This is mentioned in Jason and the Argonauts. There's also Tam Kung (Chinese) if you want the asian flavour, or Kompira (Japanese) the tortoise. Both given offerings before sea voyages. To a lesser degree thee is also the phoenician goddess Tanit, who was protective of seafarers. And, the Egyptian goddess Isis was also considered a patron of sailors and seafarers. |
| DebiHuman12-10-07, 11:16 AM | Xerbo from the Greyhawk setting might be appropriate. Debby |
| Kiioro12-10-07, 11:37 AM | You could also venerate the gods that have nature in their portfolio (Obad-hai, Ehlonna, Chauntea, Mielikki), or two god(dess)/s(es) of different alignments, for example, Tymora/Umberlee or Blibdoolpoolp (sp???)... that would end up in your alignment. You fear the evil goddess and ask her not to f*** you over, and good luck to the other. |
| HernetheHunter12-10-07, 11:49 AM | DAGON!!!!! Dagon, if you google him, has a rich history and only a small part as a fish god. Due to the use of the name in various stories by Lovecraft and others Dagon has come to be associated with the sea and unspeakable horrors. Most recently Dagon has been incarnated as an ancient Obyrith in Fiendish Codex I and in Dragon Magazine #349. Dragon had a lot of useful info about him. |
| vegetalss412-10-07, 12:02 PM | wait a minute A CN Monk:confused: pretty sure they had to be lawfull |
| Thanael12-10-07, 12:15 PM | Xerbo and Osprem are Greyhawk's main sea gods. Also Procan. |
| The Ubbergeek12-10-07, 03:00 PM | wait a minute A CN Monk:confused: pretty sure they had to be lawfull 'Monk' in the sociological sense of a cloistered cleric, i guess. |
| Kiioro12-10-07, 05:40 PM | Or it may be a chaos monk, those who roll d4s to know how many punches in their flurry of blows they get. Dagon is a great example of a demon lord, which reminds me. Are there any aboleth gods? Could be helpful |

Are there any aboleth gods? Could be helpful The Aboleth don't have gods per se, as they were apparently around before the gods. Although they do aparently venerate the "elder evils" , specifically the Blood Queen (Piscaethes), who apparently created them. This is from Lords of Madness (page 26). |
| Chosen_of_Shandakul12-17-07, 04:00 PM | Thanks for all the replies, and im sorry i didn't respond sooner. I will look into all the responses and my alignment was a typo it should be LN. |
| Gray Richardson12-20-07, 08:36 PM | You can find a list (not sure if it is complete but it is large) of sea deities in the Stormwrack book, in the section under clerics. It includes alignments, domains, holy symbols and brief descriptions. Istishia is a neutral god of water and has a lot of domains. I think he might be a good match for you. |
| Joni-san12-27-07, 11:02 PM | Lets see: Poseidon of the Greek pantheon Ahti of the Finnish pantheon Enki (Sumerian) Nodens (Celtic) Njödr And many many more. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sea_and_river_gods) |
| fighter_mcwarrior12-30-07, 09:23 PM | Why worship Dagon when you can worship Cthulhu? |
| vegetalss412-31-07, 06:25 PM | Why worship Dagon when you can worship Cthulhu? because Dagon dont eat your soul THAT'S WHY:P |
| fighter_mcwarrior12-31-07, 09:34 PM | because Dagon dont eat your soul THAT'S WHY:P Yeah, and Dagon gives you free gold in exchange for human sacrifices. |
| E'tii'stil Shadowsil01-04-08, 10:10 PM | wait a minute A CN Monk:confused: pretty sure they had to be lawfull He could an ex-monk, ie retains his abilities but can't advance in levels. There are nature deities whose portfolios touch upon the sea, or there are specific gods associated with the sea. From FR, we have - Valkur (Valkur is dedicated to sea travel, sailors, navel combat, ships and favorable winds), Umberlee, Silvanus. From Greyhawk, we have the following - Xerbo, Geshtai, Hurakan, Osprem (Osprem is the Suel goddess of sea voyages, ships and sailors), Procan. From Dragonlance, we have - Chislev, and Zeboim. From our own world mythologies, we have the following: Poisedon, Neptune, Oceanus, Tethys, Njörðr (Njord; god of seamanship and sailing), Enki, Phorcys, Triton, Rán, Anapos, Proteus, nereids and naraids and nymphs, Varuna, Manannán mac Lir, Dylan Eil Ton, Manawydan, Llŷr, Nix, etc. And then there are racial gods: Anguileusis, Blibdoolpoolp, Deep Sashelas, Eadro, Panzuriel, Piscaethces, Sekolah, Surminare, Trishina. There's an elemental god of water and the ocean, namely Istishia. And then there's extraplanar beings associated with the ocean - Demogorgon, Panzuriel, Leviathan, Dagon, etc. You can find out about all that I've mentioned on Wiki, from there you can find the relevant reading material (novels, books, D&D supplements, etc). |
