusty shawl, draped over her shoulders. Siamphor teaches her clergy that nobles are the cause of the ills in the world. That on the backs of the serfs, slaves, and peasants are they able to live their lives of weath. She expects her clergy to work to overthrow nobles, and to abolish royal lines. Her clergy give freely to the peasants healing, food, shelter, and clothing. They take on daring crusades to halt the slave trade as well. Needless to say, her faith is outlawed in many realms and countries. Even her name in some areas earns one a trip to the gallows. |

| Minister_for_Moral_Truth03-21-07, 05:41 PM | Let’s get obscure... Dawn Sorrow The unending solitude Lesser deity (Neutral) Goddess of those spurned by lovers, or who have survived where their heart’s desire fell. Immortals who have watched their loves’ brief lives wither and fade and undead who have been left to spend eternity alone pray to her, gaining solace and comfort from a shared sense of loss. Skerrit The Clearcutter Lesser deity (Neutral Evil/Lawful Evil) It is by Skerrit’s will that centaurs exploit any resource they can. The forests burn to feed the furnaces and the land farmed until all nutrients are leeched from it and left to bake under the hard sun, animals hunted to extinction for meat and their fat rendered to tallow. Waste is regarded as abhorrent, and resources which remain unexploited are the greatest waste of all. When in his aspect as a warrior Skerrit dons gleaming armour and heavy lance to charge across the baked wasteland that surrounds his fortress. Squerrik The Sword Lesser deity (Chaotic Evil*) The god of were-rats is an impatient one, striking forth with all his strength at those he perceives as foes or targets. He is loathe to resort to stealth or trickery, instead relying on his own prowess and the sheer number of followers that can be created to overwhelm opponents. Trithereon The Unifier Intermediate deity (Lawful Neutral*) The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, surrender yourself for the good of others and bear your burdens without thought of self. This is the creed of Trithereon. His worshipers and clerics bind others to toil, by force or by guile. He teaches that the finest serf is the willing one, who believes with all his heart that his servitude is best for all. |

