| TimelordSimone03-18-07, 05:24 PM | Hi there. Me and my friend have been making an original pantheon for an upcoming campaign, and we chose to include local gods, as sort of 'Patron Saints' for our countries. They are the least powerful gods in the Pantheon, and to a certain extent answer to those Gods who have always been such, or ascended millenia ago. Each of these saints used to be mortal, and have died, and then ascended. Joe McCommoner has absolutely no idea how one goes about ascending, and may even assume that these 'saints' have always been gods. Basically, I would appreciate feedback with regard to the following: 1) I'm running out of ideas... 6 of the countries currently remain godless, as I can't think of anything to put in them. (2 primarily swamp, one northern mountains, 3 northern plains) I would greatly appreciate any ideas. 2) Obviously these gods led mortal existences, probably (in the grand scheme of things) not that long ago. This would make these gods more vulnerable than the higher gods, as information of their mortal lives would be possible to come by. I'm not really sure how this would affect things though... And, on a more specific level... 3) Bervenia is a rich, prosperous country. They trade a great deal with the outer planes, and Queen Bervenia is actually in a commited relationship with a powerful celestial being. The country uses a feudalist system and, on the whole, the peasants are downtrodden and unhappy. Ohm is the god of Bervenia. He regularly manipulates people, and has staged quite a few peasant revolts in his time as a god. I've stated his alignment as Lawful Evil, as he is manipulating people to pursue his own ends. I'm not sure if this quite right though... Also, I'm worried about how to give the country the right image. From the outside, it looks like a lovely place, but I don't know how to achieve that with a god and an angel pretty much using the place as a battleground. 4) Eluut is a desert country to the south, and and extreme example of a theocracy. Gollancz, the God of said country, was previosly an arch-fiend of some form, until he was slain by Finwe (now God of Lagatia) who was helped by Princess Luthien (now Goddess of Avelorn). After his death, the people rejoiced, as he was an evil and tyrannical ruler, and they set about crowning a new leader. Gollancz returned, killed this new leader, and re-established his rule of the country (which could last a long time, given his immortality). Lagatia and Avelorn are adjacent countries, and are north of Eluut, across a large sea. A great many battles take place in this sea. I'm basically unsure how to handle a god being king of a country, and waging war on two other countries. I think that's all I need help with at the moment... I may have rambled. Thank you for reading this far, and thank you for any help/feedback etcetera. :) |
| Janusunaj03-18-07, 06:04 PM | Do you have a sun god or ascended wizard yet? Maybe you could have small gods from Path of Faith, in your world. |
| TimelordSimone03-18-07, 06:48 PM | We do not have an ascended wizard. We have a sun god. Well... Two brothers who are both sun gods, and are worshipped together. I'm going to list all the local gods I have. This may help, so people don't give me ideas I already have. Western Island Nations Esmerelda (N) Goddess of Mischeif She's a gnome. I have little character and back story for her at the moment. Her country is a little island just to the West of Anglia. St. Ascalon (LG) God of Virtue Human. God of Anglia, an Island nation to the west of the continent in general. He gave his life defending his country from the Purple dragon (our evil dragon god). Basically an ascended paladin. Urmm... (N) God of Sailors Yeah, this guy lacks a name... He's a merman, and is the god of the Skye islands, a group of islands just east of Anglia. Again lacks much back story. Southern Desert Nations (all three have a sea on the north coast) Prince Edge (LN) God of Vengeance Human. Prince of the westernmost desert nation of Eblan. His parents were killed by a Janni assasin (I think Janni