You can choose any race (including Half-things), and any class or multiclass (or prestige class), so long as it exists in V3.5. herrdoktor 11-30-07, 03:06 PM	personally my favourite class is the monk, for which dwarf works well (con bonus means you can put a lower score in it, since you need those high scores for wis, dex, and - to a lesser extent - strength; monk's *are* pretty ability heavy). the charisma penalty really doesn't matter for monks (besides, you want to sense motive, not bluff! my dwarf monk has 5 charisma right now... ('course the bard has 18!)) the speed bonus also helps negate the dwarf's lower speed. i could see some argument for half-orcs for monks, with int and cha being far less important than the other abilities, but i don't like playing characters with low int; or halfling if you want to play a very high dex monk... but i like dwarf the best.

Tovec 11-30-07, 11:06 PM	I'm partial to Elf Monks, mainly because my personal avatar in my game is an Elf with Blue Eyes and happens to be god of monks. A combination that I find works really well is a elven rogue, this allows them to use a composite Longbow instead of a Shortbow as they are proficient racially. The +2 to spot, listen and search make them good at detecting things and generally I just like elves. The 30 base land speed helps when running, faster then the halfling anyhow. I've spent a long career making NPCs and PCs with odd combinations but as I said, I'm partial to elves.
