| DarkflameX05-10-07, 07:14 PM | a little background, the story started with a prophecy in which my four PCs came from different worlds to this one, against their will. later in the game it turns out one of my friends wanted to join my game as a sorceress, so i had her join as a person from the current plane. now i have been thinking about some fun ideas for them and i came to the idea that i wanted to have some extremely powerful wizards connect all 5 material planes (the current one being the center, and the other 4 north south east west respectively) i figure this could open the development of a few wars, a lot more territory and a chance for them to visit their homelands. i have some more stuff planned out with it but i dont feel like getting into it because it isnt really developed yet. so good idea? opinions? |

| locustechpriest05-10-07, 09:59 PM | It seems to me that the basic lore on planes is that those with equivalent traits tend to merge into one entity. I think I read in the 3.0 Manual of the Planes that a section of some plane or another was snapped off by a Formian invasion and added to Mechanus due to a catastrophic realignment scenario. (I'll have to remember that one, I like big words.) I could be wrong and, of course, you are free to ignore the laws of the multiverse for your own campaign (guilt trip :P ), but I figure the material planes, all being a perfect balance of the elements and such, would merge. |

(I'll have to remember that one, I like big words.) Arcadia's third layer did merge with Mechanus when it grew too lawful and not sufficiently good. However, the Outer Planes are of a different stuff than the Material Plane. Parts of the Outer Planes are constantly shifting and sliding from one plane to another as the beliefs of their inhabitants change because belief is part of the intrinsic nature of the Outer Planes. It's part of the divinely morphic trait that makes a plane more... morphic. The Material Plane is more solid and fixed. I won't say it's impossible for different material worlds to fuse - I'm sure powerful wizards could do it - but it doesn't happen naturally. |

| locustechpriest05-11-07, 03:06 PM | Point taken, Mr. VanWormer, I see the logic. :) |
| Naderion05-11-07, 06:00 PM | In my opinion, the Alternative Material Planes are like the layers of the Complete Material Plane. That is, if they share the same inner and outer planes. If not, something like pictured in the Manual of the Planes would be more appropiate. My setting uses a "layered" material plane, with every star of the material plane being the center of it's own layer (like the spelljammer crystal spheres, I think). |
| tsuron05-21-07, 09:46 PM | IF your into the whole inter plane invation thing i'd read the Rift War book by Raymond E. Feist (i think). also i think having diffent materials be only from or seldom found on a sertain material plane is a great idea. it's a reason for the planes to go to war. for example in the Rift Wars metal was rare on the Kelewan plane, so they invaded, causing a long and bloody war. |
