| Squaba02-05-08, 07:36 PM | I'm working on building a campaign setting to run a game in and have decided to populate it with my own gods. This is what I have so far, please read it and let me know what you think. The Seven Paths of Life The ursai devote their lives to one of the Seven Paths of Life. Each path is associated with an elemental lord who represents both a virtue and a sin. The elemental lords are always at battle, each opposing and in turn opposed by one other lord and his path. The ursai understand that each lord, sin, and virtue has its place in the wheel of life and seek to further their lord’s goals, but rarely at the cost of their kin’s lives regardless of what order he may follow. Ursai clerics and paladins follow one of these seven paths, worshiping and praying to the lord associated with the path. The First Path Patron Lord: Wu Fang – The Guiding Light, Lord of Flames, the Burning Rage (Intermediate God) Symbol: A red dirt road running through a baron desert leading towards a setting sun. Alignment: Chaotic Good Portfolio: Fire, Anger, Humility, Light, Day, Sun, Stars Cleric Alignment: Chaotic Good, Neutral Good, Neutral, Chaotic Neutral Domains: Chaos, Good, Fire, Power, Renewal, Sun, Wrath Favored Weapon: A wisp of fire (Nunchuck) Wu Fang (woo fang), is a chaotic deity dedicated to the arts of war and the beauties of combat. Wu Fang’s virtue is humility, long ago he learned his place in the universe and no longer does he strive to move beyond, instead he teaches his followers to be content with life, to perfect themselves, and to always know that those who think themselves great seldom are. Wu Fang is guilty of the sin of wrath; he sees those who take advantage of fire’s life giving powers and grows angry. Wu Fang is the only chaotic member of the ursai pantheon and his followers embody the ever changing nature of fire, practicing both humility and war. He favors action over peace, and the other lords fear his unpredictability. Wu Fang’s unique order of chaotic monks, the Disciples of the Eternal Flame, are known throughput Halcia as formidable fighters without peer. The monastery of the First Path can be found on the equatorial Isle of Ash. The monastery itself is built within the caldera left behind by one of the dormant volcanoes that dot the island, and is constantly lit with torches and fires. Clerics of Wu Fang pray for their spells at sunset, when Wu Fang’s great eye passes beyond the horizon and his followers must be vigilant against Wu Fang’s great foe Kua Zang. History/Relationships: As a lord of one of the First Path Wu Fang is opposed by Kua Zang and opposes Shen Yu. Although he bears no ill will toward his little brother he is insulted by the way Shen Yu’s follower’s abuse fire to make weapons without offering proper thanks. Wu Fang attempts to teach Shen Yu’s followers humility by burning them and melting their works when their attentions wane from their work. Wu Fang is always at war with Kua Zang, who seeks to destroy everything the other lords have created. Unfortunately his anger often gets the better of him and Kua Zang uses his cunning to take advantage of Wu Fang’s fits of rage. Wu Fang is allied with Ba Tsing and Lai Ping. He aids the Emerald Lass in her battle against Shen Yu, but only if he is adequately paid for his services. He enthusiastically helps Lai Ping accomplish her goals against Qua Zang. In exchange for his aid Wu Fang receives fresh clean air to fan his flames, and good solid timber to stoke his furnaces. Dogma: Temper skill with knowledge, and ability with humility. Strive for greatness but never think that you have reached the pinnacle, remember there is always another greater and more skilled than you. Never let an insult go unanswered, and act quickly, planning only allows your foes time to gather their strength. The Second Path Patron Lord: Shen Yu – The Iron Warrior, Lord of Metal, Proud Stone (Lesser God) Symbol: A grey road leading to a metallic bridge stretching across a gapping chasm. Alignment: Lawful Neutral Portfolio: Progress, Metal, Smithwork, Construction Cleric Alignment: Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral, Neutral, Neutral Evil, Lawful Evil Domains: Artifice, Craft, Law, Metal, Protection, Knowledge Favored Weapon: A piece of ore (Spiked Mace) Shen Yu (shen you) is the youngest lord of the ursai pantheon, his path was discovered a few hundred years ago when humanoids began to shape earth into more sturdy forms by melting it down with great fires. Shen Yu’s virtue is temperance, he is capable of great feats, and has learned to pace himself, he teaches his followers to drink sparingly from life’s cup, and to practice control on the field of battle. Shen Yu is guilty of the sin pride; as a young god his followers have accomplished much and it makes him boastful and confident. Shen Yu is the most creative member of the ursai pantheon, and his ideas flow from him into the minds of his followers, spurring them on to great things. He is an advocate of battle, and promotes the use of weapons amongst followers