He teaches that one should give to those who have not, no matter what is lacking. He says that one should give money to the poor, hope to the hopeless, directions to the lost, food to the hungry, and drink to the thirsty. It is said Kon Narorn is the one that gives souls to the newborn, granting them freewill. He takes a rather dim view of hording wealth, seeing it as keeping it from those who need it the most. Oh, and the description? Freaky but cool! Strangest looking good deity ever! The Arbiter would like to have a word with you Diety Name(s): The Arbiter, The Light of the Far Realm, *strange throaty gutteral sound* Alignment: Neutral Good The entity you see before you is gigantic, 40 feet tall at it's highest point. Flaps of flesh open up in front of you, revealing reddish "vents" that a regular sized human could get lost in. Pseudoplasms of shadow reach out from all around it's body and briedly touch anything within reach. Six tall legs rear up, composed of something that can only barely be considered "matter". But it's most striking feature is at it's very front. Hundreds of constantly undualating tentacles reach upwards, seeming to dance around a large globe of constantly seething plasma. This globe shines almost as bright as the sun, despite it's appearance, the light feels warm and benevolent somehow. Around this globe swarm hundreds of eyes. You see (and they see you too) every different configuration in ocular organs that you can imagine. Finally, the eyes stop and all zip to the globes front, to look at you. A thousand voices speak in your mind, all saying the same thing at once, "Why do you approach me?". It asks this gently, the voices at odds with the creature's utterly alien appearance. The Arbiter is the great sentry at the gates of the Far Realm, a heavenly place of joy and laughter. Here all things are clear and understandable. Though gigantic creatures may look completely alien, all those who reach this great realm after death can be sure that they look upon all they see with kindness (okay, I made this one up before) Pelor: The Scorching Fist (NE) An evil diety of the great hateful Sun. | Slightly_Unscrewed07-01-07, 09:07 PM | The Veil The unseeing Alignment: CN Portfolio: Ignorance, Chaos, Destruction of Magic. A god whose true form is always hidden behind a dark veil, (hence it's name) The veil is the god of Chaos and ignorance. He wishes to spread chaos by keeping all knowledge hidden, so that people have no information to base a logical decision on. He once kept the secrets of Arcane magic hidden behind his veil. However, his greatest enemy among the Sovereign Six, Kol illumine, blinded him with a mighty burst of light and tore away his veil for the shortest of moments, in which the ways of the wizard were given to the world. His followers go on missions to destroy those who posses and hoard knowledge. These missions are surprisingly varied. Priests of The Veil will burn down a library one day, kill a secret-keeping crime lord the next, and end the week by intercepting and destroying sensitive documents stolen by a spy. The priests try their best to be ignorant of the information they destroy, which often leads to missed opportunities for priests of the veil. |
| Ouranos Harpy07-02-07, 06:19 PM | I'm going to do in an alternative version of Lolth [That is to say, one different from the thread that inspired this topic] Lolth Bodhisattva of the eight hands Alignment: LG Portfolio: Destiny, Law, Community "We are never alone. We are never forgotten. We are all connected. Each and everyone, part of something greater..." - passage from the Silk Sutra The Jeweled Arachnid preaches to her children the virtues of humility and servitude. Lolth is worshipped as a goddess of destiny; constantly weaving the fates of the Drow, pushing them higher. All beings are intricately connected to one another. All are simple strands of silk. Individually they are alone, blown in the wind and carelessly abondend. But together, they form a web. Stronger than steel and able to withstand any destruction. A community is necessary if the Drow are the thrive. Their unity blessed by kindness and self-sacrifice for one another will exalt them to higher planes. The divine weaver sits at the center of her web. Her eight hands poised in delicate mudras, her being wrapped spider gauze. The merciful incarnation answers every prayer and fills hope to her underground children. Countless monks, surround her. The same chant, in unison, escapes from them: "All are connected, all are linked. If we fall, we fall together. If we rise, we rise together..." |
| malykoth09-08-07, 12:44 AM | Baba Yaga (LG): Little Mother, the Kindly - The saintly Baba Yaga is the universal "fairy godmother", who aids children in their time of greatest need. She is said to be a small, humanoid woman, wearing a brightly colored 'peasant dress' and babooshka. One can't help but feel safe and comforted in her presence. In her younger years (if she ever had younger years), she was probably a breath-takingly beautiful woman. Now her kindly, angelic face is old and lined, though her eyes are still bright, her mind sharp and her step light. She travels around in a gleaming, silver mortar, steering it with a golden pestle. Her most famous method of transportation, though, would be her magical palace, which flies around on a fluffy pink cloud. Though the friendly, endearing Baba Yaga seems quite harmless, she is said to be a wielder or shockingly powerful magics. |
| malykoth09-08-07, 12:57 AM | The Klaus (CE), The Child-Taker The right sour old dwarf known as the Klaus is said to live on the bottom of the world. He is a wizen old creature, looking like equal parts goblin, human and something else...something unknown, but definitely not natural. He wears a tattered collection of black and gray rags, which hang on his thin, bent frame. On his pointed head he wears a black top hat. His voice is said to sound like a rusted gate, and his high pitched tittering laugh can chill the blood of the bravest. On the night of Kinder-Ward, during the hottest month of summer, he flies from his dark forge in an iron sled, pulled by a team of hell hounds. He can turn into smoke, and seep into any home. Once there, he'll grab any children he can find, and stuff them into his magical handbag...a small, purse-like satchel that seems infinitely large inside. The unfortunate abductees are forced to work forever in the mines and forges of the Klaus. Holly and evergreen boughs are believed to repel him, and so on this night families often place such greenery over their fireplaces, windows and doorways. |

So far, he is doing a good job. Legions of extraordinarily powerful kobolds are welling up from the beneath the ground all across the map, and Kurtulmak himself is wiping out gods one by one. Even the imperical elves are considering alliances to save themselves from the reptilian menace. |

He appears as a powerful man dressed in armor of light and silver. He is the parton of all paladins, and often sends his followers out into the world to right wrongs and defeat the wicked. Eagles and lions are holy to him, and his favored weapon is the morningstar. I love that one. |

