Item crafting on a timeless plane? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm playing in a 13th-level campaign and it makes sense for my character concept to have item crafting feats. However, I'm concerned about the long length of time it takes to craft magic items appropriate to our level, as we will probably have a shortage of downtime (our party has a universe to save!). Is it feasible to go to a timeless plane and craft all the items that we can afford, then return to the material plane as if no time had passed?

You could go to an "erratic time plane" where time passes slower if your DM uses those house rules. There are no planes where time doesn't pass at all. The timeless trait (such as you'll find in the astral plane) refers to not needing to abide by the normal biological restrictions of time (eating, sleeping, etc).

That's my understanding of it but I'm not certain (and I'm sorry, I can't be bothered checking right now), I could be wrong.

However for all the reasons that you want one, the slow time planes are extremely popular amongst mages and gods. You may have quite a fight/quest on your hands if you want to get one all to yourself.

Gotcha. Too bad that there's no equivalent of Xoriat in the default campaign cosmology that I know of (1/60 time).... though spending months in the aberration-filled Realm of Madness would bring its own problems, I imagine. :) Rope trick might let you get around some of the problems, come to think of it.

I could also make getting a scroll of genesis a high priority. I'd have to look at the spell's specifics, but it might be possible to craft a personal demiplane with the Slow Time trait.

I used Genesis, created my own plane, and then craft all the stuff I could possibly want there.

If you do, you might want to clear that with your DM too. The Divine version of the spell doesn't specifically state that the time trait cannot be manipulated, but the psionic version does. So you'd have to go with the divine version AND make sure that your DM would allow the timeless trait. A lot of cheese is possible when you have access to a timeless plane.

So basically what you're saying to any DBZ fan is that Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, Goten and chibi-Trunks are all Cheesers for using the Hyperbolick Time Chamber? Because that's basically what this is, a place where we can invest a great deal of time only to return to normal time without having much 'real' time been passed.

Are you gonna call Goku a Cheeser? Are you going to make all these kids cry? Well are you? :P

The Far Realm is timeless. But the only people who know how to get there is ancient elves.

The Dream Plane has a 10-1 ratio (1 minute there is 1 round on the Material Plane. But there are 2 ways to get there...
1) Fall asleep. Ths method gets you nuthin...
2) The 8th lvl spell in the Planar Handbook (I think), Dream Walking... (again I think). You will have to put ranks into the skill "Lucid Dreaming" A Wis based skill- no class has it as a class skill.
The way we hous-ruled that, is to say I must purchase all the things I need for the magic item in the Material Plane, then, I use that material in the Dream Realm. But technically you can actually "Lucd Dream" all the components you would ever need there (breaking the game).

shhh ... careful ... yer treading on game balance here.

Yep, the Psionic Genesis doesn't allow time traits, but the SRD/arcane/divine version does.
Oh well, nobody's happy unless psi- is slightly nerfed.
Getting to and fro' a genesis demi-plane is a bit of a challenge.

Lots of tricky ways to reduce/eliminate EXP costs, before you can afford a ThoughtBottle (CArc).

Gold --- I'll let you finangle that one ;)

Have fun.
