Pantheon of Saints [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-04-07, 10:59 AM Pantheon of Saints the basic idea is that instead of having a pantheon of Gods being revered by one religion there would be a pantheon of saints.
The patron saint of travel
The patron saint of war
The patron saint of death
The patron saint of lost things
etc etc etc

Any ideas as to how i could make this work . . . none of the saints would be gods but people worship them and clerics would pray to them for spells. This is for humans in a low-magic setting.

IDEAS please . . .

04-04-07, 07:46 PM Thanks for the link this will be helpfully. The idea is instead of having a group of gods i have a group of no non-divine saints that humans worship and who answer prayers but grant only limited spells as this is for a low magic setting.

04-04-07, 08:10 PM It's also worth looking at the Voudoun (voodoo) Loa, closely related as well to Santeria beliefs. Most are identified with Christian saints since Haiti was under Spanish and French control for a long time and it was an easy thing to find traits in common between the Loa and these strange christian figures the slaveholders pushed on the workers, but with a decidedly more strange and dark vibe. Just a different take, but similar. Not so much gods as guardian spirits (more correctly, beings that will help if asked properly and given the proper respect/gifts).

04-06-07, 08:01 PM well come to think of it .. Johava is Ao....you have the few chosen .... umm Mary I guess would be some type of healer clierc that got lucky and is now mybe equal rank of Ao due to human worship?....with a few saints can be the demi and lesser levels

04-06-07, 08:45 PM Iron Kingdoms has a couple of deity's that have scions. they sound more or less like saints to me. May be a place to look.
