| Radijs08-03-07, 02:34 PM | I've been building a new homebrew world and I need some good gods for it. I was planning of holding on mostly to the gods in the PHB since I am playing with a group of newbie players, if you can forgive me the term. In short, the world is a group of floating islands all hovering in circles around the main island where the emperor rules over all. I was thinking of adding a bit of mysticism by making the people believe that the emperor is an avatar of a god, not entirely unlike the pharao's in ancient Egypt or the emperors in the far east. There's no actual sun on the world but a celestial light that is extinguished during the night. So I'm looking for a god that can be represented by a lot of (sun)light and that can be seen as a personification of an empire itself. Anyone know a good one? |
| Rerecros08-03-07, 03:14 PM | Ra? |
| DwarfPcfan08-03-07, 04:08 PM | Ra? I second this, Ra god of Phareos (I know that's not how its spelled), the Eternal Sun and king of the God's of the old kingdom. He figures into rulership, Law etc. As well the idea that he goes every night into the underworld to battle a demonic God slaying serpent so the world may have light for one more day is really cool. It might represent the struggle of good in the empire versus corruption. Nice concept As a new kingdom I'd suggest Re-Horakti (again I know). Deities and Demi-gods is quite clear that he is the radiant, all mighty god of kings, the sun and law. the screams emperor. They even state that he sometimes uses his possesses mortal ability on worthy kings to help rule their kingdoms. Now, if you're ready to deviate from egypt here are a few other ideas: Shangti, the Celestial Emperor. King of the Chinese Gods Quezacoualt: Aztec god of the Sun, good and kings Ahruda Mazda: Greatest good god of the Persian patheon opposed in dualism to Arhiman, eternal god of evil But yeah, definetly Ra all the way... |
| setekh08-03-07, 06:50 PM | If your Emperor isn't the best thing since sliced bread I'd suggest Horus or Set (Both Egyptian) Inspite deities.. view, Setekh was a Deity highly valued by his peers, but also really rather flawed, having killed his brother for stealing the one women (Indeed, person whatsoever) Who he trusted. Technically he never claimed the throne though. Horus was again, another flawed ruler, far too young to rule effectively, he had to fall back on his mothers guidance, he was also a bit of a tool, and took every opportunity to mock his Uncle, Setekh. |
| Radijs08-04-07, 02:22 PM | Thanks guys/girls. But I was hoping to keep the original pantheon as much as possible. The one in the PhB. Because the players I'll be DM-ing for are newbies and I don't want to add more complexity then I have to to make my world work. |
| MCage08-04-07, 02:43 PM | Well real world religions may actualy make it easyer for your players to deal with, unless they arnt familiar with Egypt or the Show/movie Stargate at all, then id say Pelor. Good guy God, All about the sun. Might be the best option for Core DnD |
| castlemike08-06-07, 11:32 PM | Based on your criteria of sticking to core. I'd go with Pelor The Shinin One a Sun God for a God of Light. See page 108 of the PHB. Ehlonna is also listed a core sun goddess in Dieties and Demigods. |