Though he destroys wetlands without a thought, for some unknown reason Wastri is deathly afraid of amphibians; his symbol is a frog impaled upon a spear, and his clerics torch entire swamps before letting a single toad hop free. |

| Meshakhad09-23-07, 01:35 AM | I have an idea for a mirror-universe campaign. Our party (which starts off in our Waterdeep), is assigned to track down a wanted murderer who has been killing mages. Unknown to all involved, the murderer is actually an Azuthian mage-slayer from Mirror-Toril - a rift has emerged in Undermountain. The rift is closed when the party follows the Azuthian mage-slayer into it. The party emerges in the ruins of Undermountain. They confront the mage slayer. As a fail-safe against party idiocy, the party is aided by Shadow Legionnaires (who have been after this same mage-slayer since he killed a Shadow Weave Caster). While Shar's mages figure out how to get the party back to our Toril, the party aids the Shadow Legion in averting the destruction of Sharport at the hands of Mystran cultists. This adventure takes the party through the war-torn streets of Waterdeep, where the elves rule during the day, but the Shadow Legion dominates at night. Opportunities for players to become Shadow Legionnaires will be available. |

| Mr_Seth11-06-07, 09:46 PM | Well, congratulations. In the next campaign, I'm playing a cleric of Gruumsh Three-Eye that's stranded in an alternate universe... assuming, of course, that I can't get the DM to run a Mirrorverse campaign. ~ Xagyg The Lucid One Lesser Deity, Lawful Neutral Once a warrior of the frozen wastes, Xagig was renowned for his ability to think through any situation with uncommon logic. Situations that would normally call for magical response were handled easily and simply under his hand. As he journeyed the realms, the entire world soon learned the mantra "Keep it simple, stupid!" His stance on how things worked stayed strong, even as he learned more and more of the hidden secrets of the universe, and it was his ability to cut through extraneous layers of pointless complication to the soul of the matter that eventually allowed him to gleam the secret of divinity. Xagyg's temple shares his no-nonsense approach to life, with a common-sense dogma and hatred of those that complicate their lives with chaos. To them, order isn't a complex thing - quite the contrary. It's the most normal, natural thing in the universe. While Xagyg is a patron of fighters, he doesn't sponsor mindless brutes. Xagyg's warriors fight with their head; many are able to eschew magical enhancement entirely, so effective are their tactics. In addition, many of the greatest inventors of the age were spawned of Xagyg's temples, notably that great invention of Praalp the Kobold - the printing press. It is worth mentioning that while Xagyg is Lawful Neutral, his efficient ruthlessness at dealing with those that would harm his followers or his plans borders on evil; likewise, he has little problem with slavery or other practices that are usually considered evil as long as they are legal and the laws regarding them are spelled out plainly. |

| E'tii'stil Shadowsil01-19-08, 09:17 AM | Alustriel (LE): The hateful Alustriel is among the Realms most deplorable and unspeakably vile villains. Incapable of forgiving any slight, Alustriel carries herself with a rankling holier than thou attitude. She is the bitter queen, the unforgiving. She is acerbic and abrasive and her tongue is a viper poised ever ready to strike. Her manner is brusque, always cold. She brooks no insults, suffers no one to naysay her and hates everyone on sight. She commands the alliance of Drossnoon, in reality a collection of bandits and thieves who prey upon the weak and unfortunate. Alustriel is a woman of legendary beauty, with tarnished silver hair and an imperious haughty build. Her face is emotionless, unfeeling, amongst like a statue given life. Manshoon (CG): The wizard Manshoon was once a poor peasant boy denied the joys of a carefree childhood and knew loss at a young age. His parents were enslaved by the Hharperim and he became an orphan, hungry and cold, destitute and desperately lonely. He taught himself how to read and write from scraps of paper, and eventually discovered the remains of spellbooks, parts of which were still readable, unconsumed by the fires the Hharperim set to destroy knowledge. While he never forgave the Hharperim he always looked to the brighter side of life and became very much an optimistic, full of life and vigor. In time he mastered the arcane secrets hidden in the spellbooks and become a vigilante, opposing slavery and the Harperium at every turn. Eventually he came across Fzoul Chembryl and the two became fast friends. Wisely realising that two people wasn't enough to combat the evil in the world, he and Fzoul formed an organisation of likeminded heroes. Calling themselves the Zhentarim or Zhenters they seek to bring light to darkness, bring hope to the forlorn and strive to do good in the world. Drizzt Do'urden (LE): Mourned in his homeland of Menzoberranzan, the acidically sarcastic Drizzt is among the greatest losses of that fair jewel. He forsook and denied the ways of his benevolent race and instead ventured to the surface to bring tyranny to the peoples of the realms under the sun. The black-hearted Driz'zt is an accomplished assassin and slaver. He seeks to shackle the bodies of others through chains while deeply cutting them emotionally through his scathing words. His fighting technique is beautiful to behold and utterly deadly to encounter. It is a terrible shame how one so gifted could be so evil and unrepentant. Khelben Arunsun (CE): The ever cackling Khelben is insane. His hair is wild and his powerful body is always moving to a rhythm only he can comprehend. His eyes are feverish with madness and spittle often gathers at his lips and drool descends from his mouth. Despite this, he is among the most potent arcane spellcasters in the Realms, easily cowering many would-be detractors or foes. He is given to destructive evocations or necromantic rituals but prefers to repeatedly bash others over the head with his minor artifiact, the Blackstaff. He is open and smiling most of the time but this is always to engineered to lull others into a false sense of security so that he may scour others all the more quicker from the face of Faerun. He schemes but prefers to destroy, delighting in the destructive display of arcana. |

