Quick question:

Does a ranger's "Hide in plain sight" and "Camouflage" abilities work on, say, the rocky grounds of the first layer of the abyss? It states the ranger can hide in 'any sort of natural terrain', so what exactly qualifies as such?

Thanks.

My best guess is that it should apply in any environment that resembles the natural world of the Prime (such as the Beastlands or the plains of the Abyss with rocks) however, I'm not sure either one of those could technically be considered a 'natural' surrounding since they are both outerplanar. I think you should use best discretion and determine if this gives the Ranger too much of an advantage.

"Natural" is an extremely wonky term, but by definition most of the Outer Planes *are* natural (i.e. they haven't been heavily modified by intelligent beings using technology). Although it would be kind of a stretch to call Mechanus "natural" according to the flavor and intent of the original rules even though Mechanus clearly did not come into being because a bunch of humans built it out of parts.

This is one example of things turning silly and sort of breaking apart when the planes come into it. As a usable houserule I'd suggest what N_T did, and say that if something *resembles* "natural" terrain of the Prime the Ranger's ability works on it.

Alternatively, you could say a regular Ranger's ability only works on the Prime, whereas a Planar Ranger from Unearthed Arcana can Hide in Plain Sight anywhere on the planes but *not* on the Prime (perhaps with a Knowledge (the planes) check involved or something).

Mainly I just like saying "Planar Ranger" (Go Go Planar Rangers!).
