| AAB06-08-07, 02:59 AM | everyone who thinks that Wee Jas is the greatest should add their two cents to this thread. Wee Jas has seemed to get the shaft over the years, and IMO one of the best things that tome of battle did was increase interest in the ruby sorceress. Yay Wee Jas! |
| sciborg206-08-07, 03:24 AM | Weejas What What!? Hell Yeah Boi! |
| ripvanwormer06-08-07, 06:35 PM | (Coughs, ahems, puts on professor hat) The proper term for followers of Wee Jas is Jasidan. Rip grins, takes off professor hat, casts fireball on it. |
| Kihon06-08-07, 07:17 PM | Wee Jas is my girl! She rocks. |
| turalisj06-08-07, 07:37 PM | Wee Jas realy doesn't seem that interesting.... Ok, so she has a PrC for her followers. Last I checked, so did Pelor, Hieronous, and Oliddarrama. Ok, so she's a goddess of magic. So are Chronespsis, Boccob, and most racial gods have some control over magic. Plus, Chronepsis is a dragon (can't beat that) |
| ripvanwormer06-08-07, 07:42 PM | Chronepsis is the draconic god of death. Magic isn't part of his portfolio. |
| turalisj06-08-07, 07:48 PM | *checks through Dracominocon* Ah, my mistake. That would be IO. Still a dragon, still cooler than Wee Jas (INHO) :P |
| AAB06-09-07, 12:08 AM | (Coughs, ahems, puts on professor hat) The proper term for followers of Wee Jas is Jasidan. Rip grins, takes off professor hat, casts fireball on it. lies and vicious slander meant to mislead the faithful! burn the infidel! |
| turalisj06-09-07, 12:17 AM | Burn the heathens worshipping a non-dragon! Dragons are the only beings worth worship! |
| AAB06-09-07, 02:10 AM | worship a big flaming lizard?? that seems so... well, it seems so barbaric and unlawful. it just isn't right, dammit! |
| turalisj06-09-07, 02:38 AM | Flaming lizard? You're worshipping a goddess who treats her clerics like students in a boarding school. Although, I guess if you are into such a thing.... :P |
| AAB06-09-07, 02:56 AM | definitely. i'm gonna say that again, just to show you how much i mean it: definitely. |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-09-07, 04:23 AM | Flaming lizards? I thought the only one who fit that description was that one monstrosity sleeping in the harbor. Dragons have wings. Lizards do not. On a more serious note, only Red, Gold, Brass Dragons have fire as their breath weapon. Wee Jas isn't just about death and magic. Vanity is a part of her portfolio too. She's also the patroness of legal marriages...and eloping! |
| AAB06-09-07, 04:41 AM | hottest lawful neutral goddess of death and magic anywhere.... :P (would i be smote for that, or would she take it as a complement?) |
| Frumpkis06-09-07, 04:54 AM | hottest lawful neutral goddess of death and magic anywhere.... :P (would i be smote for that, or would she take it as a complement?) Well, considering she has vanity in her portfolio, I'd imagine church services to Wee Jas would involve lots of flattery and brown-nosing. |
| Doom_Linnorm06-09-07, 10:39 AM | Burn the heathens worshipping a non-dragon! Dragons are the only beings worth worship! And that is one of the absolute truths. Another of those truths is that Yugoloths deserve a Codex of their own rather then bringing out more Drow content, like we need more darkelves in here... |
| kreesteeyan06-09-07, 11:09 AM | And that is one of the absolute truths. Another of those truths is that Yugoloths deserve a Codex of their own rather then bringing out more Drow content, like we need more darkelves in here... Amen Brother! |
| TimelordSimone06-09-07, 01:04 PM | Wee Jas is awesome. You know what else would be awesome? Paladins of Wee Jas. Now there is no way any lame dragon thing can beat that! |
| turalisj06-09-07, 01:21 PM | A paladin of Wee Jas? Oh, you mean those crunchy skeletons in blood red armor sitting outside my lair. :P Another of those truths is that Yugoloths deserve a Codex of their own rather then bringing out more Drow content, like we need more darkelves in here... Aw... but drow are so tasty, and thier poison tastes like BBQ sauce. Have you ever tried to have one with a couple hundred thousand volts run through it? :D Wee Jas is awesome. You know what else would be awesome? Paladins of Wee Jas. Now there is no way any lame dragon thing can beat that! Except dragons have dragonfire adepts, a whole book of PrC's, dragon shamans, clerics of each of the dragon gods, psions, rogues, should I go on? |
