| lunoc08-29-07, 04:11 PM | alright, as the name suggests in my campaign, the forces of insanity are fighting the multiverse. the gods have formed a great alliance to fight back the lord of insanity. i want to know if they have a chance of victory. lady of pain the forgotten realms deities the core deities Greek deities norse deities demogorgon asemodus vs. yog-sothoph the idiot god |
| jareddm08-29-07, 07:18 PM | As a quick note before people start pouring in, he's talking just in terms of power levels. I'd prefer to not hear two dozen responses of "The Lady of Pain wouldn't care!" On that note, I still believe the multiverse would still be screwed if the consciousnesses of Far Realm actually did turn their attention to the known Multiverse |
| 42008-29-07, 07:38 PM | vs. yog-sothoph the idiot god Just one Far Realm deity? That's Cthulhu Mythos by the way, in D&D Yog-Sothoth is known as Bolothamogg. Well... if reality was at stake I would guess an overgod like Forgotten Realms Ao would just mop the floor (the planes?) with Far Realm Powers. In fact, that's probably what Ao does since he doesn't seem interested in the affairs of mortals. Also, The Lady of Pain, being a game mechanic, is even more powerful than some backwater Prime overgod like Ao. And the only being more powerful than Her Serenity is Gary Gygax. So, any one of those three could be solely responsible for keeping the Far Realm incursions in check. -420 |
| lunoc08-29-07, 08:53 PM | the idiot god his real name is Azathoth . a creature that annihilates existence, (including gods) in the instant he wakes up yog-sothoph, from cthulhu. he is stronger than the idiot god. the cthulhu equivalent of the lady of pain. i think even the lady would care, after all if all of existence is destroyed (excluding far realms) she would just be floating in a void. i have lop and yog as apposed equals, with the idiot god tipping things in yogs favor. Azathoth: "awake, and there will be worlds nor gods no more." "[O]utside the ordered universe [is] that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes" "the ancient legends of Ultimate Chaos, at whose center sprawls the blind idiot god Azathoth, Lord of All Things" Yog-Sothoth: " It was an All-in-One and One-in-All of limitless being and self — not merely a thing of one Space-Time continuum, but allied to the ultimate animating essence of existence's whole unbounded sweep — the last, utter sweep which has no confines and which outreaches fancy and mathematics alike. It was perhaps that which certain secret cults of earth have whispered of as YOG-SOTHOTH, and which has been a deity under other names; that which the crustaceans of Yuggoth worship as the Beyond-One, and which the vaporous brains of the spiral nebulae know by an untranslatable Sign..." He is stated as the only being truly more powerful than the all-mighty Azathoth, and wiser than the all-seeing Yibb-Tstll. in the campain, lop. was the one who put Azathoth to sleep, and the one who sent yog out of space and time. |

| Ornum08-30-07, 09:18 AM | I guess the question I have is this: In what way are the PC's supposed to actually do anything that will actually effect the campaign one way or another? I mean, if all of this is going on with gods, archfiends, and other such beings, how can mortals even get noticed. Also, I think I would omit Demogorgon and add Graz'zt instead. I know I've read that Graz'zt has been making overtures to try and end the Blood War, and I think that Asmodeus would eventually like to do the same. With the two working together in this instance, that goal could be a step or two closer to being realized. |
| Mirtek08-30-07, 11:40 AM | Azathoths D20 stats in the official CoC D20 game make him an 80 HD DvR 20 deitiy. Most powerfull, but nothing that a few greater deities working together couldn't defeat. |
| lunoc08-30-07, 11:47 AM | you see, the pcs will be fighting lesser powers ( cthulhu, uluu thalongh, the xanathar ect...) and will become deities at the climax of the campaign, in witch they join the fight. |
| Maldin08-30-07, 02:21 PM | Who would win? Da Bears, of course! ;) Seriously? This is pretty much outside of any rules that exist for the game. You can't officially stat out the reality of a campaign world, or produce a balanced equation of gods (I prefer "Powers" - a term that includes powerful immortal beings that often aren't called gods, like the archfiends). Thats the sort of thing that only DMs can determine for their own campaign. Sooo.... In the equation you have attempted to describe? I would think that multiple complete pantheons (and their "overPowers"/overgods) working together would trump a few invading Powers, no matter how powerful they are, or where they came from... in the end they are all still (over)Powers. What? You say the invaders can warp reality? Keep in mind that the native Powers have lots of "home turf" advantages and would (working in concert) be able to prevent many of the abilities of foreign gods from functioning on "their" planes. |