of his path. His order of monks, the Brothers and Sisters of Steel, favor the use of monk special weapons over unarmed combat. The monastery of the Second Path is found deep in the Everwatch mountain range, located on an equatorial point opposite the Isle of Ash and the monastery of the First Path. The monastery is carved within the confines of an ancient iron mine, with brightly lit steel walls that shine against the gloom in the seemingly endless tunnels. Clerics of Shen Yu pray for their spells at a time of their choosing, and accompany their prayers by working on some small craft (usually a carving of stone or wood they carry with them.) History/Relations: Shen Yu opposes Ba Tsing and is in turn opposed by Wu Fang. Shen Yu regrets having gained Wu Fang’s ire by taking his flame, but feels the wonders his followers turn out with its aid should excuse his slight. Shen Yu openly seeks to destroy the works of Ba Tsing, feeling her forests and jungles are impeding the progress his disciples are trying to make. Unfortunately for Shen Yu every tree he cuts down is replaced by Ba Tsing with three saplings somewhere else on Halcia, and his disciples are too few to keep up with the works of the Emerald Lass. Shen Yu is allied with Qua Zang, who whispers flattering remarks into the young lord’s ears in subtle attempts to further his own personal agendas. He is also allied with Shui Gong, and attempts to do away with her sister Ba Tsing in exchange for clear waters in which his smiths can cool their works and quench their thirsts. Dogma: Metal is rigid, knowing both control and restraint. It is proud of its sheen and strength, and boasts it’s prowess in the faces of wood and fire. Practice discipline in the face of chaos, and calm on the field of battle. Trust in the strength of your sword and your shield for they are crafted of the flesh of Shen Yu and he is invincible. The Third Path Patron Lady: Ba Tsing – The Emerald Lass, Lady of Wood, the Thirsting Lady (Intermediate Goddess) Symbol: A winding green road stretching into a deep forest and twisting out of sight. Alignment: Neutral Good Portfolio: Plants, Summer, Renewal, Wild Nature Cleric Alignment: Chaotic Good, Neutral Good, Neutral Domains: Animal, Creation, Good, Healing, Plant, Renewal Favored Weapon: An oaken branch (Quarterstaff) Ba Tsing (bah sing) is a humble deity. Patron of animals and the wild parts of nature Ba Tsing’s virtue is compassion, she is constantly giving of herself to help her children, whether it be food from her branches, or the simple shade of her leave she is always willing to help those in need. She is guilty of the sin of gluttony; and is constantly drinking in the rays of the sun, consuming water, and feasting upon the soil. Ba Tsing is the kindest of all the gods of the ursai pantheon, and she is the one that takes the most active role in the lives of her followers and their people. She actively seeks to improve her worshipers’ lives by creating a more hospitable world for them to live in. She preaches compassion for ones fellow, and asks her children to practice kindness in the face of hostility. Her monks, the Children of the Green, practice nonviolence and would rather subdue a foe than do them harm. The monastery of the Third Path is hidden deep within the equatorial jungles of Derinth equidistant from both the Isle of Ash and the Everwatch mountains. The temple appears to be in ruins, with portions of the walls crumbling and overgrown with creeper vines, and trees growing up from beneath the cobblestone courtyards. The worshipers of Ba Sing seem to take no interest in the rampant growth overtaking their monastery; many even consider it to be Ba Tsing’s doing. Clerics of Ba Tsing pray for their spells at noon, when the light their goddess feeds on is at its strongest, prayers to Ba Tsing are often accompanied with offerings of pure water. Relations/History: Ba Tsing is opposed by Shen Yu and opposes Shui Gong. She hates how Shen Yu is always seeking to destroy her forests, and often allies with Wu Fang against him, offering the lord of fire fresh timber for his furnaces in exchange for his aid. Ba Tsing seeks to temper her sister Shui Gong’s envious ways by showing her the path of giving, unfortunately Shui Gong proves to be a stubborn student and often floods her sister’s forests, destroying many trees in the process, as a way of showing her gratitude. Ba Tsing is allied with her mother Lai Ping, her Father Xuan Bai, and her brother Wu Fang. She aids her mother and brother in their battle against the Lord of Metal and the Lady of Water, offering them whatever aid they need. She also helps her father in his conflict with her wayward sister Shui Gong; growing trees that help hold together his loose soil in the face of her watery onslaughts. Dogma: Wood is kind; it gives freely of itself to help others, asking for little in return. It draws in life from the water, sun, and soil always feeding and opposing the progress of metal. Show kindness and mercy to one’s enemies. Know that the Lady of Wood watches over you and