| TimelordSimone06-09-07, 05:05 PM | Except dragons have dragonfire adepts, a whole book of PrC's, dragon shamans, clerics of each of the dragon gods, psions, rogues, should I go on? Nope. See, I don't think 'coolness' is measured by 'number of PrCs' or whatever. Face it, Wee Jas is coolness personified. (Well... deified...) |
| turalisj06-09-07, 05:12 PM | But dragons have a much more detailed real world history than a made up god for a table top game. Romans, greeks, egyptians, chinese, japanese and babylonians all had dragons in thier mythology. I don't seem to see Wee Jas being anywhere in there. and dragons are a whole pantheon. Wee Jas is one simple goddess of vanity, magic, and death. Why would I want to worship something so self-glorifying as vanity, something as boring as magic (every dragon can cast spells anyways), or something as grotesque as death? Instead, you get a draconic god of every flavor. :P |
| vampymage06-09-07, 07:06 PM | Allow me to show you where Dragons are on the Awesomeness scale verses Wee Jas Wee Jas here - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Dragons here :P |
| turalisj06-09-07, 07:17 PM | I think you have it reversed. There are far more dragon fans than Wee Jas fans. Don't make me get Tiamat on your Ruby-worshipping butt. :P -Dragons here - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Wee Jas here |
| TimelordSimone06-09-07, 07:19 PM | But dragons have a much more detailed real world history than a made up god for a table top game. So does cheese. Doesn't make it cool. Romans, greeks, egyptians, chinese, japanese and babylonians all had dragons in thier mythology. I don't seem to see Wee Jas being anywhere in there. True. But again, just because something is prevelant doesn't make it cool. I mean, apples feature in more mythology than Wee Jas. Does that makes apples cool? and dragons are a whole pantheon. Wee Jas is one simple goddess of vanity, magic, and death. Why would I want to worship something so self-glorifying as vanity, something as boring as magic (every dragon can cast spells anyways), or something as grotesque as death? Instead, you get a draconic god of every flavor. :P What if I don't want a whole pantheon? What if I want a creepy loner Goddess? |
| turalisj06-09-07, 07:24 PM | Do we realy want to start this into an X is better than Y contest? |
| AAB06-09-07, 07:24 PM | Wee Jas also outranks Tiamat 15 to 10, even after Wizards pulled her down from greater goddess status after first edition. they keep trying to bring her down, but you just can't get as low as that smelly reptile. |
| TimelordSimone06-09-07, 07:31 PM | Do we realy want to start this into an X is better than Y contest? Not really. We just wanted to talk about how cool Wee Jas is. You people with your talk of dragons turned it into an X is better than Y contest. Wee Jas is awesome. |
| turalisj06-09-07, 07:32 PM | That only because she's more well known. Of course, the dragon gods outnumber Wee Jas 10 to 1. Oh, and theres the whole 'dragon's are more powerfull than humanoinds' thing. |
| TimelordSimone06-09-07, 07:38 PM | Do we realy want to start this into an X is better than Y contest? That only because she's more well known. Of course, the dragon gods outnumber Wee Jas 10 to 1. Oh, and theres the whole 'dragon's are more powerfull than humanoinds' thing. Apparently we do... |
| sciborg206-09-07, 10:21 PM | Walks in with his dragon skin boots and Wee Jas sleeveless T. Yeah, I will do a chariot-by on yo cave...us Jasites stay strapped foo... |
| turalisj06-09-07, 10:35 PM | So... you are going to drive a chariot past my cave and try and fire a crowwbow into it? Good luck, you know, with trying to get my past guards and everything. Oh, and then there's my small army of half a million aquatic elvs...... Jasites= Gangster Wannabes. Dragons= Millionaires with a full array of WMD's. |
| sciborg206-09-07, 10:42 PM | heh, u remind me of that sheik rapper on mind o' mencia: "you say your necklace is like a midget...well my necklace really is a midget!" |
| turalisj06-09-07, 10:45 PM | My point is proven. Jasites are the result of Americas 'No Child Left Behind' program. |
| AAB06-09-07, 11:18 PM | why don't ya go milk a cow, 'sconsinite? |
| turalisj06-09-07, 11:20 PM | I happen to live in one of the urban areas of WI. I'd much rahter go have a couple to drink :P Why don't you make a sad attempt at poetry? |
