Going to be playing Zeus as a child and will be using savage species http://www.pathguy.com/monsters.htm.

I can't figure out how he looks at level one.

Does anyone have suggestions for a savage species titan or storm giant? Or if you think Zeus should be a different race please let me know.

Yes, Cronos was a titan, but Zeus and the other Olympians were different. He would be of the 'outsider' type...I would just make it a human with divine ranks and the type 'outsider' instead of 'humanoid'.

Here's some info I get for charcter creation.
DM said if I want I can use titan savage species, although I don't mind human. Any recomendations for a good thunderbolt or level progression?

You will be starting at level 1, for the express reason that you are kids. The age range will be settled by vote. And by age I don't mean level of maturity or physical apperance. I mean how old you really are. A tween does not have enough experience in life to merit 20HD. But all characters will start with outsider HD equal to 1/2 your starting age.

Any unique abilities your god of choice possesses that are not expressable with SDA, SLA, or class features will be worked out at the time you get them, which will be determined by how many outsider HD you have. You will also get minor versions of your chosen deitey's main abilities. These will grow as you progress, or get replaced with new powers of the same type as the siduation merits.

Yes, Cronus was a titan, but in the sense that the word was used in the ancient Greek religion, a titan is not a type of entity so much as it is a title. The same is true of the olympians, they were called this not because of some inherent quality per se, but because of the place they called home. The titans were simply an earlier generation of gods.

The D&D titan is not really anything like the titans of myth, they were not simply giants, they were gods. Thus Zeus is the same "species" as his father (god) he is simply part of a different panthaeon.

So do you know what your starting level will be yet?

I would say personally to make Zeus a Fighter/Wizard, since he was lord of the sky and master of thunder. In Deities and Demigods i think they made him FTR 20/WIZ 20 and his Divine Rank was like 17 or something so he was awesome and he had a +5 thundering returning javelin or somesuch, which was his lightning bolt.

We will be level 1.

Well with level 1 and some outsider HD...should be pretty powerful...Anyway I would start out with a fighter and go into wizard or sorcerer, then level them each equally.

You could try Storm Bolt from "Complete Mage". It's a Reserve Feat and I believe lets you deal electricity damage so long as you have a 3rd level spell that deals electricity damage (and you havn't used it).

I don't think I can give you more info than that, without breaking some sort of policy.

You could also make them gestalt class.

Zeus was never a "child". The gods were "born" fully adult, etc,.

According to all the myths I've read, he was a child.

I'd make him a Barbarian, but rage and spellcasting don't really mix.

Why would you 'want' to play as the most self-serving, egotistical, oathbreaker of the entire greek panthaeon?! Why not take Hades, he's far more respectable and more powerful.

More respectable? Ha! He kidnapped his wife and he only kept her because he played a dirty trick on her! He also ogled nymphs from time to time, including one named Minthe (She ended up becoming a plant, like Daphne and Syrinx did. Bet you can't guess what plant!:P ) There's only one character in the myths that you can apply the title of respectable to, and that's Perseus.

I think it was ginger or pepermint or something like that. Also the story of Persephone and Hades is different depending on the book and reference.

In one telling of it Hades did 'try' to get her to eat the food of the dead and she bluntly refused to eat anything until she returned to the surface. However she, like any of us I'm sure, did not fully grasp what would classify as 'food'. In this it was a misunderstanding on her part, not Hades.

A few times watching nymphs:rolleyes: ? Zeus has chased more nymphs than there are stars in the sky, and that's 'only' counting the nymphs. If Hades is a pervert, then Zeus is a Mega-Perv!

And didnt deny his betrayal of his elder brotheren or grandmother. I said Hades is more respectable than Zeus, not that he's Mr. Perfect...and Perseus was a human and has his fair shares of wrong-doings.

But that what the Greek mythos so grand that the storys can be retold in so many fasions....but at best Zeus is Neutral Evil.

I always pictured Zeus as True Neutral. You're right that he was the biggest pervert of all time, but he still had responsibilities to perform as the leader of the pantheon and he performed them well. He had his moments of benevolence too, granting boons to mortals that pleased him and punishing those who didn't. He slept around a lot, yes, but he still kept order in the world.

Remember that the Greek pantheon wasn't supposed to be exemplars of ideals. They were beings the people could relate to.

It's more complicated than that. It always is, when you try to shoehorn real mythology into hackneyed fantasy cliches of "Good" and "Evil".

In any case, it doesn't matter. The obvious reason to play Zeus-as-a-child is to play out the story of the Titanomache, where the Olympians are fairly obviously the heroes, and Zeus is the instigator.

And it's relatively easy to do. All that's truly known is the eventual outcome, that it started when Zeus released his siblings and that the war itself lasted for 10 years like the Trojan War would later do. Greek mythology has something of an unofficial chronology, beginning with the Creation myths and going through the Titanomachy and the various heroes that appeared befroe Heracles. Then, after Heracles's ascension, preparations were made for the Trojan War and the Odyssey. Anything after that is basically the purview of the Aenid, which takes us from Greek to Roman mythology. I find it quite fascinating, really.
