What kind of effects, immediate visual, planor, effects do you think you would happen if you slew a demon lord on its home plane? Such as Malcanthet?
Looking for ideas to flesh out the after effects.

Their form might erupt into a shower of energy, littering the plane with newly created lesser tanar'ri/obyrith/loumara as it might apply. Those formed might include every petitioner the abyssal lord in question had ever absorbed or devoured over the eons.

The plane itself might reach up and physically devour the essence of the abyssal lord that had once impressed its will over that given layer of the Abyss.

The layer itself might begin to evaporate, unable to exist in its present form without the anchoring will of its former master. At some level, Abyssal Lord and Abyssal Layer are the same thing, and the death of the lord might initiate the collapse of the layer itself.

Every fiend within 10k miles might fall prone with agonizing pain and/or ecstasy, as they each experience a broken piece of the abyssal lord's last moment's and the Abyss's pleasure as it reabsorbs their unwilling essence back into itself.

The death of a major abyssal lord might rip a role in the plane itself, sending a chunk of a layer spiralling off through the Abyss to either spawn a new distinct layer of its own, or onto another adjacent plane such as Carceri or Pandemonium.

The realm would probably revert back to the status it had before it was shaped by the will of it's lord. Depending on how much shaping had been done, the effect might range from minor to extreme. :D

I agree. Most of what Shemeska wrote would fall in the "minor" category. For the "extreme", the DM will either have to be incredibly talented or under the influence of prohibited substances.