| AAB06-09-07, 11:46 PM | are you talking about my name? if not, then i don't know where that came from. |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-10-07, 12:19 AM | What does this have to do with the discussion at hand? Yes, very little is known about Wee Jas (or any other member of the D&D pantheon for that matter), but now we have the Core Beliefs articles to fill in the blanks (gods know it worked wonders for my understanding of Heironeous). Furthermore, dragons are powerful. Period. Anyone who has ever doubted this is currently deceased. Why does this need to dissolve into a morass of one-upmanship (or one-updragonship) about who's cooler? |
| AAB06-10-07, 12:36 AM | Core Beliefs articles?? sorry, never heard of them, and now i'm interested. |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-10-07, 02:01 AM | There were only a few, printed in various issues of Dragon. They provide a detailed outline of that deity's teachings, including holy texts, how a cleric (and paladin when applicable) should behave and relics of the faith. I've only seen the one about Heironeous but I know that other deities featured included Boccob, Wee Jas and Pelor. In my opinion, they are essential if you're going to be featuring that god's faithful prominently. Too bad Dragon won't be continuing. I learned so much from just one article (did you know that Heironeous's true favored weapon is the battleaxe?). |
| sciborg206-10-07, 02:05 AM | Jasites are the result of Americas 'No Child Left Behind' program. Great, a dragon-arse-kisser that thinks its funny. And yes, you heard it here first, dragon worshippers will leave your children BEHIND  As a human goddess, you can count on Wee Jas to offer you protection against the Other, unto and beyond death. As they say in StormWatch PHD - "You know the kind of world we live in. Aliens and monsters...running around like they own the damn place. Let's show 'em humanity's not dead yet." |
| TimelordSimone06-10-07, 08:24 AM | Wee Jas is cool. Without her, there would be no core deity to grant comfort to the bereaved in their time of grief. I like her whole "death comes to us all, but you'll always be remembered for what you accomplished" thing. It's cool. (and, IMO, way cooler than "I'm a dragon and will eat your children") |
| Doom_Linnorm06-10-07, 12:25 PM | The point is. Yes Dragons are cooler then Wee Jas, but she also already kicks a lot of arse. Dragon and Wee Jas worshippers shouldn't fight each other about coolness of their deities, we should unite against the lame deities and their worshipers like Pelor. The real coolness scale: Some of the top positions: (Not in order except for Tiamat) Tiamat Other Dragon Gods Wee Jas Vecna Kurtulemak - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bottom positions. (In order) Garl Glitter Gold Pelor Correlon (a.k.a. captain pansy of the pansy people of pansyness.) |
| TimelordSimone06-10-07, 01:48 PM | See, I honestly don't think dragons are that cool... I'm totally gonna get killed for this... It's just... they lack subtlety. Huge hulking powerhouse doesn't do it for me. I personally don't think that's cool. (Also, I think Heironeous deserves a place at the bottom.) |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-10-07, 04:05 PM | I OBJECT! I find Heironeous to be one of the best deities out there. But then again, that just might be my bias towards the Invincible and his paladin followers. His followers are always ready when danger threatens due to the martial training that all clergy recieve. Plus, he's a deity whose word can be trusted, as can the words of his disciples. MAY THE AXE GROW GREAT!:fight!: |
| Doom_Linnorm06-11-07, 03:10 AM | It's just... they lack subtlety. *Bursts out laughing.* You obviously don't know DnD dragons that well then, or you/your DM runs them wrongly. Bit of trivia for you: What is a Dragon's greatest weapon? Also I agree on Heironous being lame, he's just another dude in shiny armor IMO his brother is much cooler. |
| AAB06-11-07, 03:19 AM | okay, a correction, then: Tiamat lacks subtlety. she likes burning/freezing/melting things too much. |
| turalisj06-11-07, 05:58 AM | Tiamat sucks. Lendys rocks. Add another dragon, Doom. |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-11-07, 08:57 AM | Also I agree on Heironous being lame, he's just another dude in shiny armor IMO his brother is much cooler. How exactly do you think Hextor is cooler? If it's in terms of aesthetics, I'd say that's no way to base an opinion of someone, especially a deity. Is it in terms of dogma? I don't think many people would appreciate being enslaved to Hextor's clergy. Hextor's teachings do not respect the rights of the people, and he preaches that might makes right. This is simply not true. As another saying of Heironeous goes "Right makes might". And I agree that Tiamat sucks. I mean, she's basically consumed by greed. It's the only thing that motivates her, not a sense of responsibility or duty to the beings she governs. Indeed, many dragons who worship her don't place her shrine or whatever near their hoard, lest Tiamat see it and covet it for her own. |
