| Catdurid04-16-07, 05:57 PM | Okay im dm'ing a campaign and my group always wants to kill the npc that gives them quests or oppurtinities ect... I figure if i can get the template for a diety that the act of finishing him off would be next to impossible, i hope one of you can help me by posting the template, if it is allowed ofcourse, im new so i dont really know. |
| Rickiel04-16-07, 06:09 PM | First off, figure out/ask them why they want to kill your local quest giver. Second, do you really need just ONE person who gives the heroes (or villains) quests and jobs? Third, you say you're new? If you have the luxury of the DMG (Dungeon Master's Guide) read through the sections on NPC's and Campaigns. It might help you a bit more clearly than I can. |
| adgramaine04-16-07, 06:29 PM | Actually - you can use this to your advantage if you are so disposed. You say your group wants to kill their quest givers? Run with any deity from Deities and Demigods. There is no way a non-epic group of characters can ever hope to defeat a god/goddess... esp. if you start them at 1st-3rd level. Let them try, and make the deity respond in kind, leaving them one step away from the need for a raise dead spell. "puny mortals, bow down to my whims and know that I am your master, and you will do what I ask!" Watch the group decide they'll do the bugger's quest, if only to accumulate power sos they can take the haughty god down! Deicide (the act of destroying a god) can be a powerful plot device, provoking some really intense RP. Great stories can be mined from this simple premise that your players will willingly line themselves up for. And if they just want to splat stuff, epic level combats (for which they can build their characters towards) are kewl too! Just don't rail-road the players. And don't hit them in a cruel manner. Your not out to kill their characters - you're out to provide them with fun, and have fun yourself while doing so. Keep that in mind, and I'm sure it will work out. Good luck! |
| Catdurid04-16-07, 06:48 PM | Im "new" to the boards not the game. And yes there is one quest giver the campiegn is centered around an ancient hero rewarded with becoming a diety. I plan on taking them to epic level and by then the temptation of once again killing off the main NPC will be to great and they wont let their gear/power go to waste. I dont have the book so it would really help if i could get the template, If any of you know how to get to it please tell if no i hope one of you is kind enough to type it out. |
| adgramaine04-16-07, 07:15 PM | Catdurid , check your PMs. I might be able to help you out. |
| doublecut04-16-07, 07:36 PM | Just make a high level npc as an arch enemy after they kill the npc quest giver or just about the time the kill off your npc have your group kidnapped by a group of adventures who make them work off there in slavement by doing the quest and repaying the family of the victim. or how about just have the victim polymorgh into his true from a ancient gold or silver dragon :lightbulb |
| fiendkiller04-16-07, 07:55 PM | Maybe a deity template is unnecessary. Have you thought about making the quest giver a captain of the guard and have him be in the guard house, with scores of other guards? |
| Catdurid04-18-07, 11:24 AM | I really like all of your suggestions but the diety template is necessary because the campiegn is built around this diety and this diety alone. When the characters reach high enough level they will need to help him in his plane because an evil drudic diety(my drudic diety is good ofcourse) taints all that inhabbits his plane. So i dont really want to not finish this campiegn becuase i cant get any help with what a diety's stats or sumthing could be like. |
| doublecut04-18-07, 07:14 PM | have the deity to have a follower give them the quest. If they kill him he will serve his god in the afterlife by being their guide in his realm. Also getting revenge in the process for their act of murder. he has to lead them to their goal and they get a good lesson on not killing quest giving npc in the process. especially when the guide detours alittle to give them a trip that they'll never forget |
| primemover00304-18-07, 07:51 PM | Crazy.... |
| primemover00304-18-07, 07:55 PM | What level are they??? Use something ridiculously OVER-CR'd like a Titan or a Solar or Max HD Celestial Treant (it seems to fit your campaign) as the Heroes "basis" and just desribe him differently. |
| primemover00304-18-07, 07:56 PM | What the heck... |
| Catdurid04-18-07, 08:07 PM | Ok im taking the suggestion about the treant it will get tainted like i believe i said earlier so it also fits the detour they will never forget, beacause it goes from good to hostile. Thank you all for the suggestions I came to a solution. |
