What if, PC want fighting Orcus in Thanatos (consider Statblock of FC1 Or BoVD/divine rank 0 or 1), for example? or even a god like Hextor, or Pelor. How the divine power can be boosted in home plane for You? Tanx for answers. |
| Shemeska the Marauder07-14-07, 11:32 AM | There are no hard rules for this, but here's what I do: Within a deity's divine domain I treat them as nigh invulnerable, with the possible exception of a pantheon head or an overgod acting within the domain of a god that falls under their influence. Anyone else is in trouble, though a greater god might have an easier time within the domain of a lesser god for instance, but I might make them almost equivalent at that point. Of course I don't give such beings stats outside of avatars. And as a note, gods don't have any extra boost in power when on the plane that their divine domain is on, because they don't have any fundamental connection to that plane, or any other plane. As far as archfiends and other planar lords, I give them an automatic "kick little godlings and laugh at them" card when they're on their home plane, or more specifically if they're on the layer of that home plane that they rule/are bound to. Orcus will make Pelor dig his own grave if they fight on Thanatos, Mydianchlarus will play dominos with Talonas teeth on Oinos, and Levistus regularly plays loud music in the middle of the night outside of Set's domain in Stygia and when Set complains he threatens to evict him from the plane itself. Now admittedly, I don't make archfiends invulnerable to gods when on their home plane, and they certainly aren't invulnerable to one another, but it evens out the odds considerably if normally the power difference would be pretty stark if they came into conflict on any other plane. Certainly a greater god might have an easier time forcing their will on a minor abyssal lord, but like WWI's little dance of entangled, twisted politics, that god might suddenly find themselves fighting a dozen others who might have the capacity to sterilize the worlds where that god was worshipped. That threat tends to keep gods and archfiends largely out of each others way, because they have radically different goals and concerns most times, and messing with each other is ugly when it happens, depending on where it happens. |

For example, Dispater can pretty much change anything in Dis just by thinking about it, so their nigh-omnipotent. Of course, Asmodeus's home plane is basically the entirety of Baator, so his rank would supersede Dispater's and he can pretty much turn Dispater's layer into a kitten farm if he feels like it. |