| Doom_Linnorm06-11-07, 01:46 PM | Heironous is just another Paladin with a few DvRs slapped on. Tiamat isn't some random dragon with DvRs and the fact that she is driven by greed is exactly why she's cool in my book. She's not standard, she's different, stands out and destroys anything if it so much as annoys her. She is completely and utterly unique in every way, five heads of pure coolness. As for Hextor he went out and created a whole new identity for himself, apearing as a unique creature that truly deviates from anything else. I often confuse Cuthbert with Heironous for example, they are both quite boring but IMO Cuthbert is cooler then Heironous, though my opinion of Cuthbert is still not very high either. Heironous is just too boring IMO. But **** that, we're talking about Wee Jas here. Who is also not a random stereotype with DvR's cus: 1) She's a female deity of death. 2) A death deity with crimson as her associated color, not black, rotting green or midnight blue. 3) She's a death deity that doesn't look like a corpse. 4) She's a non-evil death deity. 5) She's a death deity that cares about beauty. And that is just the tip of the damned ice-berg, she's pretty damned awesome. (But not as awsome as Tiamat.) And yes, Lendys is pretty cool, mind you he's at the bottom of my dragon deity cool scale. He's got some pretty unorthodox vibrant assests to him, but I'd say most of his peers outmatch him like Chronepsis. Lendys's main "Cool asset" for me being that he is a dragon yet selfless, according to his entry in The Draconomicon it even said his scales are tarnished silver becouse he doesn't care enough to get a solid golden gem encrusted spanking brand new one. (even though he obviously could (he's a dragon afterall)) |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-11-07, 07:24 PM | I can't argue with your description of Wee Jas. She's also (as I've said before) the patron of both legal marriage and eloping, so in a way, she's kind of a love goddess too, which honestly doesn't surprise me, given her great beauty. Hextor did create a new identity for himself, but twisted his form into something really nasty looking (the six arms are a nice touch, but he looks too much like an orc with those tusks). He also gave up any shred of honor he had when he did so. Heironeous knows that one day he will have to put his brother to the sword, though he still cares for him, if ever so slightly. He's merely aware that some evil beings cannot be redeemed. And as for comparisons between him and Saint Cuthbert, there is a difference. Cuthberites exemplify justice. The unforgiving, unbending kind. Even a paladin can bend the rules (within reason) when the greater good is at stake. Cuthbert fights evil only because it's more likely to break the law. He'll fight good too if it does the same. As for your statements about the draconic deities, I'm sure that they are all very cool, except for Tiamat, the covetous vain monstrosity. She exemplifies everything I hate about dragons. Frankly my opinion is that Bahamut is the coolest. What's not to like about nigh-invulnerable platinum scales and a disintegrating breath weapon? Yes, I like paladins and shiny happy dragons. Live with it. |
| Doom_Linnorm06-12-07, 03:07 AM | Which is exactly everything I hate, I think Silver Dragons are awsome, but by draconic standards the lamest becouse of their whole, pious paladin thing, and of course their close to disgusting fixation with humans. But that is my opinion, I hate paladins (unless they are one of the other three from UA, I'm fond of the Paladin of Freedom idea.) In fact I have a strong aversion for anything LG or LN, I don't mind LE so much. As far as alignment goes, my fav alignment is CN. Another thing is dislike is giving "Always [Alignment]" to creatures, which is why in my setting there is a decent chance you might find a Red Dragon saving a town rather then destroying it. (It quite simply removes the color coded mentality that PCs have about dragons, forcing them to look at its behavior rather then whether its metallic or chromatic.) But we're derailing here. What we both agree on (and lets focus on that (so you don't see my agents burning down Heironous's churches:P )) is that Wee Jas is cool, which is what the thread is about. (I'm aware she's LN, but hey, there are exceptions to everything.) |
