I think the spell will still work the same, only problem I could see might be for the summoned creature, cause when reduced to 1 hp they usually poof back to their home plane of existence. Well if they are already there, they can't poof anywhere from my way of understanding it. So they'd just end up slaughtered... |

Now if you are on another plane different from your starting material plane you can still summon creatures but not native to the plane you are now. That is what i ended up to after reading the spell's description. But i also have a minor question that troubles me the last few days about summoning spells. What happens if the palne i am to right now has no connection with let's say the elemental planes. Can i still summon elementals? In general should the plane i am to right now have a connection or either coexist with another plane to summon monsters from that plane? And what happens if i am in a prison plane with no connections to other planes. I guess i won't be able to cast summon with any success. |

You can't do it normally, but the laws of magic on each plane allow for spell keys, which are objects, gestures, thoughts, or symbols that modify spells enough that they can be cast in places where they normally can't be. With the proper keys, you can summon pseudo-elementals in the outer planes, which seem to be elementals but are actually made of the substance of the plane you're on rather than the substance of the Inner Planes. The main difference is that their alignment is the same as the outer plane from which they come. And what happens if i am in a prison plane with no connections to other planes. I guess i won't be able to cast summon with any success. That's right. You need a connection to the Astral Plane to summon anything. |
