My wizards has a major grudge agaist the gods, (long story), and wants to assend to divinity. However, I don't want to assend and level the other people in my group in the dust because this would unbalance the game waaaaay too much. I was thinking that instead I could kill/trap one or two demon prices or powerful devils and siphone off their power with the steal life spell in BOVD. Then I'd split up the power five ways so that I'm only marginally more powerful than the others, and then we go god-hunting. Would that work?

You might have an easier time against those gods than against those archfiends. Very situational.

Just kill Juiblex, he's nothing but slime!

Killing people and taking their neat stuff is how the D&D universe works.

Is your DM using the fiend stats in BoVD and the god stats in DDG? If so then its doubtful that even killing Asmodeus and Demogorgon and taking their power will help much except against the demi and quasi deities.

Hey darkfire! :)

Thats one possibility.

There are a few ways of doing it.

First of all, when you say the wizard wants to ascend to divinity, its not like you just flick a switch. So it might take him a while to become an immortal.

Also, when he does become immortal, he will only be a minor immortal, at best a quasi-deity.

Lastly, all power is relative. So while one character might become divine, one other might become a paragon, another could find a powerful artifact (which only they can use - to prevent jealousy), another character might gain a dragon steed etc.

A better way would be to find a way to become a true dragon (reincarnate perhaps), and then take levels in Dragon Ascendant. You finish that class off, and you officially get Divine Rank.

I'm not sure which set if she's using pre-written stats, or making them up, but the demon lord stats are coming from Fiendish Codex I. I was only going to go after at MOST a demigod anyway. Didn't want to be that overpowered jerk who lords it over everyone else, we always seem to have one of those.

Thanks everyone, I appriciate all the advice.

Also, would anyone happen to know were I could find the stats for a few demigods, or the general stats for quasi-deities? I've tried to find Deities and Demigods, but it's out of print and hard to come by around here.

Hello again darkfire,

glad I was able to help! :)

Well you could try my website, www.immortalshandbook.com/blessings.htm

I am sure I have some immortal stats there, although they might be slightly different from Deities & Demigods. I have stats for the likes of Godzilla, Galactus & the Silver Surfer (of course), Orcus, Demogorgon and a few others.

I would also suggest the dicefreaks website, but they are having server problems at the moment.

Problems which seem to be resolved right now, actually.
