| Faithkeep04-02-07, 12:46 PM | I was wondering. Which deity would Moradin hate the most? :detect: Oh and side question, what are the two most powerful domains of Moradin? Thanks. :) |
| ripvanwormer04-02-07, 01:17 PM | Probably Maglubiyet, just as Corellon's archnemesis is Gruumsh. The idea floated in Monster Mythology is that the dwarves primarily oppose the goblin pantheon and the elves primarily oppose the orcish pantheon, although that reverses the relationship that had existed in 1st edition to some extent (where dwarves primarily fought orcs and elves primarily fought hobgoblins). Of course, Corellon also has Lolth, but Moradin doesn't have an equivalent - the exiled dwarven god Laduguer isn't really hated, and he could probably rejoin the pantheon if his pride would let him. The derro god Diirinka could never rejoin the Morndinsamman after all the evil he's done, but he's relatively insignificant in the vast scheme of things, almost below Moradin's radar. Dwarves face much more threat from goblinkin than they do from derro. Moradin doesn't much like Gruumsh either, of course. Ilsensine is another god that's a major antagonist for the dwarves, responsible as it is for the creation of both the derro and the duergar, but Ilsensine is too vast and uncaring to be a really personal enemy. |
| Dunamin04-02-07, 02:48 PM | Hmm, isn't there also some enmity between dwarves and giant-kind in general? Mechanically represented by their battle-training against them? |
| ripvanwormer04-02-07, 03:15 PM | That's quite likely, Dunamin, but I'm not aware of any especial rivalry between the Jotunbrud and Morndinsamman. The Seldarine are the ones who fought a war with the brood of Annam in the past. |
| crimsonwolf04-02-07, 07:11 PM | umm the one demon dude who uses ice giants to attacks dwarves in the more cold areas? |
| ripvanwormer04-02-07, 08:45 PM | umm the one demon dude who uses ice giants to attacks dwarves in the more cold areas? Kostchtchie. Definitely an enemy, but probably not his arch-enemy. Demihuman Deities says that Moradin's foes include the "evil giant pantheon," which would include Kostchtchie, Thrym, Surtr, Korontor, Grolantor, Memnor, and Vaprak, but wouldn't include Annam, Stronmaus, Hiatea, Iallanis, Diancastra, or Othea. |
| Bopple04-02-07, 09:32 PM | There isn't an archenemy who he would fight to death. Corellon - Gruumsh Garl - Kurtulmak Moradin - None |
| Drewskie04-03-07, 12:21 AM | The dwarves have too many enemies. Don't think you can just pick out one primary nemesis for Moradin |
| ripvanwormer04-03-07, 04:17 PM | There isn't an archenemy who he would fight to death. Corellon - Gruumsh Garl - Kurtulmak Moradin - None Garl would never kill Kurtulmak - he's way too much fun to prank. The emnity between Kurtulmak and Garl is somewhat one-sided; Garl is a greater deity and Kurtulmak only an intermediate one, so Kurtulmak takes the war much more seriously than Garl does (Garl finds it difficult to take anything seriously, but the emnity of a lizard with delusions of grandeur is even harder for him). Special K has tried to kill Garl on numerous occasions, but he's been outwitted and humiliated each time. |
| crimsonwolf04-03-07, 08:18 PM | wait until he makes a armor of pun puns then all shall be taken .... Seriously a joke book contianign pun pun invasion? |
| jaw4ever04-03-07, 08:57 PM | Has anyone considered Lolth? Both dwarfs and drow fight heavily over the Underdark natural resources..but I guess I could say the same about mind-flayers...evermind. |
| Rocketboy1304-04-07, 01:06 AM | I don't think he has one per say, but you could easily give him one. |
| JulesCARV04-04-07, 01:21 AM | Pelor. Pelor can be Moradin's enemy if he wants. If there's one thing I've learned from M1kh43l_P4r4d1s0, it's that Pelor can be anything. |
| Faithkeep04-04-07, 03:52 AM | Pelor. Pelor can be Moradin's enemy if he wants. If there's one thing I've learned from M1kh43l_P4r4d1s0, it's that Pelor can be anything. Wahahahahaha... :heehee I learned that too! :w00t: |
| crimsonwolf04-04-07, 09:22 AM | do to there primtive nature in understanding astrlgy a great war is waging between selune ane pelor. Having belived that a eclipse was a attempted by the moon goddess to steal the sun lords power. The Temples of Pelor are going about to creat a arcane cannon to blast it from the sky. Therefor giving there lord Freedom of the skies. |
| G_Mancer04-04-07, 10:04 AM | Races of Stone (and maybe Dieties and Demigods) says in the description of moradin, that he has a brother(or half brother) that he hates. more accuratly, after dwarves were created by moradin, some jerk-hole went around parading as Moradin's brother and became a god. i think it's the god of duergar. so theres always that...and, like what everyone else said, dwarves have like a bajillion enemies... so pic a racial diety of a dwarven enemy that suites you best... |
| Faithkeep04-04-07, 10:15 AM | How about the domains question? Which of the following is most useful for you? :) Craft Creation Dwarf Earth Good Law Portal Protection Sin-Avarice Sin-Pride Sin-Wrath :D |

That's Roknar the Tempter, the god of greed, who is probably the same as the god elsewhere called Abbathor, who is usually called Moradin's son. They're both counted among Moradin's enemies, but they're still part of the pantheon, not exiled from it as the duergar god Laduguer or the derro god Diirinka have been. Roknar is mentioned only in Races of Stone. |
| Treymordin04-04-07, 09:51 PM | I dont see Lolth as his archenemy. Perhaps he just doesnt have one and that is okay too! |
| Prak, the Mad04-05-07, 03:39 AM | I'd say he probably counts Gruumsh, Maglubiyet and the various giant dieties amongst his enemies. on a side note... are Monster Mythology and Demihuman Deities actual books? and what this Mikhael_Paradiso you guys mentioned? also, where does the pelor v. selune thing come from? |
| ripvanwormer04-05-07, 04:53 PM | are Monster Mythology and Demihuman Deities actual books? Yes, they're sitting on my shelf. Monster Mythology has a pseudoleather blue cover, while Demihuman Deities has a picture of Corellon fighting Gruumsh on the front. Try googling them, and you'll see what they look like (and find a store selling them as .pdfs). and what this Mikhael_Paradiso you guys mentioned? No idea. JulesCarv's post came from some private insanity that we aren't privy to. |