| Maldin08-30-07, 10:53 PM | Having severe posting technical problems, so had to put this as a Part 2 to my previous post... If all of reality were at stake in my campaign world? The current crop of Powers did not create the multiverse. They are but the most recent generation of ants crawling around on someone else's picnic table. The multiverse was shaped by the Primal Sentients (http://melkot.com/mysteries/multiverse.html). If enough of the Powers got together to try to disrupt things and make major changes to reality, they would be wiped off the table and understand about the same amount as the ants in the analogy about what happened. | Thegans09-01-07, 02:19 AM | Well everyone mortal that flees would eventually hide in Sigil and then an army of pseudo creatures would rush in and start causing poblems. The :lop: would get ****** off and then. The Far Realm is flayed and Sigil is the last place in reality with every gate leading back to it. At least thats what I think is most likely. |
| lunoc09-01-07, 09:47 AM | thegans... i don't know, since Azathoth ( the book version, not d20) kills existence by being AWAKE!! plus yog, who literally is what is out of space and time, sounds like lop would have a little trouble. also, if many (hundreds) powers (non overgod) team up, can they beat an overgod?? |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli09-01-07, 10:07 AM | also, if many (hundreds) powers (non overgod) team up, can they beat an overgod?? I don't think so. In FR, Ao could slap the entire pantheon around when they were getting a little too naughty. |
| hazhar09-01-07, 11:49 AM | lady of pain you answered your own question. |
| Thegans09-01-07, 02:43 PM | thegans... i don't know, since Azathoth ( the book version, not d20) kills existence by being AWAKE!! plus yog, who literally is what is out of space and time, sounds like lop would have a little trouble. also, if many (hundreds) powers (non overgod) team up, can they beat an overgod?? In that case their is a conflict of interest. Yog-Sothoth is all time and space meaning Yog is existence. If Azathoth wakes up Yog-Sothoth dies. I doub't Yog wants to die. Btw a little trouble probably isn't much for Her Serenity. |
| lunoc09-01-07, 07:37 PM | yog literally isnt time and space. as a noun. his essence, is what is outside of space. yog is the outside of existence. |
| Kihon09-07-07, 04:26 PM | I have read that the secret history of the Lady of Pain is (in brief, roughly) is that she and another being created Everything. Eventually she continued creating, but he stopped. The Lady of Pain along with her creations 'caged' this other entity, and locked him away for all time (perhaps in the process creating the far realm and this sleeping god of the far realm is in fact the being The Lady of Pain locked away), which makes some sense since this all took place before the other powers existed. Which means that the sleeping one is more powerful then all the other powers (except her), but can really only be released by the Lady of Pain herself... and she will not do that while this reality exists. |
| lunoc09-07-07, 05:35 PM | thanks kihon, thats helpful. i have a thought, since "azy" is locked away and yog is the key, the guardian, and the gate perhaps Azathoth is locked inside yog, making yog the lord of the far realm. since Azathoth is locked in yog, and yog is the key he could release him. alright based on this ill revise my mythos. my campains powers are as follows the lady of pain, keeper/creator of the multiverse we live in. yog-sothoph, and Azathoth, were once the twin lords of insanity. yog was content to maintain his realm, as the other powers were. but Azathoth, thought himself the ultimate being and did not recognize the power of the other powers. he thought maddness should rein over every verse. lady of pain fought back, the battle destroyed many planes and ancient races. yog stepped in, allowing the lady to seal Azathoth inside himself. however, yog has been competing with the lady as if in chess. he says her creation is weak. now yog has released Azathoth , gaining another pawn. the lord of dark* of all powers, least is known about the lord of dark. he was not even known to exist untill he intervened in one of yog sothophs plots, and even then, he empowered mortals to do his bidding. (this is what happens to the pcs) yog "recently" killed of the last of his chosen. the raw intelligence* he is what his name implies, ultimate raw intelligence. beings from his realm are extreamly damaging to entities of the far realm. the power itself is even more apathetic than the lady of pain. he refused to fight Azathoth. *my creation |
| El_Machinae09-07-07, 10:30 PM | I double-checked your list. You have Odin there, so everything will be fine. That said, Cthulhu was supposed to be the high priest of his peers. So, what did he supplicate TO? |
| lunoc09-08-07, 05:10 PM | im not exactly sure what you just said. wait!! it must be a code! ill get my translator :88E: |
