The basic idea is a law/chaos split instead of a good/evil split. Archons, Inevitables, and Baatezu were all created by the gods for a specific purpose and are equally considered celestials in that they all serve the celestial order. Archons to protect the mortal races and ensure they get fair judgement in the afterlife, Inevitables are there to enforce a miriad of primal laws that were passed down by the gods that have little relevance to good and evil, and Baatezu are there to punish the souls of the damned in the afterlife. Eladrin, Slaad, and Tanar'ri were all formed from chaos, each representing a different aspect of it, and are equally considered demons in that they have no intended purpose in creation. Eladrin represent the hopeful aspects of chaos, the parts that allow for positive innovations to occur and for all situations, no matter how terrible to get better, Slaad represent the unpredictable and uncaring aspects of chaos, and Tanar'ri of course represent the destructive aspects of chaos and serve as a counterpart to the Eladrin. Fairly standard stuff that's meant to be recognizable and understandable to the players while downplaying the good versus evil thing a little bit (at least as far as creation is concerned). Now, I want to incorporate Angels and Demodands as an exception to the law versus chaos theme, with Angels of course representing good and the Demodands representing evil. Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how they would fit into this creation scheme, I can't see why or how such beings would come in existance and what purpose they would serve. So, I'm wondering if anyone here has any tips on incorporating such creatures. |

It's a nice idea, and furthermore means angels have somethnig to be a little touchy over (what you wouldn't be pee'd at knowing you're a mistake?) |

I would make it, that they are not part of the general conflict, but are above or outside of it. They are "activly" neutral in their goodnes. Their intention is neither to have law or chaos gaining an advantage over the other, but to make sure, that there is a balance maintained and that good remains good, even in the face of the conflict of law and chaos. They don't really care for either, or they do care for both, and they are the power that maintains balance inside the forces of good and prevent good fighting good. With the forces of evil, it's not that har either, if you make them yugoloths. The yugoloths are completely selfish and care for no higher authority. The commitment of the devils to order is just stupid in their eyes and the demons are just crazy maniacs. But the yugoloths don't care about it as long as it makes things not hard for themself, and in fact, the conflict of law and chaos can be exploited without limits, if one is just ruthless enough to sell out anyone and don't give a damn on any philosophy. |
