Out of curiosity, does anyone have any ideas where a true neutral atheist would go in the afterlife? I'm wondering because said character was just stabbed in the face by an orc...

Either the Outlands (plane of true neutrality), or depending on the sort of athiest they were, they might not form a distinct petitioner (in the case of openly and strongly disbelieving in any sort of afterlife or life after death for themselves).

All right. Thanks. In case my character comes back, it would be interesting to be able to recount some tales from the afterlife.

Send him to purgatory, floating in infinite white nothingness with no contact to anyone or anything all he knows is he's somewhere and theres alot of white going around. He feels like there might be something there to him, but as he goes to look or move, nothing happens. Occasionally off in the distance, he sees a slight dot that seems to have some color other than white, or maybe even black(other planes btw). When, or if, he gets rez'd then make it so as the rest of his life he only gradually remembers bits...like he knew he was dead, then he knew he was in some sort of after life, then to knowing he was alone, then thinking he had something to him, then to remembering not seeing anything but white, then the stuff in the distance, then the many theories as to what those things were, and then finally remembering everything and that he is going to infinite nothingness. So towards the end of his life, he begs and pleas to any god who will to take him. but none take him, instead he has to make some contract with a greater demon or evil god for eternal service, then like the demon can make him do stupid stuff and *****work, but the god would like make him grim reaper of the sorts, or like the right hand of god....dispensing "justice" or whatever to whoever deserves so....

i like the idea, im planning a campaign, maybe ill use it and then bring back a dead character as a BBEG....hmmm....

Hell, of course. Where all non-believers go. Asmodeus devours them, growing fat on their defiance.

Outlands if your using the default cosmology - you go to the plane of your alignment when you die barring some other factor. Gods usually take you to another plane not matching your alignment if you believe them, but unless you use Guide to Hell you're not heading to Asmo.

In FR unbelievers are screwed, even if they were living angels while vilest humans preying on children can be rewarded by their gods. That's because Ao is interested in preserving the Balance, not morality.

Well, considering that this is D&D, I would suggest that he goes to the Plane of Willful Ignorance.

While I fully appreciate the humor in the post, I believe atheism in DnD takes the path of refusing to give gods worship, rather than thinking they don't exist. After all, mere magic can accomplish what most gods are capable of displaying on the Mortal Coil.

And that's why they go to Hell. Because not believing in gods is wrong. Just like worshiping the wrong god is wrong. Everyone who doesn't worship St. Cuthbert pretty much ends up in Hell.

Why do I feel a CoC violation coming on in this thread? I'll bet two cookies on it...

You worship St. Cuthbert, don't you Sciborg3? You look like a smart guy...a guy who knows what's best for him. What's best for his family. It'd be a shame if something was to happen to them and their afterlife was jeopardized cause someone wanted to be an 'individual'. Wanted to be doing his own thing. Didn't want to be looking out for them when they need it.

As the Juicemaster once said, you have two choices. Cuthbert, or Hell. (Well, he said drinking juice or death and premature aging, but you get my point.) It's up to you....

Clearly you've never experienced Kain Darkwind-sarcasm. And he's just getting started.

Kain, stop attacking your customers. This is a thread about cutting humans from Fourth Edition, not some munchkin powergamer grognard god.

Where do the spirits of animals go when they die?

If it depends on your alignment, then you go to a neutral plane. A place where nobody takes any sides. It shouldn't be the worst of places. Nor the best of places. Pretty much in the middle.

Huh. Maybe you should just go back to the prime material?

To Hell if they don't worship St. Cuthbert. Hard working animals like donkeys, oxen and dogs....they go to Arcadia. But cowardly and destructive animals....to the Hells with them.

Just remember when stuff is getting sorted for Hell, if it's pretty and/or tasty, it gets pushed my way.

Apparently all loyal animal companions go to the Beastlands (Chaotic Good-Good), even though the animals *themselves* were of True Neutral alignment, and, apparently, even if the people they were loyal to were the most Lawful Evil of Lawful Evil jerks.

Yeah, whatever. Don't ask too many questions.

All right I admit it - I've been hording all the animal souls and binding them into my stuffed animals. It was either that or out-grow my tea parties.
