The Goddess Lolth? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-22-07, 09:46 PM I know she's been God status for a while now... but I don't actually know how or why she got there. One day someone told me "Bam" the Drow Emo Poster Girl is now a mid level Goddess.

How did Lolth ascend? I think I preferred her as a Demon Lord, Godess status never did sit right in my mind.

09-22-07, 10:14 PM She always was a goddess. She started out as an elven goddess of wisdom (I believe) named Araushnee. After she betrayed/attacked Corellon, she was kicked out. I presumed she went to the Abyss and over time gained her new form.

Though I could be wrong...

09-22-07, 10:47 PM In-game, she began as a CN deity, Araushnee, among the Seldarine. After eventually shifting to evil, and attempting to arrange for the murder of Corellon Larethian (she was his consort), she was stripped of virtually all of her divinity and exiled into the Abyss by the other Seldarine. Though she managed to carve out a claimed layer of the Abyss as her own (layer 66), she was never actually a true Abyssal Lord (in the same sense as an actual fiend). In time she managed to accrue enough mortal worshippers to claw her way back to the levels of divinity she'd had before Corellon stripped it from her.

Some worshippers, or elves, or other mortals might occasionally refer to her as a demon lord, but she hasn't ever actually been one (not as far as the Abyss is concerned).

At least, that was the general gist of her writeup I did in Dragon.

09-23-07, 12:26 AM It doesn't matter that much for ingame purposes; gods and archfiends are supposed to be around the same power level. Really, distinguishing between an abyssal god and a demonlord is like seperating the black zebras with white stripes from the white zebras with black stripes. She's superpowerful, she lives in the Abyss, she's mean, and she grants spells to drow clerics. Why does it matter whether she is literally a godess or not?
