| RickyD06-03-07, 07:44 PM | Recently on an adventure to the underdark, our party was caught in a scuffle with a band of dark clerics who had an objection to our intrusion into their temple. After a poor will save, my fighter found himself in a mysterious, red sand desert, with a tablet near by informing him that he's in hell and should spend his time contemplating his devotion to the dark god worshipped by these clerics. Now the question is, how does my fighter get back to the material plane? There is a wizard and cleric in the party, both 11th level, but how are they supposed to know on what plane he resides? Would the spellcheck to determine what spell the cleric cast have told them where he was sending the fighter? The spellcasters could scry but I'm not they have knowledge (planes) either so that isn't much help. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Your cleric and wizard would be able to identify the spell as it was being cast with a DC20 spellcraft check. Now, Planeshift needs a forked metal rod as a focus, and the size and metal type dictates to which plane of existence or alternate dimension the spell sends the affected creatures. So all your allies have to do is somehow get hold of the forked metal rod the clerics used to planeshift you, and cast planeshift themselves to get to the same plane as you are. From there, they can use their standard divination spells to find you. (Just make sure they have a forked rod that can bring them back) |

There are many layers and places scattered throughout the abyss and hell. For that reason a blind planeshift may prove hazardous to the rest of your party. Of course don't go out of your way to use discern location, just take one of the dead bodies of the dark priest...preferably the one that cast the spell and use speak with dead and command him to tell you where he was sent. Then you would have a location and since you are 11th, your cleric can cast planeshift and then jump in there and then jump back out. |

Now the question is, how does my fighter get back to the material plane? Bad luck. Its really up to the mage and cleric to figure out. One, ignore the tablet. If it was my character, I would kick it over and spit on it. If you die, at least your soul goes to your god, and you spite the dark god. Show no repsect and give the dark god no satsifaction. Hopefully your party can save you, lay low, don't tick off the natives, and find some kind of portal. |

Just Wish "I wish for (insert fighter's name here) to be instantly teleported to this location, upon this plane, whether he be upon this plane or any other; and that he fall into this reality (in case your DM is a sadist who uses alternate timelines/realities) unscathed and unharmed by the journey; and that no ill effects befall him as a direct result of the teleportation." |
