According to the Fiendish Codex 2, Lawful acts such as "Quietly accepting a lawful judgement against you" can build up Obeisant points like Corruption points and land you in Baator after you die.

What the?!

Most of the things in the list that give Obeisance points are encouraged by even Lawful Good beings. How can following the law result in going to Baator after death, or is there something I missed?

Every book has its screwups. I guess that's one of them.

Obeisance determines whether you go to Baator as opposed to a more chaotic evil plane, such as the Abyss.

Corruption determines whether you go to Baator as opposed to a more good lawful plane, such as Celestia.

What Rip said about the difference between obeisance and corruption.

It's just a game mechanic that might be used to measure what plane a petitioner gets drawn to among the available possibilities. Clearly an LG character won't qualify to go to Baator unless by some quirk they happen to have contractually bound their soul to someone there.

Lawful Good
Lawful Evil

What do these two things have in common?

Law

Ethically, Lawful Good creature and Lawful Evil creature both value the same things. Their moral reasons for doing so, however, vary wildly.

Thus a being with a high Obeisance point rating is Guarunteed to go to a Lawful plane...but it's the specifics after that that determine whether it's Good, Neutral, or Evil.

Agreed.

Thats what I took them at, 1 part of a 2-part system. Kinda like a X-Y axis graph.

It can't. It results to you going to Celestia instead of Arborea.

Going to Baator is dependent on the combination of Corruption and Obeisance. Very low or no Corruption means you won't go to Baator no matter how high your Obeisance. Just as very high Corruption with low Obeisance means you're going to the Abyss or Carceri.