are the evil ones...), whom who killed in a fit of rage. He founded the eblan Ninjas to defend the royal family from assasins, spies, and theives. Rubicante (NE) God of Assasins Janni. His country (Araby) lies east of Eblan. occasionally fights break out on the border. He killed the king and queen of Eblan. Araby used to be ruled by Janni. Gollancz (LE) God of Power Has been spoken about above. He has a potent link with Finwe and Princess Luthien. He hopes to eventually exploit this, and use the power to his advantage. God of Eluut. Hates Elves, Dwarves, Merfolk, and Gnomes, as all helped in his downfall. Eastern Steppe Ormundan (LN) God of Seasons Human. Grants different domains based on the time of year. Muscadet is a fairly wild country, with many tribes. Sprache (N) God of Language Dwarf (half Duergar). Morhiem is a vast mountain range. He is worshipped by many truenamers and runecasters. Ohm (LE) God of Secrets Again, discussed above. Human. Central Forests Princess Luthien (LG) Goddess of Wisdom Elf. Was killed by Gollancz. Afterward, appeared in a vision to warn the people of Avelorn that Gollancz had ascended. Finwe (CG) God of Courage Wood elf. Not quite sure how he died yet... God of Lagatia, covered almost entirely in forest. Chrestian (CG) God of... Community? Human. He takes from the rich, and he gives to the needy. God of Quennelles. Swamp (Currently only have one God... Two more are needed) Lacksaname (CE) God of Plague Half-orc. His country also lacks a name. North Mountains Jjolnir (?G) God of Storms Thor. Basically. Y'Saam (NG) Goddess of the Hunt Human. Cares greatly for her people. As a moratl, would brave the harsh cold to hunt for food, often forgoing her share, so others recieved more. Usually depicted with blue skin, and four arms. (These mountains want one more God, who I think should be a dwarf. NorthEast Plains Have no Gods at the moment. Three countries. I think I'll put a wizard here. One of the countries is primarally popualted with Grey Elves. That took me ages. I hope you appreciate it. Feedback/ideas/etc greatly appreciated. |
| Janusunaj03-18-07, 07:21 PM | A weather or maybe lightning god for the northern country? |
| TimelordSimone03-18-07, 07:22 PM | Jjolnir basically then. :) Thanks anyway. |
| Janusunaj03-18-07, 07:48 PM | WHat about an Earthmother? |
| Dracomortis03-18-07, 07:59 PM | For your nameless sailor god, you could call him Culkaot. He's the god of tritons and sailors in my setting, but it's an easy enough conversion I suppose. Alternatively there's Arkc, who is the god of pirates. As for your godless nation, if it's primarily swampland, how about deities based off of swamp creatures? For example, a goddess of crocodiles or a god of toads? Something like a goddess of fever, a god of rot, or a god of plagues could work as well. |
| TimelordSimone03-18-07, 08:03 PM | I have six godless nations. 2 are swamp 1 is mountains 3 are plains. I can probably put an earthmother in the plains And a god of toads sounds cool. I already have a plague god. Which leaves me with... 1 swamp 1 mountains 2 plains thankew! |
| Janusunaj03-18-07, 08:11 PM | What about a hag goddess for the swamp? |
| TimelordSimone03-18-07, 08:14 PM | That is such a cool idea. I may have that instead of the toad guy... It would be nice for one of the swamp countries to have a more civilised, surviving in the swamp type feel. If that makes sense... |
| Dracomortis03-18-07, 08:21 PM | Well, crocodiles are pretty resilient creatures, but other than that I can't think of anything that would represent what you're looking for. Maybe a lizardfolk deity? |
| Janusunaj03-18-07, 08:24 PM | A wiseman deity for the mountains? |
| Zicka03-18-07, 08:34 PM | OH MY GOD LUTHIEN IS FROM THE SIMARILLION YOU IDIOT! oh well, stealing names might be ok. (btw so is finwe) |
| TimelordSimone03-19-07, 07:15 AM | OH MY GOD LUTHIEN IS FROM THE SIMARILLION YOU IDIOT! oh well, stealing names might be ok. (btw so is finwe) Really!? I've never read it. Can't think where I found the names... That's so weird. Hmm... These are all good ideas. Thank you! |