Nature itself cries out in pain. She is the despoiler of nature, the cruel face of an uncaring and bleak reality. She is violent to the extreme and incites strife and discord so that wars may ensure, even for no apparent reason. She teaches her followers to take everything that is before them in as violent a manner as possible and that might makes right. Wherever her clergy travels, blood inexorably flows. It is no surprise that her followers are always the most debased and worst of individuals, her flock includes sociopaths and psychopaths and indiscriminate murderers. Eldath is depicted as a stunning human female with long black hair that shines with blood, her large eyes burn blood red, spittle pools at her lips and drool descends from her mouth. It is rumored that her visual appeal is a but a veil to cloak her hideous true form. Fiendish animals, especially wolverines, are sacred to her. Umberlee (LG or NG): The Benevolent Queen, Lady Peaceful, Sailor's Friend, The Calm Umberlee is a goddess of joy and exuberance, full of life and vigor. She is always smiling and always a kind expression shines brightly on her countenance. She is the sailor's friend, the calming storm, the dawn upon the azure sea. She soothes storms and quells violent waters. She is the wind in the sails of the merchant caravel and she gifts fisherman with abundance, but always ensures that overfishing is not initiated, and always with wise and calming words, never harsh actions. She saves those who are danger of drowning and sends her animals to guide these sailors to shore. She is beloved of all who dwell underneath or cross the oceans of Toril, and all inhabitants of the sea are her precious siblings, and she protects them as only a sister or mother can. She does not discriminate and always deals fairly and justly, even to evildoers, but she is no fool. Umberlee appears in the form of a stunningly beautiful female human or elf with flowing hair the color of blue-green, sparkling eyes of one blue and one green and a ready smile. She is said to also appear in the form of a mermaid or triton. All animals of the sea are sacred to her. |

| Bull-of-the-Pit01-20-08, 02:29 AM | Grandmother Yvonnel (LG) - Abbesse of Baenre Cloister, the saintly Yvonnel was the high priestess of Araushnee, and the defacto leader of the 13 Cloisters of the drow city of Menzoberannzan. She wisely led her people for nearly two thousand years, shielding them from danger and granting strength and caring guidance. She had over twenty children of her own, but she truly considered all the drow her children. She was killed by the vicious Bruenor Bloodhammer, a compatriot of the renegade Drizzt. At the time of her murder, she had been on a personal mission to find Drizzt, and plead with him to mend his ways and return to his people. Gromph the Hermit (NG) - This humble drow ascetic has chosen to live apart from his kin, outside the relative safety of drow society. He has come to the belief that 'magic' itself could contribute to the corruption of the soul. Once a promising student of sorcery, he has chosen to study the path of the psionicist. He believes psionics are somehow 'cleaner'. Much of his time is spent sitting in one of a number of niches found outside Menzoberannzan. He is typically in meditation, or working on honing his formidable mental powers...which looks just like he's meditating. He only enters the city two or three times a year. |