| turalisj06-12-07, 10:53 AM | What's wrong with LN? You can basicly do anything, so long as you can justify it with your personal code. That's how I got several DM's to let me go on a killing spree and slaughter dozens of innocents :P I don't happen to own a copy of dieties and demigods, so I can't realy say anything on what a particular diety looks like. |
| AAB06-12-07, 05:49 PM | with a lawful neutral alignment you can be a harsh, uncompromising foe of chaos. it's easy to take out a bunch of insurgents (or whatever you wanna call people who spread chaos, i couldn't think of a better word right now) and justify it as being for the greater good of humanity. i really like lawful neutral |
| TimelordSimone06-12-07, 05:56 PM | I've only had one Lawful Neutral character. She was pretty much a cow to everyone she met. There were two ways of doing things: her way, and the wrong way. Somehow she ended up as a sort of party leader... She also happened to be a devout worshipper of Wee Jas... |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-12-07, 07:02 PM | Simply look at the art gallery for Deities and Demigods if you want to see the pictures. I confess I'm incorrigably Lawful Good. I simply don't like the potential for Chaotic Neutral to be used as an excuse for behaving in bizzare or stupid ways, or as a Chaotic Evil substitute. I don't like people hiding behind the chaotic alignment as a justification for blatantly evil acts. People who play the Chaotic alignment as an "I can run around killing everyone...without pants on!" card. Plus, I like things to be orderly and structured, but that's more from the Asperger's than anything else. Interestingly enough, in the Greyhawk setting, Wee Jas's lover is the Chaotic Neutral deity Norebo. |
| AAB06-12-07, 07:26 PM | see, there's so many interesting dichotomies with Wee Jas! it's fun AND educational! |
| turalisj06-13-07, 12:09 AM | Thats what the church said about the inquisition :P With LN, you can justicy starting barfights. "But it's in my character's code to prove who is the strongest where ever he is!" No that they need to be justified. |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-13-07, 12:48 AM | Are you addressing me? No offense, I'm just not sure whom that comment was directed at. |
| turalisj06-13-07, 01:00 AM | It was directed at AAB. My implication was that the church thought torturing 'heathens' was fun for their inquistives, and educational for their victims. |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-13-07, 01:08 AM | Oh. :embarrass Sorry to bother you. |
| AAB06-13-07, 01:26 AM | see, and wee jas's church would HAVE inquisitions. worshipers of tiamat are too lazy/busy plotting world domination/having plots foiled by adventurers. hmmm... wee jas inquisition... i just got a new adventure idea.... |
| Chimaera200006-13-07, 04:32 PM | Before Dragon #350, I'd had no interest in Wee Jas. After reading through that article, though, my attention was piqued. Seeing that attention-commanding redhead in Deities and Demigods furthered that even more. Once Tome of Battle came out, fuggedaboutit. Any deity that lays claim to the Ruby Knight Vindicators is a deity that I will gladly pledge my allegiance to. |
| turalisj06-13-07, 05:18 PM | You see, the RKV isn't that great. I prefer a straight up warblade focusing in Diamond Mind. |
| AAB06-13-07, 05:45 PM | You see, the RKV isn't that great. I prefer a straight up warblade focusing in Diamond Mind. ssshhh. don't say that. he'll hurt you. |
| turalisj06-13-07, 06:25 PM | Who? Besides, I have DR 100/ewok :P |
| AAB06-13-07, 06:46 PM | well then i guess you get the humiliating death of being beaten senseless with an ewok. |
| turalisj06-13-07, 06:49 PM | What so humiliating about it? Ewoks are cool. Or should I bring out my ewok jedi? |
| Zousha_Omenohu06-13-07, 07:21 PM | All right, that's enough! We're talking about a drop-dead (literally) gorgeous babe of a goddess! Not cute, little fuzzballs that are illegal to use as swimsuits!:tantrum: |
| AAB06-13-07, 09:20 PM | What so humiliating about it? Ewoks are cool. Or should I bring out my ewok jedi? no, not beaten BY an ewok. beaten WITH an ewok. like a pillow. but deadly. all in the name of Wee Jas. |
| turalisj06-14-07, 12:49 AM | Hey AAB, there are some people from PETE for you. |