offer her water daily as a sign of your thanks. The Fourth Path Patron Lord: Shui Gong – The Sapphire Queen, Lady of Water, the Jealous Wanderer (Lesser Goddess) Symbol: A blue road leading across a beach and into a sparkling ocean. Alignment: Neutral Evil Portfolio: Creation, Sailing, Storms, Tides, Water, Cleric Alignment: Lawful Neutral, Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, Neutral Evil, Lawful Evil, Chaotic Evil Domains: Evil, Moon, Ocean, Storm, Travel, Water, Watery Death Favored Weapon: A jet of water (Spiked Chain) Shui Gong (sh-wee gong) is a restless goddess, always traveling across the realm in one of her many forms. Her virtue is diligence; she is always looking for weaknesses in her foes and is ever ready to take advantage of even the smallest crack. She is guilty of the sin of envy, secretly she longs to be still and take solid form like her sister Ba Tsing and her father the Earth Lord. Shui Gong is merciless; always ready to take advantage of those who travel her oceans or rivers should they show the slightest weakness. She delights in flooding rivers and catching mortals unawares. Her followers practice diligence, and are more than willing to take from others what they are not strong enough to keep themselves. Her order of monks, the Storming Fists, may multiclass as rogues without risking loosing their monks abilities or sacrificing the ability to gain more monk levels. The monastery of the Fourth Path is located on the Isle of Clouds, a treacherous island surrounded by reefs, shoals, and dangerous riptides. The isle itself is constantly shrouded with a deep fog (hence the name.) The monastery is built in the center of the island, built from grim grey stone the monastery is filled with bowls and urns all designed to catch rain water so that it may be used in rituals. Clerics of Shui Gong pray for spells at dawn, when fog still clings to the surface of oceans and lakes. Relationship/History: Shui Gong is opposed to Xuan Bai and opposed by Ba Tsing. She is envious of her sister’s gifts and solid form, and seeks to supplant her as the patron goddess of wood. She is constantly battling with her father Xuan Bai, who’s sleeping form blocks her rivers and tides. She is constantly chipping away at his great body to make room for herself. Shui Gong is allied with Qua Zang and her little brother Shen Yu. She enjoys watching Shen Yu try to destroy Ba Tsing’s forest, and is more than happy to lend him aid when he needs it. She is less thrilled about working along with Qua Zang. She does not trust the Endless Night and only works with him because her father is to strong for her to deal with alone. Dogma: Water is hard working, always chiseling away at the coasts and land that confine it, always moving without rest. Strive to be like water, flow around your foes and strike when the least expect, take advantage of the smallest flaw for a might river can move through even the most insignificant crack. The Fifth Path Patron Lord: Xuan Bai – The All-Father, Lord of Earth, the Sleeping Giant (Greater God) Symbol: A brown road leading up a rocky and broken mountain path. Alignment: Lawful Good Portfolio: Earth, Changelessness, Honor, Caverns, Mountains Cleric Alignment: Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral Domains: Cavern, Earth, Endurance, Good, Law, Strength, Time Favored Weapon: Earth’s virtue is Integrity and it is guilty of the sin of Sloth: Earth is reliable and wise, honest and ageless. It lies before water and wind, forcing both to move around it, always sleeping and rarely moving. The Sixth Path Patron Lord: Lai Ping – The Life Giver, Lady of Wind, the Stirring Desire (Greater Goddess) Symbol: A white road twisting across the blue sky and behind a group of clouds. Alignment: Neutral Good Portfolio: Cleric Alignment: Domains: Favored Weapon: Wind’s virtue is Charity and it is guilty of the sin of Lust: Wind is giving, all life needs its blessed breeze and it is happy to bring it to them. Wind desires companions and playmates, always searching for new allies in its battles against the endless void and the dour earth. The Seventh Path Patron Lord: Qua Zang – The Endless Night, Lord of the Void, the Covetous Shade (Greater God) Symbol: A black road leading towards a black and purple spiral against a bleak grey background. Alignment: Lawful Evil Portfolio: Cleric Alignment: Domains: Favored Weapon: Void’s virtue is Patience and it is guilty of the sin of Avarice: Void is ever lasting; it has learned patience and the value of planning. It seeks to draw all life into it coveting that which it does not have. |
| GoukaRyuu02-06-08, 09:48 AM | This is a very interesting a well put together pantheon. I really like the themes. I hope you can flesh out the last few deities. |
| Squaba02-07-08, 12:35 AM | I'm almost finished with them, I had to take a break after the first four. |
| Gardag02-10-08, 11:41 PM | I think it's a very cool and detailed pantheon, but I'm curious, does other races adore the same pantheon or you have another set of gods from a different faith. |
