Correspond
Telepathy [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Psion/wilder 4
Display: Mental
Manifesting Time: 10 minutes
Range: See text
Target: One creature with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: None
Power Resistance: No
Power Points: 7

You forge a passive mental link with a creature with which you have previously had physical or mental contact. The subject need not be within sight or even on the same plane as you are. The subject recognizes you, and you can mentally communicate with it for the duration (though nothing forces the subject to respond to you), exchanging messages of twenty-five words or less once per round. Receiving a message is not an action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity; however, sending a message is equivalent to a standard action that can provoke attacks of opportunity.

So, I started one of my "what if" train of thoughts, and I started to wonder what would happen if you manifested this power to contact your deity. What would happen? Would your god pick up?

What if a follower of a deity decided to prank call his deity's rival to annoy him/her/it? Let's say a follower of Corellon decided to prank call Lolth to bother/distract her, or a follower of Bahamut tried to fill up Tiamat's answering machine(s).

Well, when I get prank calls like that, I have a tendancey to enact foolish revenge, like forwarding the number to every freak I know.

So I have mental images of Tiamat sending Mr Psion's number to that freak Pazuzu down in the Abyss.

This is why they have angels. Most of them are secretaries who screen all their calls/summons/prayers/etc.

Oh, so when my characters are frantically praying for help they are actually getting rerouted to somewhere in India?

Or wherever the businesses send jobs as per the global economy. I suspect deities use aasimon since those guys get things done while archons, guardinals, and eladrins whine pointlessly about philosophy. Or maybe political "science".

Well, if you were wondering, His telephone number is 42. You'd need to find out the area code though. . .

No, that's not the right one. I think it's 777.

This monkey's gone to heaven.