| Mr_Seth01-20-08, 07:26 PM | Hansheath (LN) The dour, yet placid Dwarven god of life, Hansheath is a believer in absolute truth and the value of a clear head. As such, he forbids his followers to even touch alcohol or other intoxicants, and frowns on illusions, revelry, enchantment, and other things that muddy the brain. In his faith, life is for the living; upon death, a body is brought away from the city and burned quickly, the ashes scattered, the name of the dead stricken from the walls of the city, to be remembered only in deed. Historians absolutely loathe the followers of Hansheath for this practice, but few adventurers will turn down the free healing that his temples offer. |
| Bull-of-the-Pit01-21-08, 11:44 AM | Catti-brie (CE) - Owned her entire life by the brutal slaver Bruenor Bloodhammer, one would do well to not turn your back to this vicious minx...you might end up with a free dagger. Still, after years of systematic abuse, she is timid when confronted directly, and crumbles quickly when physically attacked. After Drizzt and Bruenor made a pact of mutual protection, the degenerate drow would often help himself to the comforts the girl provided. She had a twisted affection for another slave, Wulfgar, which ended badly when he got rough with her and ended up with a dagger shoved deep into his ear hole. Though they never fully trust her, she is occasionally used as "bait" or for less important assassinations by her owners. |

Selvetarm (LG) The Sentinel, the Watchful Eye ... Vhaeraun (CG*) The Whisper ... Eilistraee (LE) The Dark Maiden, the Betrayer ... Also... Zinzerena (LN- g) The Seeker - Once a mortal, Zinzerena succeeded in tricking another deity into granting her a portion of its divinety. She is a calm, contemplative god, and she wishes her followers to act likewise. They are given to much meditation, yoga and various mental exercises. She is the patron of psychic phenomenon and mental powers, as well as logic and science. Though it's not mandatory, most male devotees shave their heads, and females often shave the front of their heads, and wear the rest of their hair in a long queue braid. They also favor wearing a small mark on their foreheads, indicating their third eye. Color and small details of this mark can denote rank in the faith. |

| abraham02-05-08, 08:46 PM | How about the gods from dieties & demigods? |
| SeptimusMagistos02-07-08, 07:17 PM | I have a vision of the reverse gods that's a bit different. Basically, everyone is still doing their job, but they're doing it for different reasons. For instance: Boccob Boccob is known far and wide as the Teacher, the Mentor, The Archmage of the deities. They say that the god of magic and knowledge is always but a call away. Often he appears in the form of someone just a little older and wiser than you are-someone you can take advice from without feeling patronized. The rest of the time he appears as a kind old man, with a mild smile on his lips. Boccob always claims that true knowledge can be found anywhere, whether in a great library or the forest the paper for the books came from. He never rests in his pursuit of this knowledge, pausing only to share it. And he shares it often. In his disguises he often wanders the earth giving helpful information to strangers. He teaches little boys how to whistle through a grass blade, young conscripts how to clean their equipment properly, confused middle-aged clerks how to gain promotions, and beginning necromancers how to properly sacrifice a virgin. He teaches anyone who has need of guidance. And, above all else, he teaches the arcane arts to the workers of magic. |
| Drackthor02-08-08, 09:28 PM | When I first saw the title I thought the names of all the gods would be reversed too. Not like it would affect Boccob all that much. |
| Bosh_Vant03-26-08, 01:30 AM | Eris: The Inscrutible Accountant. (Lawful Neutral) Eris is part of the Greek Pantheon and is the Avatar of unyeilding and Exacting Order. She spends as much time on Mechanus as Olimpia and has her servators gather as much information as possible on all matters availible. She honestly feels that Chaos does not truly exist in her world view. "There is no Chaos, only Complexity, and a sharp mind can see the fractal dance in a Hurricane, and the social ebb and flow that causes revolutions. Saying that either is chaotic is like saying that water randomly turns to steam or ice. Patterns present themselves if you watch for them." She is famous for starting the Trojan War when Prince Paris asked her advice on long term population growth strategies, and she noted that there was a large ammount of wonderfuly fertile feilds that the Greeks currently had along a shared boarder. Poets and bards later personified these as a beautiful woman, with long golden locks of hair to represent the bumper wheat crops. She has a longstanding grudge against Athena the Chaotic neutral goddess of fools. |
